Star Wars Canon Expanded Universe - Timeline - Reading Order

Earliest chronological works on timeline now confirmed to be several new titles with the reveal of Project Luminous - The High Republic, set 200 years before TPM.

Titles include:

Novels -

The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule
The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray
The High Republic: A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland

Comics -

The High Republic by Cavan Scott
The High Republic Adventures by Daniel Jose Older

This is excellent work! The best canon timeline I've come across yet. Thanks for the work! I would very much love to see this updated now season 7 is drawing to an end.

I got the impression that Episode 8 leads directly into episode 9. Could you explain your reasoning for placing the Bad Batch arc where it is?

Updated with the Clone Wars finale. The placement may seem odd, but
the final scene of the episode features a flashforward to Darth Vader, who has his lightsaber, which he built in the third arc of the 2017 Darth Vader comic. Therefore, I've placed the whole episode there, the earliest it can possibly be, to minimise separating out the episodes.

If you're watching this all for the first time and are happy to jump around slightly in the chronology, you may wish to save the final four episodes of Clone Wars to watch all in one go at the point I've placed the finale in the timeline to get the best story flow, rather than breaking the arc up as I have done. Definitely don't watch the final three episodes before Revenge of the Sith, though, that's the most important thing.

I just came across this. Very nice work. I built my own personal chronological viewing order that also includes some legends material. Let me know what you think!

As for that Clone Wars finale's flash forward, the rusted helmet and imperial hardware suggests it's a few years into the Empire's reign.

Great, but I'd add The Star Wars Holiday Special. Truly legendary, top tier Star Wars that will never be topped.

Nah, usually I separate Legends/canon but I wonder how well they'd mesh if you only included live action/animated (Droids, Ewoks, 2003 Clone Wars). I mean, both Clone Wars are already both in the same universe, that being Legends, with explanations already having been given for discrepancies, so it would only be Season 7 on that. The other animated shows are inconsequential.

I would say that your inclusions of Legends being the good stuff provides a better viewing experience than 2 seasons worth of teddy bears just because we can.

Edit: Wait, you technically included 10 minutes of Holiday Special, so I take that first comment back.

According to Wookieepedia, three Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures shorts aren't adaptations. These are:
  • Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures: Darth Vader vs. Rebel Fleet: Fearsome Fighter Pilot
Placed between 2x06-2x07 of Star Wars Rebels (after Rebels Recon Missions to be exact).
  • Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures: Chewbacca: The Trusty Co-Pilot
Placed between Star Wars: Adventures 25: The Right Wrong Turn and Tales from Vader's Castle.
  • Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures: Darth Vader: Might of the Empire
Placed between Bounty Hunters and TIE Fighters.

Up to you whether they're worth including, but seeing as they're unique, and not a (technically non-canonical) retelling of the saga.

But the voice over implies someone in-universe is telling these stories to in-universe characters.

I interpreted that as simply out-universe narration, though it could be like the text at the start of Ep 1-9 where it is from the whills. I suppose that's a possible way to include the adaptations as canon. Since these stories aren't based on an existing event, even if they were retellings, which is more of a theory, should we not still include them for completions sake?

Absolutely include them. I personally put them at the very end of the timeline since they are takes being told in the future.

I'm personally reluctant to add them to the timeline because the audio is lifted directly from existing material and even the 'original' ones don't tell any more story than 'Darth Vader once flew around and shot some rebels.' I think they're just character spotlights more than anything else, and if I were to start including them because they include in-universe narration, that would also extend to many of the reference books etc. I've left off. They certainly don't add anything to the timeline, in my opinion.

I would love love to see you add the reference books in. I really have no idea where to place them.
