Yesterday I reread Ultimates 3 #1. If anything, it was worse the second time.

But then I decided to go back and read all of volume 2 today. My amused disgust at Ultimates 3 has now grown into pure anger. The comparison between the two just reemphasizes why what Loeb is doing is a complete bastardization of the series. That issue is continuity, folks. There's no going back. That issue is the future of a series that was once a phenomenal take on 21st Century superheroes.

If you like what they're doing, keep reading it, but I'm making a call for those of you who are reading it for the sake of completist tendencies to drop it. Just stop reading it. Because it's not just that it's a bad comic, it's a giant **** on the head of a comic that could have actually been great.

So if you don't like it, don't read it. I won't be. And if enough people make the logical choice to drop Ultimates 3 like a lead weight, then maybe more people will start to do the same. And maybe the sales will go down. And maybe Marvel will cancel it and try to clean up their mess.

And then maybe they'll bring in someone who actually deserves to write The Ultimates.

I downloaded the first issue anyway as a test to see what it would be like.

I agree with this though. I hope enough people drop most Loeb books and maybe Marvel will stop giving him big named titles that sell on their name alone and not on content.

Thank you

Ugh! Comics!

That said, I think this might be tolerable if it were actually a bad comic that is faithful to the previous volume. (Assuming such a statement isn't contradictory).

I agree with moonmaster. Loeb is ruining what was one of the best comic series ever done. What is marvel thinking by giving him even more? Now they are going to let him screw up Hulk? Maybe they should stop putting him on books AFTER great writers. Marvel should either just fire Loeb outright or make a rule that he can only write books AFTER crappy writers. Quesada should let a 10 year old write 6 issues of a title before handing it over to Loeb. That way we can be amazed at how much "better the writing got" after Loeb came on board. :)

I will continue to read the series.

For one reason and one reason only.

Someone needs to be there to make fun of it.

(I will, however, just it off the stand and not buy it. 'Cause I'm a rebel. Yeah.)

If I don't become a matyr for this, I'm gonna die
Just don't buy it, the only thing companies listen to is money

I'm using my trades of Ultimates 1 and 2 as fodder to get many of my friends here at college into comics and I have distinctly said "this stuff is amazing! volumes 1 and 2 are incredible but do not touch 3 with a ten-foot pole". My LCS back home is closing so I will have to move my pull list but I can't remember if Ultimates was on it or not... if it was, it won't be. That's for certain.

Screw up Hulk?

The guy is going to completely rape the Ultimate Universe with Ultimatum. Hulk is the least of our worries.

WOuld you guys hate me if i keep buying it?

I actualy did like it.
....And its only five issues anyway.

While it CLEARLY was nowhere NEAR what we've come to expect (from Ultimates), I'll say it again:

a) I stayed with USM for about 50 issues of relative garbage, but now am enjoying it again - and I know many of you have done the same. Who do you think you're fooling by saying you'll ignore this series after only one stinker (granted, with the 'promise' of a few more) :)

b) If no one bought it, what would UC'ers complain about? UIM 2 #1 was not total poop

This is a good point.

As bad as Ultimates 3 #1 was and as bad as it looks like it might get, it's nowhere near as bad as Clone Saga.

UIM 2 #1 was not total poop

Neither was Ultimate Iron Man #1, but that didn't mean much in the end.

Good point. At this point, I have no hope for the rest of Ultimates 3, and none for the eventual Ultimates 4. I'm even holding out hope that Marvel is listening to fans complaints about this title (its being trashed by fans across the internet--especially Marvel.com's boards--and most "professional" reviews haven't been kind either), and will re-announce a new writer and artist for Ultimates 4. Millar and Hitch deserved 2 volumes (hell, they deserved an infinite amount in my opinion), but Loeb doesn't deserve any more than the one he's got. He'd have to REALLY blow me away in the next four issues to give this series even the most miniscule amount of merit, since this first issue was so ****ing bad. Its literally the worst comic I've ever read, both because of content and because its creators and publishers were somehow able to take this seriously. WTF is wrong with these people?

The entire series was utter crap as a whole, and thats how I really rate a mini-series. The first issue was merely ok, tolerable. The rest were abhorrent twistings of an existing character.

First, he managed to make an excuse for Tony's drinking (to dull his constant pain), completely taking away a very interesting human character fault and turning it into a form of self-medication. It makes his only using alcohol to dull his pain (as opposed to stronger drugs, like opiates) strangely heroic. Still irresponsible, but more understandable and forgivable... **** that. I like my Tony a genius, womanizing, alcoholic hero--not a physically regenerating mutant who drinks to dull his constant pain, but who also happens to get plenty of ***.

Card managed to neuter Tony's impending brain tumor storyline--if he has neural tissue ALL over his body, how does a brain tumor become mortal? If his body can heal from wounds and grow back entire limbs as long as Tony's eaten a big meal, why can't he survive a brain tumor, or the surgery required to remove it?

Some can claim this is the Ultimate universe and "new" approaches are good, but this one wasn't. This whole series was crap.
