Yeah Disney Plus seems to define "MCU" as "Marvel Studios", which I think is fine. The shows aren't "essential viewing" for the overall MCU story. Even if they end up including characters from the shows in the movies, I'm sure it will be done in such a way that the audience doesn't need to go back and watch several seasons of one or more shows to understand what's happening. So I think it's fine that D+ isn't including the shows under the MCU banner.

I still feel like the circumstances of Gemma Chan is completely different given that her character in Captain Marvel was barely in the movie and she was covered in Kree makeup the entire time. While in Eternals she'll look very much like herself and have a bigger role. Compare that to someone like Alfre Woodard who looks very much the same in both her roles. I'm not saying that recasts confirm Marvel Television isn't canon, just that the Chan situation isn't the same thing.

I understand, but the show can't take place in August 2023. That's before Avengers: Endgame.

There is definitely a pocket dimension. The show is set in present day, but in Wanda's bubble, it is set in August 1950. S.W.O.R.D. are outside the pocket reality, but can still interact with it.

You realise that a pocket dimension isn't another universe, right?

This. Although I still wouldn't say that the bubble is August 1950. Like I've said before that calendar was probably done as a reference to Dick Van Dyke since it matches the year the show premiered. However, I don't really think it's necessary to try and specifically place the pocket dimension stuff on the timeline given that it's actually happening in the present day. In universe, that calendar could be inaccurate and just a part of Wanda's reality. I personally feel like 1950 is too early anyway when the main show being referenced in the episode was 11 years past that and there weren't too many sitcoms around at that point (I Love Lucy was still a year away).

They stated the first episode was in 1950 (in the pocket dimension). The 1970s episode references the 2011 Wizard of Oz, so Wanda is simply unreliable.

It's irrelevant anyway, as none of it is actually set in the past.

In the marketing, it was stated to be in the 1950s. Not like 1950s era sitcoms, which may go into the early 1960s, but the 1950s.

The second episode has better technology, suggesting a time jump. It's clearly intended for each episode to be a specific era.

But that's still not specifically the year 1950. Given that Dick Van Dyke was the main reference, I personally feel it's around the late 50s at most. I just don't see why they would pick a show that didn't air until 1961 if they wanted Episode 1 to be in the 50s. Episode 2 would be around mid-late 60s (when Bewitched aired). But like you said it doesn't really matter given this is all present day anyway.

1950 is the only year it fits in because of the calendar.

But like I said that calendar doesn't really have much weight as it could just be a fictional calendar part of the world Wanda created. I don't think they were specifically placing the episode in 1950 when they created the calendar. And I doubt that Wanda would know what days of the week fell on the calendar back in the 50s, so it makes sense that it's not specific to real world dates.
 
The pocket/bubble reality where Wanda is in seems to have mixed dates/situations from the MCU real 1950s, 1960s and other. August 23, 1950 (set officially in the 50s, not 1961 nor later) in Wanda's bubble has elements from 1953, mid 1950s and 1961.

Her 70s version will have elements from modern day such as 2013 Oz movie. But yes, it is definitely August 23, 1950.

But like I said I doubt that calendar was meant to confirm the episode is taking place in 1950 and could easily just be random with no merit to real world/MCU dates. I don't see the point in being so set on the episode being August 23, 1950. Especially since that was before sitcoms (especially the ones Episode 1 was based around) really took off. Also, Yakety Yak was released in 1958, another reason we should just assume Wanda's world shouldn't really have a set date.

You can add the WandaVision's episodes names since they got officialy named 5 days after their release!
Episode 1 is "Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience" and Episode 2 is "Don't Touch That Dial"!
