Not bad at all, its building up quite nicely! Big shock at the end but I knew it was coming!

Issue opens with Pyro in trouble from Sentinels in Central Park, Beast swings down and rescues him!

Fenris Labs, The weirdo twins fire at Bishop, he has visions of a dead Psylocke and he SPLUKKK's them dead with his power! Storm isn't too pleased with the whole SPLUKKK thing but at that moment Stryfe and Zero beam in!

Zero does a runner leaving Stryfe and Trask behind! Psylocke reads Stryfe's mind and it's revealed he has been working with Fenris stirring up mutant anger so the Sentinels could be redeployed! Stryfe's mutant power is the ability to instigate unrest in people!

Fight ensues but during it Stryfe triggers a failsafe device while the team find themselves in a state of unrest, all except Storm who seems immune to instigated unrest! She hits him with a bolt of lightning but too late!

Lots of Sentinels head towards Central Park! They will start from there and spread outward wiping out all mutants!

Wolverine threatens Trask! Trask says he'll fix it! Angel stays to watch Trask while rest of team take Stryfe into custody then zap to Central Park!

Huge fight ensues! Mutants die, Dazzler uses her power to the max again knocking her out!

Back at Fenris, Trask overloads the generators hoping it will stop the Sentinels and Angel gets out in the nick of time!

Sentinels all stop suddenly one nearly falls on Storm and Beast swings out to rescue her! Everyone is amazed!

Except Bishop who slips quietly to the side and calls Cable to tell him "everything is progressing nicely"!............

An interesting story and I think the artwork is perfect for it!

4.0/5.0

Re: Ultimate X-Men #87(Spoilers)

Yawn.

I don't know what's going on with Kirkman's run. Hist first couple of "filler arcs" were complete bollocks. But then things began to turn around and started to show great promise. By the time the "Cable" arc was over, it seemed as if this book was beginning to become the premiere UU book.

But then all of a sudden things went downhill. Maybe it was around the "Cliffhangers" issue where Kirkman began to introduce several storylines. Maybe he is juggling too many ideas? Maybe he had a story plot shut down by Marvel because it was too drastic? Maybe I was just blinded by my new love of "Invincible"?

Who knows?

All I know is that I am completely bored by this book. The only thing that keeps me coming back is the fact that Kirkman says this is all building to something bigger, and that there are so many departures and changes from it's 616 counterpart that I'm reading it just to see what's different next.

But all that aside, I am still bored.

And the fact that Yanick Paquette draws everyone with fishlips. ****ing fishlips. I'm serious. And he's so hit or miss with his work. One panel will look great.....and then the next panel will look like complete garbage.

Yeah.....yawn.

There's not even a point at me rating this book. That's how little I care about it. Not even enough to say "2/5".

Re: Ultimate X-Men #87(Spoilers)

It was average. I like the idea that Bishop is working for Cable, though I don't know exactly how that works. I like the art though. It's the best part of this comic.

Apocalypse is near.

Re: Ultimate X-Men #87(Spoilers)

I can summaries what I feel about Ultimate X-Men right now with one word: claustrophobic.

I mean, I can't see a bigger picture. It feels like they aren't fighting in big world, it's more like they are fighting in a back yard. It's not just the art but the story-telling too. It feels like it is missing something, that they didn't have a big enough budget for the scenes-with-many-extras-and the whole-world-watching stuff. I get the same feeling from reading this as I get from watching the small budget sci-fi shows from the 80's where 90% of the plot played out in a command central or something that could be recorded in a single warehouse.

Sorry but: 1/10.

yeah the issues suck lately. But i'm hoping the big things to come will turn this book around.

No idea how people could possibly think Yani's work is anything better than crap...that's just not art.

Book sucks for now, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. They can't possibly F up the phoenix saga. OR Apocalypse...maybe...

I don't understand why everyone hates Paquette. He's a lot better than inconsistent artists like Tom Raney or just plain boring artists like Mark Bagley.

Art is art. It may not be art you like, but it's art nonetheless. It's just art you don't like (like I can't stand Chaykin's art).

This sounds very intresting to me, though. I still think that the fundamental of what's going on in the book lately have been great, just hasn't been executed in the..."proper" manner (for the lack of a better word).

I can't wait to pick the issue up and check this all out.

I completely disagree. It's something new, unexpected, and not some total crap idea like Magneto powered Doc Ock. I don't see what's bad about it, especially without knowing what's the actual intention with this all.

I mean really, it's interesting to see that Bishop is actually working alongside Cable. How is that bad? Because it's not an exact copy of how things went in 616, both coming from different futures and whatnot?

Oh I'm not putting it down anywhere near there, I just personally dont care for it
I know you weren't. I just don't see how the idea is "****ing stupid" (I mean this in no offense), because that's something that the Doc Ock thing was.

It's infintely more interesting than anything that happened to them in mainstream MU. Problem is even still, it's not really that interesting any more.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Bishop tears the X-Men apart. He gets a group of mutants together (with Wolverine and Angel not being what he wants). Cable has blinded them, without Xavier they can't realize that Apocalypse is rising in power. Fenris and the Sentinels are offline and won't interfere.

We're building to a big Apocalypse story, the problem is...there has to be a better way in plot to set this story up.

Exactly! Thank you Foolsfolly.

OK...

Well I like the twist at the end, (which I didn't see coming.) This leaves me to wonder what Cable and Bishop's motivation is... are they good or evil?

If they're evil and are trying to lead the X-Men astray in order for Apocalypse to rise to power, (which would be great) then why would Bishop help the X-Men develop thier powers and be so pleased with thier progress? Doesn't make sense to me.

If they're good, then why would they kidnap Xavier and make the X-Men and the rest of the world believe he is dead?

I have no idea what's going on... but I like it. The mark of a good title makes you wonder what's going to happen next and anticipate the next issue. UXM is succeding in that department, at least for me.

As for the art, I'm not in love with it... in fact I think it's the worst art in the whole series' run to date, but it's not SO bad that I can't read the book or understand what's going on.

My theory is that the old team faced Apocalypse and failed so the future is a hell. The current team was picked by Cable and Bishop to save the future but

1) they had to get rid of Professor X for the team to actually work and come together.
2) OR Professor X is the key to the old teams failure against Apocalypse so they had to get rid of that obstacle for the current team to have a shot.
3) All the above.
