I also think THE SIMPSONS is an awful show, because it's now just like FAMILY GUY.
I can't stand either.
BUT THE SIMPSONS were probably one of the best TV shows ever until its 7th season (give or take an episode here or there). The movie was also rather enjoyable but suffered from a lot of the crap the current show has in abundance.

Heck,They get Paid verytime theres a rerun.
The one that are not getting paid right now are the cameramen and the rest of the film crew.

It's a very smart tactic they are using to twist the facts and get public opinion on their side. Bolsters the whole David vs. Goliath thing.

yes. we know they get paid for writing something initially. what they are striking for is to ensure they get a share of internet downloads, which they AREN'T getting paid for now. they are trying to make sure they are taken care of in the new contracts for a medium that is fast becoming the MAIN source of revenue for entertainment properties. the line between movie theatres, television, and the net is growing smaller all the time. writers ultimately make their living, their pensions, their HEALTH INSURANCE off of rerun residuals and royalties. there is no stipulation for pay for internet right now. if they don't fight now, then all they will ever make is the initial payment on a script. and for most members of the WGA, who are NOT big money makers in Hollywood, this will not be nearly enough to support themselves on.

I'm fully supporting the writer's strike, but I also probably won't feel the effects of the strike at all, because our new season doesn't start until January, as opposed to September for you guys! That means, by the time our new season starts, the strike will probably be over. Anyway, I don't even watch all that many shows at the moment. Lost and Prison Break passed me by, Heroes is the only 'popular' show that I watch religiously and that hasn't started back up over here yet.

With the negotiations due to restart on Monday, the studios and networks have been sending out a memo that goes a little something like this to their employees. They may have to put some pep in their step, since media buyers are almost ready to tell the AMPTP renegotiate the upfronts (advertising costs paid in advance for months ahead) or refund the money. Which, of course, they'd hate.
