Marvel Cinematic Universe - Timeline

Speaking of reasonings for timeline placements, have the dates from the Stark Expo in Iron Man 2 been considered yet?

According to this website http://eatingcroutons.tumblr.com/mcu-timeline, when Tony hangs up an Iron Man poster, there's 362 days remaining, and when Vanko attacks the Expo, there are 343 days remaining, meaning that at least 22 days pass.

According to this tie-in website, https://web.archive.org/web/20100404075401/http://www.starkexpo2010.com, the Expo opens on May 7, which isn't necessarily canon but can fit with the above information, as well as Tony's birthday being on May 29th, if the Expo is a couple of days over a year (like 367 days or so).

Sorry I've been absent for a while, things in real life have been hectic.

Just wanted to add to some of the "Obama administration" discussion we had during Runaways. I've been doing a re-watch, hoping to end by Infinity War. While rewatching Luke Cage, in E6 at 25:25, the reporter interviewing Mariah says "Remember when Obama sang Al Green?"

I found it on YouTube, that happened in our time on January 20th, 2012, a year before his second inauguration. So if we assume this happened at the same event in the MCU, then something must have happened to him in 2012 so that Ellis became President.

Could something have happened to him in the wake of Avengers that caused him to have the presidency taken from him? Or was he somewhere under Stark Tower that day?

Steve got the Super Serum on June 22, 1943.

If the current placement for that on this timeline is because of the June 23 date on the newspaper, perhaps that is because it was printed the day after.

Here's the edit:

I'm adding stuff to the timeline reasoning spreadsheet, and I have a question.

What's the reasoning for the placement of Spider-Man - Homecoming: Prelude #1 (pg. 1-2) in November 2015?

Also, I think Ant-Man Chapter 15: "End of the Line" (1:43:13 - 1:47:33) should be moved to October 2015 (as opposed to October 9 where it is currently placed).

Pym Tech events are at nighttime on October 9, and it is daytime when Hank is asking Scott about what he saw in the Quantum Realm.

Mid-credits scene also seems to be immediately after this scene, since Hank and Hope are wearing the same outfits, and it seems to still be daytime from outside the basement window.

Suggestion:

October 9
Ant-Man Chapter 13: "In the System" (1:10:03 - 1:23:20)
Ant-Man Chapter 14: "Disintegration" (1:23:21 - 1:34:19)
Ant-Man Chapter 15: "End of the Line" (1:34:20 - 1:43:12)

October
Ant-Man Chapter 15: "End of the Line" (1:43:13 - 1:44:42)
Ant-Man Chapter 16: "Epilogue" (1:49:25 - 1:50:17)
Ant-Man Chapter 15: "End of the Line" (1:44:43 - 1:47:33)

EDIT: Also, you've got Iron Man 2 Chapter 1: "Across the Globe" (0:02:57 - 0:04:30) and Iron Man 2 Chapter 1: "Across the Globe" (0:04:31 - 0:05:03) in 2009, even though our current assumption is that Vanko finishes building his Arc Reactor 6 months before Iron Man 2, which is in May.

So it should be:

2010
????
Iron Man 2 Chapter 1: "Across the Globe" (0:02:57 - 0:04:30)

November
Iron Man 2 Chapter 1: "Across the Globe" (0:04:31 - 0:05:03)

Not really sure if this changes the placement of Iron Man 2: Public Identity though.

Just got back from Black Panther. a couple take aways i noticed:

This is the week after T'Chaka's death. so 1-14 days later, (Sunday-Monday or Monday-the following sunday).
There's mention of Martin Freeman's character being "another white boy" fixed up by Wakandan tech. This means the Civil War post credits scene with Bucky is prior to the film.
There's a lot of stuff in 1992.

Yeah, BP is very stand-alone. Only real chronological takeaways I had were:

- Kinda have to ignore the time stamp from the Infinity War Prelude comic, but you're still in the margin of a few days, so no big deal.

- 1992 was frequently referred to as 30 years ago. Just have to assume they were exaggerating and it was really 24 years.

I'm wondering if this is in attempt to course correct the Homecoming goof. If Avengers was 8 years ago in Homecoming then HC is 2020, which is almost 30 years from 1992. Is there anything that specifically holds Civil War to 2016? I know a four year gap would be odd, but is it a possibility?

Mainly its timeline placement relative to the other movies (4 years supposedly after The Avengers), but hints have been dropped (by Feige and the Prelude comics) that the timeline is being retconned so that Civil War, Black Panther, and Homecoming are in 2018 or so.

Well, I think the current working theory for timeline geeks outside of this thread is that Avengers 1 was 2010 and CW/HC/BP are in 2017 (making the 8 year later be more like 7.5, but close enough).

To get super specific, T'Challa says Klaue has escaped Wakandan Justice for "nearly 30 years". So it's less than a hard 30 based on that, plus you have the flexibility of saying that maybe the vibranium theft happened in the late 80's but the investigation took a few years and T'Chaka didn't figure it all out until 1992.

The other instance was when someone refers to T'Chaka doing nothing for 30 years. It kinda seemed like they meant he did nothing about Klaue for that time, but you could also say they meant the entirety of his rule and he was King for a few years before the incident happened.

As for Civil War being 2016, there are many reasons. On screen date. A year after Avengers 2. 4 years since Avengers 1 (said by Ross). 8 years since "I Am Iron-Man" (Vision). ~6 months since Ant-Man (Spider-Man reference from journalist at the end). Sam says they looked for Bucky for 2 years.

And that's just from the movies. Once you factor in the TV stuff, especially Agents of SHIELD, there's really no way of reworking it to be anything but early 2016.

Right now, I'm betting the big tell in Infinity War will be Spidey's grade number. Hopefully it's his junior year.

I'm wondering where we should place Black Panther in terms of Agents of SHIELD episodes? In what space of time does AOS S3 Episodes 20-22 take place? A week? Shall we place Black Panther after Episode 22?

I had the same thought and just started episode 20. The news report Coulson is watching at the bar doesn't get specific, but makes it seem like it's a day after the fight in Siberia. They only mention Cap being missing, and not the rest of his faction, so I'd say it starts even before the breakout on the 14th.

I'll see what else I can catch, but Right now I'm pretty sure BP is after those 3 episodes.

As far as Black Panther goes, the opening is obviously in 1992 with the majority of the rest of the film taking place a week after Civil War. The film takes place over 3-4 days (only seen it once so far, will try to notice exactly when I see it again today) and the first post-credits scene follows the film by a few days. The second post-credits scene could be anywhere from right after the movie to a small amount of time before Infinity War.
The line "another white boy to fix" could just refer to Bucky before he's fixed when Shuri's still working on him.

Yeah, presumably those episodes pick up a day or so after events of Civil War and cover a couple days themselves, so placing Black Panther afterward makes sense if it picks up a week after Civil War. As said that requires ignoring the "months later" tag in the Infinity War Prelude #1 comic.

We also need to re-examine the Iron Man 2/Thor/Incredible Hulk/Fury's Big Week placements.

Can't remember who, but someone suggested re-arranging some of that and it was brought to my attention some stuff isn't matching up (namely Tony's debrief with Fury occurring before the battle between Hulk and Blonsky at the university, which is impossible since video of that encounter was playing on screens in background of the debrief scene in IM2, meaning the Hulk battle must occur before or at same time as the debrief).

If you're going to be doing that, I've suggested taking into account also the "days left" counter at the Stark Expo. The first time the counter appears, there are 362 days left, and the next time it appears (during the battle at the expo), there are 343 days left.

Here's how the MCU wiki lays it out: http://marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/2010

You don't have to ignore "months later". The "months later" scene is Shuri explaining how she's almost fixed Bucky. That still checks out.

You do have to ignore the "weeks later" tag for the scene where Bucky agrees to go on ice. That has to be more like "days" after Siberia, since it was definitely before BP.

Negative. The footage at the debriefing was from the Culver University battle, not the Harlem fight.
