Now that Phoenix defeated Apocalypse, was the Ultimate age of apocalypse time line we saw averted?

I must admit I am sucker for bleak, dystopia futures where the villain has won, it does hammer home the price of failure for the heroes.

Wolverine got his arm, eye and healing factor back, so I'd guess probably so.

I have a question about this actually: If Xavier had to go to the future and train, why was he so useless? I mean, surely Jean would have turned into Phoenix and destroyed Apocalypse anyway, regardless of Xaviers presence and/or future training? It seems like the past two years of comics have been pretty pointless, especially with the whole reset button ending (mind you, I'm pretty glad about that because there were some aweful mistakes made).

I refuse to believe that was the entire Age of Apocalypse. Marvel (hopefully) isn't that mean (I pray dear God).

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner!

The problems of time travel:
  • Jean should have gone Phoenix either way, thereby negating the need for cable and bishop
  • why that moment?
  • would Cable and Bishop cease to exist as we know they as their past has changed?

I wouldn't say that it's really averted.

All it takes is the proper story and you could do it again. Hell if I thought hard enough about it, I could come up with one.

It'd probably involve Charles being arrogant enough to think that he could fix something he should've left alone, thus causing him to make the same mistake again. Only this time there is no one to stop it. Probably go with Charles getting involved with the Shi'ar again....only this time letting them take Jean.

So from what we have seen, is the ultimate AoA any different from the regular AoA?

It also seems like a very bright second grader told them what they wanted in a comic. Although, it might have been a slow third grader...

"I think Cyclops should be strong! More muscle! And you need to rip Wolverine's arm off. But you can put it back on afterward, just use a bandaid. And Jean should kick everyones butt! And I liked angel, so bring him back."

Well here's a good question, should they revisit this or should they just let sleeping dogs lay?

Maybe 2 or 3 years down the line.

Bring back/introduce a key character and have the storyline go back down that path. Like perhaps Phoenix isn't as "all knowing as she portrays to be"? Perhaps her "reseting" things was all gonna happen anyways? And perhaps by her doing that, she set into motion events that will lead to UAoA?

It's not that its a bad idea...it just needs to be handled carefully and treated with the respect a massive event like that is and not a sidenote to end a run.

I wish I was writing this. I has ideas that would actually work.

You might as well share them, the regular (earth 295) AoA was interesting concept, but the execution fell flat in a lot of places. Future Imperfect was a better version of the same concept. So there is room for improvement.

Why don't you share your ideas as well?

You mean bring back cable, who says the future is still messed up or something else?
