I recently had a conversation with friends about old cartoons. Superhero cartoons were the focus, and I was surprised to find I was the only one who preffered JLU over Teen Titans. I felt it would be nice to have a discussion about it.

Teen Titans is a great show. There's no question about it. And the fact is that it has had a greater impact on cartoons then JLU. Ever since Teen Titans, there's been a surge in cartoons that juggle action, drama and funny. It also started a trend of anime made outside Japan. This trend had started a little before Teen Titans, but it really hit it's stride afterwards. The best examples of this are probably IGPX and Avatar: The Last Airbender. You could say the reason JLU didn't outshine it in this respect is because it got put in a crappy timeslot, but that's too wanky for my tastes.

Teen Titans also had some really good stories. Some episodes, particularly the ones involving Slade, were downright brilliant. My personal favorite is that one where Killer Moth blackmailed Robin into taking his daughter to prom. Because that's just comic gold.

I'd honestly say Teen Titans was at least of equal quality with JLU, if not for some times where it was a bit rough around the edges. The Brother Blood arc and the Starfire puberty episode come to mind. With JLU, I can't remember a single episode that I didn't love. So I'll just say both were very good shows, but JLU was better overall.

Note: Most of my friends were under the impression that JLU was the same show as Justice League. I can very much see where they were coming from, and would probably agree with them if that were the case. Justice League took a while to find its stride.

So. You guys got any thoughts?

Your friends should be beaten severely, while Teen Titans did have it's moments it was wholly average until around the Trigon storyline. JLU on the other hand was awesome in just about every episode.

Word.Titans were great in their own right but the Cadmus storyline was all around win.

Can't compare them, one is apples, the other is oranges.

I like apples and not oranges, oranges are too juicy and sticky. There I just made a comparison with them.

Teen Titans. Now if it was Justice League vs teen titans I'd go JL but once it became unlimited I didn't enjoy it.

I just think Titans is more enjoyable. The characters are likeable, the tone is light-hearted, the style is an interesting blend of East and West....

And the Teen Titans cartoon kind of had more of an impact on the comics than JLU. That future storyline in the comics where Cyborg looked like his cartoon counterpart; Mas Y Menos being incorporated into the comics....

Incorporating the cartoon version of Jinx would have been a better choice. She's a far better character then the comics version, and could pull some serious weight on her own.

I think the reason Teen Titans was more successful, impact-wise, then JLU is simple. JLU had been using a style that had been used by the Timmverse for the past decade. Teen Titans was something entirely new and different from anything they'd tried before.
