And while I don't like the fact that now Greedo shot first, I completely disagree with the idea that it fundamentally changes the character of Han Solo. That's ridiculous.
Me too.

If Greedo shot last, it means that Han Solo is a bad-***. If Greedo shot first, then it means that Greedo just beat him to it and missed, while Han didn't... making him STILL a bad-***.

A man who shoots somebody because they are being shot at by them is fairly normal, and quite different from a man who shoots somebody because they are pissing him off.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that's actually a U.S. law.

No like I mentioned, If Han shot first it makes him a shoot first ask questions later bad-***. If Greedo shoots first it means Han wouldn't shoot anyone unless they shot at him first which is kind of noble
Not necessarily.

If Greedo shot first, it DOESN'T mean that Han is NOT a shoot first ask questions later badass. It just means he got beaten to the punch.

He was gonna, but then Greedo got the first shot and missed. At point blank range. Because Greedo is a loser and is not as awesome as Han.

I'm saying you can interpret Han's character beyond the actions --- "he didn't shoot first?! WTF" --- and look at it in terms of intent.

As E pointed out, even if you say Greedo shot first, Han never replicates this behavior: He ALWAYS shoots first if he gets the chance. He didn't in the Cantina, and it just so happened luck and being just So Damn Awesome was in his favor.

Well I'll agree to disagree. I think it did.

If you already know the movies then yeah, you can imagine it either way. But from a storytelling perspective, it still shakes things up immensly, and I really can't believe you're saying that a man who shoots when being shot at is in no way less immeadiately obviously badass than one who shoots somebody during an argument.

That plus the other guys he shoots at are Stormtroopers who are soldiers/cops. Even Luke shoots first at them. But Greedo was a business meeting where he just shot the guy because it wasn't going his way. That's very different.

Think in say comics. Punisher shoots at some random gang of thugs. Doesn't mean as much as if he was talking to someone in a business meeting of sorts and then unexpectedly shoots him. It's more of a "Oh **** that's cold"

Maybe that's not the best explanation

If it wasn't for the internet, I wouldn't even notice these changes like Greedo shooting first.

In a way, the internet ruined my enjoyment of Star Wars.

I really, really like the Thrawn novels.

And that's about all of the Expanded Universe I like.

Though I do want a Sun Crusher.

It was of course more than just a "business meeting", but I completely agree with the track you're on.

I'd definitely have noticed that because I always remembered that scene especially.

The internet hasn't ruined my enjoyment of Star Wars at all, but it has made me grow a bit sicker of it than I probably would have otherwise simply because so much of the web still uses it like an up-to-the-minute pop culture reference. I go on Cracked.com every day and I'd say on average two of every week's daily craption photo, which are supposed to be the most random and bizarre photos you can find, are just Star Wars characters in some unlikely situation like at a strip club or in a manger. There are only so many Boba Fett jokes people can come up with before the entire thing gets tired(this is of course a scale model of the situation).

Having said that, I still love Star Wars' effect on the internet because it proves that if people love a fiction world and characters enoug, they WILL. MAKE. THEM. REAL. At any cost, in any way they can, with all the money and time they've got until they're satisfied. I love that. It's one of my favourite things that I've ever learned and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Ahhhh.

Oh, and this is still just about the most hilarious random picture I've ever seen:

Revenge of the Sith is easily the best of the prequels and is tremendous fun. But even Ian McDiarmid's EXCELLENT Darth Plagueis speech can't make up for what I still believe is the worst line in movie history:

Anakin: You are so beautiful.

Padmé: It's only because I'm so much in love.

Anakin: No! It's only because I'm so much in love with you!

:arrgh:
.

Well the Sith prequels are good concepts, but the execution is marred by this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GeorgeLucasLoveStory

My rule of thumb is that love stories only work if a) they make get inside a character's skin and completely understand why they're in love with their love interest(personal e.g. Friends(Ross), Wet Hot American Summer) or if they're really special, make everyone watching pretty much fall in love themselves(The Office, Lois and Clark).

Episode II didn't seem to understand this at all, and the plan to make up for in with re-enforcitory dialogue backfired. But then again, I have the exact same problems with Romeo and Juliet. Only at least with that, I can try and assume it's supposed to be a satire.8)

Edit: Oh my god I still can't believe how awesome that TVtropes site is. They have exactly what I just said about Romeo and Juliet under "strangled by the red string".

Edit 2: Seriously. If I had been on this site last night I would've failed the exam I had today. Look at this - http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Wangst or this - http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot - or this http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CursedWithAwesome.

It's like finding out that I was born in a website, and this is it.

When I found TVtropes a few months back I was incapable of doing anything but read it for over a week. My favorites might be all the stuff connected to the "Scrappy Doo" trope.

Wow. "The Greedo shooting first" argument on an Internet Message Board.

That's got to be the most clichéd thing that I've never even seen before.

Well, it's not like it just came out of nowhere.

And I don't know about you, but I have never before argued with anyone about Greedo shooting first.

I've always joked about it with friends, but I never actually cared who shot first because I don't think it actually changes anything....besides who shot first.

Oh no, I'm just saying that in movies and TV shows, whenever there's a stereotypical geek argument or rant that centers around Star Wars, there's usually something about Greedo shooting first.

It makes Han Solo less of a cold-blooded mercenary badass.
