Do we want a new thread for the new volume of DD? I was going to start on but then I noticed that this thread goes back to 2005 and Bendis' run on the book.

Anyway, I read the first issue of the new volume. I like how they've focused on how different San Fran is from New York. DD isn't as familiar with it, which makes it a little difficult for him. The Sherlock Holmes scene at the beginning was also an interesting twist - I wonder if that will be ongoing. And I like Kristen, she really gives Matt a run for his money, it keeps things interesting. And of course, Foggy. I wonder what's going on there.

Might as well make a clean break from the old thread...

So, the mystery of Foggy revealed.

I'm interested to see if Julia Carpenter comes into this. As of now, she's the new Madame Web and is in a coma, I think.

Lying cat says you're lying.

Does anyone else feel like this is missing something though? The Owl has been a joke villain for as long as I can remember so a super competent Leland Owlsely doesn't jive with me at all. I don't really care about Not The Hood either. The Foggy b-plot would probably be more interesting to me if I had read the end of the last series but I've only got up to his confrontation with Bullseye.

Maybe it just needs a better adversary. DD has always been about his struggle against his enemies and how far either are willing to go. If I can't see The Owl as a threat its going to take a lot out of the series.

Bendis had a story that made the Owl a more credible threat a few years ago. Or at least the story was that he had become a more credible threat.

I remember that one, but it was more about introducing MGH into the marvel universe then making the owl into a heavy hitter. He was still kind of a schmuck.

Yeah, he was less of a joke but he was still pretty much a joke.

I hope Waid is returning to The Avengers. That'd be the bee's knees.
