This is a thread that should already exist... Anyone who hasn't read this series is ****ing Crazy.

So pick it up and discuss it here.

I said this in general comics thread, I'll say it again
I think volume 2 of Transmet (lust for life) has about 9 issues in it. They're all mostly one shots and just show you the world of the future. This is what drugs are like, this is the mayor, this is what cosmetic surgury has led too. All pretty good social satire. The best volumes are 3 and 4, but it's good all the way to 10. Spider is put in some interesting situations where he'd rather withhold information and not publish it from a personal viewpoint but because he's a journalist and he thinks it's important to give the public the truth. good stuff, I think transmet is my favourite long-comic. And the dialogue is just so funny as well.

Yeah the 3rd and 4th volumes with the election going on is my favourite part of the series, but it all comes together really well at the end as well. There's the cool storyline with the video tape of the cops as well and one where the weather goes a bit mad

As i stated before, the first volume was only three issues, and it was a generic story, but with Ellis flair added to it. It really should have been longer to get you more involved with the story. My interest was piqued, and if I see volumes two and three in the store, I'll pick them up.

Actually, I don't find it to be generic at all...The City almost feels like it was written by Ray Kurzweil and while Ellis has made all of his characters since spider almost clones of him, he's an interesting protagonist.

It was interesting, I'm just saying the story was a generic story, with the flavor of the comic thrown into it. It's your basically exiled hero returning to the place of his birth and saving it,

I've only read up to trade 3 but my god I love this series and plan on picking the whole thing up.

Vol 1 while short, was too funny and great for me to call it generic. It also sets up so many stories that it's a worthy collection. However, it makes so little sense to me to have the first trade collect 3 issues and then the second trade 9 issues.

The only sense I can gleam from it is that volume two has mostly one shots in it and someone wanted all those one shots collected in one volume.

Spider was in no way exiled; He left the city because he hated it and returned against his will. His column is called "I hate it here" for God's sake, and he always seems to be more interesting in judging citizens and telling them exactly what's wrong with the way they live in the loudest way possible than actually making a conscious effort to save them. I think he even says in one of the stories that he just "Tells people what's wrong" and then leaves fixing it to better people.

Warren Ellis even touches on technological and social issues that futurists have been speculating about since Moore's Law was created.

I suppose that the idea is that volume one collects the first story arc (which is 3 issues) and volume two collects all of those one shots in between Spider's coverage of the election. Having the two merged into one volume, or even having several of the volume two issues in the first trade would make sense, but would break up the story, especially for those of us who do not own the issues.

I liked the first two volumes of Transmet.

I'll have to pick up the rest of it after I finish reading Y: The Last Man.

Has anyone read "Volume 0"? It's supposed to be articles written by spider. It seems more elusive than the other volumes but if it's even half as good I'll track it down.

Also what is 'Moore's Law'?

Volume Zero are some of the Prose Works that Ellis wrote that are supposed to be by Spider. Its very Non-Essential.

Transmet ranks very close to, possibly even at, the top of my favorite series of all time. I've even considered getting a tattoo based on it a couple of times. I'll agree that anybody who hasn't read it is crazy.
