It seems like the best marvel movies take the best of the UU and the 616 universe and blend them together to make a good movie. Many of the themes, costume and concept updates from the UU are included, but the characterization is often from the 616 universe.

Examples: The X-Men movies have costumes that more similar to the UXM costumes rather then the 616 universe and the movie X-Men universe is more down to Earth like the early issues of UXM (no time travle or aliens) but the characterization is more like the 616 universe, movie Magneto is still an Anti Villain rather then an evil monster.

In the Spider-Man movie the spider was genetically altered instead of radioactive, but Green Goblin was a guy in a costume, instead of a guy who turned into a goblin.

The best example of this is Iron Man, the theme of a super human arms race was used, some of the fun personality quirks from the UU were added to movie Tony, but movie Tony's origin has an updated version of his silver age origin, rather then the stupid origin we saw in UIM.

So anyway, in upcoming movies like Thor, Captain America and Avengers, what elements should be used from the UU and what elements should be used from the 616 universe?

Well I have a feeling that Thor's adaptation will be more akin to his 616 counterpart and they'll hopefully go off of J. Michael Strazinski's run. It seems like it would work better in a film setting. Brubaker's run on Captain America could also be used quite well to make a more likable Cap. Throw in some elements from the UU and I think it would work out well.

Well there are visual elements to consider too, I'm not sure the 616 costumes would work on screen. I never cared for the whole wing head look 616 Cap has, so they may go with the Ultimate Cap look in the movies. However since 616 Red Skull is far more interesting and realisitc then Kleiser he should be the villain, considering they are setting it in WWII. But they need to have the Castle Seige in Ultimates 1 as the climax of the film.

In sequel when Cap is in modern times, one idea is Cap starts off as a bit of a jerk, but develops over the course into the boy scout character from the 616 universe. It would be fun to see some of the shock of waking up 60 years later scenes that were in the first Ultimates arc.

I wonder though, what would be better 616 Bucky or Ultimate Bucky?

Now as for Thor, I kinda like the Ultimate Thor look a little better, I like the beard and I never liked the wing helmut. I also like the idea that everyone thinks he is crazy, rather then just acceprting he is a Norse god. The hippie thing, I can take or leave. I can do without the ye olde English though.

Movie Loki I think he should look like Ultimate Loki at first, but at the end, he wears a more fearsome version of his 616 costume.

They're just doing what seems most realistic. Or rather, what's more relevant to today's society. So of course they'd use a genetically altered spider rather than a radioactive spider. I think most of the fun personality quirks used for Tony were just RDJ being himself. And Tony's 616 origin is the definitive Iron Man origin. They would never use the UIM origin. The X-Men movie came out before UXM I believe. It's not like there's one brain at Marvel who comes up with all these ideas. I'm sure if Jon Favreau had directed Spider-Man, he would have done it differently than Sam Raimi. It all depends on who's involved. Take the Hulk movies for example. Ang Lee and that French dude who directed Incredible Hulk had two completely different visions.

And no matter how much influence the UU has on the movies, they're still not going to change the origin of the characters. With Iron Man, they stayed with the 616 origin but made it contemporary. With Incredible Hulk, gamma radiation is still the source of his transformation, even though we get the sense that the experiment was meant to replicate the super-soldier formula. And we already know that Captain America is taking place in WWII. I doubt they're going to make Thor a psychotic ex-nurse.

I don't think there's room for 616 Bucky. I personally dislike Winter Soldier.

Well, X-Men doesn't count, because Mark Millar actually wrote UXM using the first X-Men movie as a reference. So the idea of the black uniforms versus colourful spandex belonged to the movie.
