So I'm... somewhere else and is discussing OMD and we get into other things that Marvel have done that upset people but is completely forgotten and forgiven today and someone made a point about Tony Stark that in an arc, that was canon, the Tony Stark from 616 died and was replaced by a younger Tony Stark from another dimension. He was aged to be the same age as the original Tony Stark and just continued to live his life and THAT is the Tony Stark that we read about today.

Now my question is; did that really happen and in that case when?

He was replaced by a younger Stark before the Avengers crossover The Crossing until around Heroes Reborn. When he returned from that he was normal Tony again.

I don't recall how that happened, but I'm positive he wasn't just replaced and aged.

So the 616 was just replaced for awhile, thought to be dead and then came back? Yeah, sounds like Marvel alright. It also seems like the other poster didn't have the whole story. Thanks.

Yeah, I believe there was an Annual, maybe, during the Busiek Heroes Return run that explained the whole thing.

I actually liked the teenage Tony stories. Jim Cheung was the artist.

I don't know whether that is true or not, but tolerating the Marvel Universe right now is based entirely on not being around to witness or remember most of what was published in the late 90s.

I say this only because I want to point out --- on a rather off-topic note--- that the Fantastic Four we know now are actually the same characters who Franklin Richards shoved into the Heroes Reborn pocket universe where they lived out a year or so worth of stories where they had no recollection of their 616 past.

They were later reinstated into the 616 universe with memories unaltered. So basically, the Reed Richards we're reading now? He should remember Wyatt Wingfoot, Agent of SHIELD but shouldn't remember any 616 stories that were published before Heroes Reborn. And strangely, they never seem to express any memories about their experiences from Heroes Reborn.
