For the predator he could be from their universe, as in city of despair both Buffy and Angel gets brought there, so if more thatn 1 people can come from the same universe why not a 3rd one.

tbh i think it has to do with the comics, as all the comics of the series in that list falls under the Whedonverse banner.

A thought about Independence Day I had... let's say that the novel is correct in stating 3 billion people died in the 1996 war. Well, in Blade Runner, the Earth is overpopulated. You could justify it if we say that there's 10+ billion people in 1996 and only 3 billion died, it's no longer quite as insane. The major issue is, of course, still going to be the incredibly quick rebuilding of Los Angeles in Predator 2 (set only 1 year later), but it's translation into the Blade Runner version makes a lot more sense.

One point to take away from Event Horizon being connected to Soldier in a literal sense is that FTL travel is a new concept in the former, while in Soldier (and Blade Runner), this isn't really the case. Not sure the head-canon justification for that one.
