Oliver Stone's directing a film about George W. Bush to be released in time for the elections or inauguration. The script was put together by Stone's co-writer on Wall Street.

Oliver Stone said:
"I want a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It's like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I'll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from. It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq. It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors."

Discuss.

The script pages that were leaked don't seem too unbiased.

I'll see it, but i'm a little cautious about it.

It won't be unbiased unless they cast someone as Satan, Dubbya's Dark Lord and Master.

I suggest Eddie Izzard.

This is the same guy who did Wall street? - I'm not familiar with him or his other work, but Wall street is very well scripted and acted. I watched it with my Dad and we talked about it for ages afterward...this could be good, and I'd like to learn more about bush from a 'hope to understand him' PoV

I agree Planet-Man. These films are historical biopics - they discuss a prominent person or event and their role in history. If the biopic is released before that role is OVER... well, it kinda makes it pointless.

If Bush does something weird or something weird happens to him, it'll not be part of the film. JFK took place, what, thirty years after the fact? Bush is still in the White House. :?

Yes, but this way, if something notable does occur post-Presidency for Bush, it opens up the possibility of a sequel.

And studios love sequels.

Just wait. In 15 years, you'll see "W2".

I read about this at the HSX. Josh Brolin is the lead candidate to play Dubya.

I wouldn't say that Stone is trying to be non-biased about this, but since when does non-biased or fair and balanced become the most important measure of a film about history?

I do however, like the idea of Bush being portrayed as an individual with a psychology and quirks and hang-ups and neuroses, as regardless of whether or not that paints him in a positive or negative light... it at least goes far away from the whole "Bush is stupid" caricature that comedy shows have run into the ground.

Based off of the script leaks, it sounds like it will at least be pretty funny. Bush gets into a fistfight with his dad and pilots a plane drunk.

I'm so sick of things like that, not on agreement/disagreement grounds, but on grounds of good comedy. This also applies to Dick Cheney/gun jokes.

I still like the Cheney gun jokes, but they have to be the kinds that aren't actually funny but are actually more, "Oh, you *******..."

Ourchair Point worthy, basical.ly.

That title only makes me think of my taxes.

Exactly as it should.

That wasn't a leaked script, that was a news report from the Bush family reunion last July 4th.

It pretty much happens like that every year.

Isn't that the secret to all good jokes? Unless there's a certain amount of wincing and head turning, its just not funny.

At first, I thought he was crazy to cast Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush, but then after I thought about it some more, I realized it really is an ingenious little bit of casting. Banks is absolutely gorgeous, but with a little hair and makeup, I have no doubt she could look (and sound!) just like the First Lady.

I'm down for this..... if it means Michael Showalter as Donald Rumsfeld, David Wain as Dick Cheney and Michael Ian Black, in drag and blackface, as Condeleeza Rice.
