The past and present X-Men are joined by the future X-Men! The future X-Men are led by Kate Pryde, the adult version of the Days of Future Past Kitty! CBR talks with editor Nick Lowe, Jason Aaron, and Brian Wood about it. It's a 10 part event running through Wolverine & the X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, All-New X-Men, and X-Men being bookended by BATTLE OF THE ATOM issues (the first drawn by Frank Cho).

Art Adams did the designs for the future X-Men and will be doing the covers for the event.

Re: X-Men: Battle of the Atom (50th Anniversary Event)

So.
Jean Grey.

Discuss.

And man is Young Scott a tool. At least old Scott has the backbone to purposely be a tool. Young Scott is just being a tool.

I added spoilers to the thread title so we can discuss this without having to hide anything.

So Jean Grey is Lady Xorn from the future X-Men. That would've made a nice cliffhanger, but still pretty shocking. How does Jean survive to adult hood? Is this Jean from the past that somehow didn't die and grew up or the return of older Jean? So many questions going through my head!

I'm sure we'll find out how Iceman became Ice-Hulk or whatever he's actually called. Young Bobby's reaction was great.

It was weird to see Kitty and Scott work together like they were getting along. It would've been better if they worked together, but instead Kitty was doing it still being angry at him.

Need part 3 nooooooow.

^co-sign. Need part 3 now!

5 stars. Both issues. And that's me being objective!

Hey hank, come with me

Hell no, I want to see where this'd is going.

Scott, come with me.

Done. I'll even steal the plane.

My guess is that future Jean is the Jean that we'd get if past Jean is never sent back, because apparently time travel is extra messy in the marvel universe now

I enjoyed it for the most part and I'm very excited for part 3. I feel like they could have used a scene with present day Cyclops giving his younger self a stern talkin' to. Like, "Hey young me, if you're going to stay in my time, please try to refrain from getting us killed. k, thanks."

And what's the problem with Dazzler being the president in an alternate future? :?

If you like it - absolutely nothing.

To me, it's retarded and perfectly encapsulates exactly what is wrong with the X-Men and it's constant incestuous cannibalism. Dazzler - who is not a leader, has no political history, and is not a particularly commanding presence - is the President of the United States? Nothing about her history or character is conducive to that kind of story. It's like the writer decided to just come up with random and different because every other random and different idea was already done.

I liked the idea of Battle of the Atom but by the end I was so bored I found it a chore to read - and the inconsistent art didn't help. I also don't want Bendis to write another story involving time travel or alternate universes ever again.

You make it seem like it's a bigger deal than it is (which it's not).

Honestly, it could've been any other mutant, but Bendis chose her for a reason, wrote a good enough explanation in the story why Dazzler was chosen. It wouldn't have mattered who the president was (and I'm sure you'll rant off saying it's even more pointless there...), because whomever was chosen was going to be killed, because even in the role of POTUS, there are still mutant haters. It was a short scene to depict that as the catalyst for why the future Brotherhood came back.

Well, yeah…

Well, yeah…
Shortest rant ever.

Seriously though, it's fine not to like who was chosen. I wouldn't disagree or anything. That'd be fine. But I don't see why you have to go all "retarded and perfectly encapsulates exactly what is wrong with the X-Men and it's constant incestuous cannibalism." Too harsh and over the line.

I feel bad for Jason Aaron because this event was his idea, but Bendis was the one who wrote half of it.

Not really. It's typical of how things work in X-books. Everything is so self-contained and self-referenced that you don't get new or innovative ideas or characters, you get stupid ideas like Dazzler as the President. Or Mystique as Nightcrawler's mother. And so on and so on.

It's worse considering the definition of a mutant in the MU. They could be dominos much more and have so many cool characters. But instead, a disco singer who can turn sound into light (is that her power?) becomes president. It's completely ridiculous.

She was actually really good in X Treme X Men (which should have been called Exiles), and it was more turning sound in light constructs.

I'm not complaining about the character, I'm just saying that nothing in her history suggests any kind of potential anything close to becoming President.

Dazzler was a publicity stunt that a record company wanted Marvel to do in the 70s after they saw the success that the Kiss comics were. They were hoping to pay Marvel to promote their label in this new comic about a superhero singer. Jim Shooter pushed it through during his tenure as Marvel's EiC, even though no one else at Marvel wanted to do it.

But it doesn't matter if that's in her history or not!! If this was something like that was done with Lex Luthor, I'd get it. It was just a small bit with Dazzler! Not a big deal, nothing to really fuss over about.
