From Lying in the Gutters:

"As part of the big Ultimate Universe revamp, I hear "Ultimate X-Men" is for the chop. And Ed McGuinness' one drawn issue of "Ultimates 4" may not even see publication... "

Ok, so what does "for the chop" mean anyway? And I wonder why that issue of Ultimates 4 won't see print. *Waits for "cuz his art sucks" posts*

"For the chop"? Huh?

Why would they axe that book (assuming that's what it means)?

Aside from that someone disturbing tidbit, I'm anxious to see what this means. I've said for a while now that I'd like to see the UU more streamlined and event-oriented. I used the Mythos "line" as an example....you don't necessarily need one writer and one artist, but I'd like to see a focus to the whole line. This has turned into 3 books each in revolving 6-issue arcs creating new versions of characters and it's just boring. And 2/3 of it is poorly done anyway.

If they could make the entire line more like what Ultimates was I'd be happy. I hope that's what it is. Vertigo-ize it.

"For the chop" means "Is on the chopping block". Meaning. . .it's getting canceled.

Why the hell would they cancel UXM of all things? That's the best UU title at the moment! This has to be a false rumor. It'd be a lot more believable is they said UFF was getting canceled, but even then. . .

Yeah, it's obvious he means it'll be cancelled.

And I assume the McGuiness issue won't see print because they'll get another arist and want him to do the whole series.

I haven't seen sales numbers...but I have to imagine UFF sells less than UXM.

I don't get it.

From the June sale charts:

Qty Rank - Retail Rank - Index - Title ------------------------- Price - Ven
..
..
..
23 --------- 24 --------- 136.12 - ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #110 - $2.99 - MAR
..
..
..
34 --------- 36 --------- 110.30 - ULTIMATE X-MEN #83 -------- $2.99 - MAR
..
..
..
46 ---------- 48 -------- 95.10 -- ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #43 - $2.99 - MAR
..

I'm not sure this is newsworthy since its a rumor on Lying in the Gutters. I'd wait for official confirmation first. . .

Actually. . .yes, I do see this in the news section. It's on the front page as well.

What the crap?! I didn't put it there.

Sorry, Lynx. I didn't know it was there. I had made the thread in the Ultimate Comics section and didn't see it was moved. Sorry amigo.

Still, it's discussion worthy.

Oddly enough...I have no feelings towards this. UXM was getting good.....and then it just became meh. Not bad meh...but "I can wait until trade" meh.

But then again a lot of the UU titles were getting that way.

And as far as U4 being cancelled....it makes no matter. We barely got some issues done for U3. And judging by the all negative feedback Marvel's been getting from the new look of Ultimates, it makes sense for them to not use McGuiness when his style is so similar to Mad.

To be quite honest---Marvel should get rid of the UU. Just because of the numbers game---keep USM going...but only as a stand alone Spidey series like Unlimted. Instead they should focus more on the MAX line and do more creator-owned indy series like that to counteract DC's amazing Vertigo.

UXM is definitely one of my favorite titles right now. I was really loking forward to whats to come. If it does end without wrapping up all the dangling plot lines...marvel will have a lot of unhappy fans.

Understood. That's why I asked.

But yes, I definitely think its discussion worthy. And by discussion, I mean RAGE.

Well it would be odd if UXM gets cancelled because isn't it part of the Ultimatum event next year? Are they cancelling that too?

I guess I'm the only one on here who isn't appreciating the crap Kirkman is writing for Ultimate X-men. It's convulted, it's insulting to feed us time travel nonsense and bull****, and it's predictable.

Oh, and let's throw Beast back, cause he never died, just was pronouced dead, and everyone was led to believe he was dead.

Crap.

I'll be glad if they cancel it

/ranting

I believe it was said he did die and was revived later on.

Anyways, one of you guys going to WWC can ask at one of the panels.

That would be kind of stupid to end UXM after the Ultimatum thingy. It'll be real close to issue 100 at that point, and who doesn't love hundred issue celebrations?

So yes. Doubt, doubt, doubt is in the air~

Wait , No more UXM , Ultimates 4 not happening so that only leaves UFF and USM right?

Are they ending the Ultimate universe? It makes no sense to get rid of of UXM and Ultimates.

Ultimates 4 is still happening, just with a different artist.

If UXM is cancelled I'd expect it to be ralaunched almost immediately.

Possibly with Singer?

Did you read correctly? An Ultimates 4 issue has been cancelled not the whole thing. :?

And I highly doubt that UXM will get cancelled. It's high up in the sales chart in the Top 40. That's is more than enough to keep it going.

See now that'll never happen. Marvel currently has two different imprints that could be used for that (MAX and Icon) and there's a whole 4 ongoings between them with a few minis here and there. They're just too focused on the Marvel brand to branch out like that.

Wait , No more UXM , Ultimates 4 not happening so that only leaves UFF and USM right?

Now it didn't say U4 wasn't happening, just that McGuiness's competed issue wouldn't be used.

But it does look like they're... wrapping things up.
