DC Entertainment Wants A Blue Beetle Live-Action Series

DC Entertainment hopes to develop a live-action series featuring Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes. That's according to Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, who's in a position to know.

This morning Johns wrote excitedly on Twitter: "BLUE BEETLE NEWS from DCE!! We have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes' scarab activating his suit. It. Is. Awesome. … Blue Beetle's going to appear in most of the Brave and the Bold's this year and we're hoping to develop a live-action show. Fingers crossed! … If I can break it out of the vault, I'll bring it to SDCC. LIVE ACTION BLUE BEETLE!!"

I'm down, although that series would need one hell of a high budget to handle the suit.

I remember that show, it was absolutely ridiculous. Bunch of kids hanging out with ghost and monsters transform into beetle-themed Power Rangers rip off. And a Jay Leno ghost/clown/whatever he was

I'm desperately hoping this doesn't end up as bad as Smallville.

Ghost-Jay Leno-Zordon scared the crap out of me.

I was never a devoted fan of the Power Rangers shows, but Beetleborgs was amazing. I got up fifteen minutes earlier than usual to watch it before school every morning. I only lost interest after they swapped actresses for the main girl in the most contrived plot twist ever. Anyone remember that? ****.

But uh, yeah. Blue Beetle.

I hope he looks like this.

Even though Jaime Reyes is a more interesting character than Ted Kord, I think it would be hard to make a live action Blue Beetle TV series interesting in the first place.

is blue beetle a character that anyone outside of comics would recognize? it would take some amount of work to bring in the non-comics audience i would think.

I used to watch it too, but really it made NO sense. And I do remember when they replaced the girl. One of the bad guys changed her appearance, and they were able to somehow change it back for everyone else, but for her and the other beetle borgs, she continued to look like the new girl...or something like that...

and then they changed the name of the show to Beetle Borgs Metalix and gave them new, shiner suits.

i can't believe i remember that much about the show...i think i only watched it b/c it came on FOX kids right after Wishbone ended on PBS

yeah, i can't imagine that anyone outside of hard core DC fans know who he is. Which, I'm sure is the reason behind this:

Blue Beetle's going to appear in most of the Brave and the Bold's this year
