Halo

Now E, how far along are you now?

I haven't played it again. I haven't been able to put Tiger Woods 06 down lately.

I really honestly don't see the appeal in Halo. The gameplay is utterly bland and unimaginative, and really smacks of 'console shooter'. It's also shockingly linear, and I find the whole universe, the art design and concepts to be something of a dissapointment. Not to mention the whole 'ring-world' idea was ripped off from Consider Phlebas by Iain M Banks.

I suppose if you're just a console guy you wouldn't know what you were missing, but when you compare it to your just-as-highly-acclaimed PC shooters; Farcry, Half-Life 2, FEAR- you really notice just how amateur the whole game feels. Now Half-Life 2 is also a highly linear game, and rarely encourages you to do anything or go anywhere the designers didn't want you to, but nevertheless, it never feels like that. The atmosphere of the universe, the amazing cinematic feel (gorgeous voice acting), the level layout, the variety of objectives, areas and enemies, just the overall 'feel' of it all- it really puts a game like Halo into perspective. In the worst possible way.

If all of that sounds astonishingly superior, that's of course because I have much better taste than all of you combined.

True.

You and your Tiger Woods Golf.

Between that and the arcade game that comes with the 360 (I think it's called Hexic or something like that) it's a wonder I eat or sleep.

When Madden 07 comes out next month, forget it. I'll be back sometime in the spring. :D

Bungie ripped the Elite's mandables off of Predators, along with their plasma weapons.
They ripped the dropships, Flood, Space Marines, weaponary off of Aliens.

Bungie ripped off lots of people when they made Halo. Hell, Sarge is ripped off a character from Aliens so blatently that its sad.

That's one of the reasons I don't put it above other shooters, especially ones on PC.

I agree with you; unfourtunatly, not enough people are willing to spend money on a good computer (which is way worth the money,.) when they can spend $400 on a game console, $50 on a game, and have no installation time.

The worst thing I've ever seen justifying purchasing a 360 over a PC was when I saw, in a magazine, a price comparison between an overpriced gaming machine and a 360. It said it was the same end result whether your purchased either...except PCs can do so much more than 360s. Including porn.

True.

It is possible. Unless you don't like Nintendo- they're the only developers with good gameplay that you can't find on PC.

Yup.

Hell, I love Nintendo. I can't wait for Wii. Finally a console that isn't all about the latest graphics and core processors and microwave capabilities and high definition back scratching hoo-hahs.

Yeah, Hexic. Love that one, too.

Back on Halo-

To me, the gameplay isn't bland, it's fun. The story is cool and I just have fun overall. But I don't think it's one to go fanatic over like my brother and millions over. It's a good game and all, but there's still better.

Yeah, that's about how I feel about it. I didn't need it to be the greatest game ever or anything, especially for $20, so I'm happy with it.

Anyone played Halo Zero? It's a freeware game developed by some fans. It's a 2d side scrolling shooter, set before the first game, I believe. It's really fun and I just finished it (it's only a few levels long). You can also play multiplayer, but I haven't tried that yet.

A google search will find you where to download it.
