OK, so I saw it today. Bought it with my casino winnings (hit for 6 bills on a video slot). Meh. Was money I didn't have so . . . was no loss.

Better than Ultimate Avengers 2, I will say that.

They messed with his creation quite a bit. Here's a basic rundown as my mind recalls:

Stark is working with China to raise an ancient city from the Mandarin Dynasty. James Rhodes is the sight supervisor. Rebels have been sabotaging the sight since it started. but not killing anyone. Then, using the Liquid Steel tech, they raise the city and the rebels attack, killing EVERYONE but Rhodes, who they capture as bait for Stark to come to China to undo what he has done.

Subplot of Tony's interest in the company being taken over by the board and his Father does nothing about it.

Tony tells Pepper to take care of 3 particualr off shore accounts and then flys to China. In comes Tony in tanks, They are ambushed by the rebels and Tony is injured, a piece of shrapnel hitting his heart. The rebels use a mystic to save him and then Rhodes builds a heart & lung machine to keep Tony alive.

Oh yeah. It's kinda silly. Did I mention that yet?

They trim down the device until it looks like one of those green hologram medallions, but glued to his chest.

So Tony has brought this city up, he's alll f'd upon life support, and some Elementals are loose looking for the Mandarin's rings, Tony and Rhodes build the grey Iron Man Armor in like a week. Then they escape and learn that SHIELD is after them for selling arms to terrorists in China. They sneak into Stark Tower and Tony takes Rhodey to a secret room full of Iron Man armor. Yeah. He's been building it for years which is why he could build a suit in a week. They show pretty much all the armors, including Ultimate. Week plot device, I say.

So Tony goes all over the world in his Armor, in undersea armor, in gold & red armor, back to the armor he made as a prisoner and learns that he's part of a prophecy blah blah blah the girl is Mandarin's vessell, she gets the rings, brings Mandarin back from the grave blah blah blah Tony saves the day, buys his comanpy back the end.

It kinda sucked, actually. Sorry I just got sick of writing about a bad movie. The animation was OK, the CG in it was obvious and awful. Extras - alternate opening sequence should be watched first. The Doctor Strange preview is cool. Mordo and the other students Pre-Strange chasing down some demon creature and pre-accident Strange can see the fight. Mordo is bad ***. This looks good, to be honest.

C- For Iron Man ( It does have some cool parts but felt like the Avengers movies minus the rest of the cast!). B- for Dr. Strange Preview.

I'm going to buy this on Tuesday, because I support the format more than anything. I'll be getting the Hellboy and Conan ones too.

But does this take place in the same universe as Ultimate Avengers? Are there any references? If this is an origin story, probably not. I didn't read the spoilers, sorry. Is the voice actor the same?

This sounds horrible, based on the spoilers.

Certain elements I don't mind, like trying to tie in the Mandarin with Stark on a more personal level, rather than just making some Chinese warlord popping out of nowhere, and even the idea of Rhodes as a more 'professional' type as site supervisor... but it kind of stinks from thereon forward.

Unfortunately, Tony/Iron Man is played by Marc Worden, the same guy from Ultimate Avengers who incidentally happens to have some pretty ****ty voice acting skills even in previous work like The Zeta Project, Justice League and Teen Titans.

Also, Mandarin is played by Fred Tatasciore, who hasn't done a single piece of stand-out work in VO, cartoons and video games in his entire career.

Oh yeah, the voice acting is bad, but it does have some redeemiong qualities. And I left out a butt-load in my overview and I'm pretty sure it was some stuf that people will say was important but I wrote that late last night and my short term memory was influenced by an herb.

I would timeline this before Ultimate Avengers but it's hard to say if it's in the same "universe."

It's a definite buy to support the medium and blows the 90's cartoons away, lol. It's so bad it's good, I guess.

That fight with Madrin was weak though.

The voice acting was good IMO nadi sorta wished Rhodes would have doned the War Machine Armor

The Preview for the Dr.Strange movie was cool though

Andi loved the movie really and i didnt see the end coming

3 out of 5 in my book.

Wasn't this supposed to be an origin? What kind of origin was this?

I saw this on a bootleg, so I won't be buying this for some time. I'll get it for the sake of collection, but it wasn't nothing impressive. Who the hell is writing these scripts?

Most likely someone that has nothing to do with Marvel, Knows very little about the characters, & someone who could care less about how much they change the character to fit in their "version" of the story. They really should have a comic writer writing this or at least overlooking the project, instead of just putting the Marvel name on it.

You must realize that there are many creative types who know a lot about the characters they're working and care about how a character is changed and yet just happen to write absolute nonsensical garbage.

To be straight to the point, you can't assume that bad writers are people who don't care. Witness of course, the people who worked on 90s comics.

If it's not written by, it was at least overseen by Craig Kyle, who's in charge of all of Marvel's animated projects. And he is a comic book writer, he writes the X-23 and New X-Men stuff.

Well, I watched this today and I actually kind of liked it. I think this is the best possible format for comic book movies.

I thought the end was lame. How many times do we need to see a story about someone being posessed and about to kill the person they love only to remember who they are and snap out of it? Come on. Does anybody who writes a scene like that ever stop to think about how hackneyed it is? Aren't they ever embarrassed to use that device?

Oh well. Other than that, it had cool animation, the action scenes really worked, I actually like Tony's voice. I was a little surprised by the violence (guy getting shot execution-style in the back of the head) and nudity (covered up, sure, but still). Not that I'm complaining.

I'm looking forward to Dr. Strange and, hopefully Ultimate Avengers 3. I'll be getting The Amazing Screw-On Head and Hellboy and Conan too.

Poor Marvel. Try as they might....they can never get the animated projects to be anything more than weak, cash-driven, 80 minute fillers.

If you want to see animated feature film greatness----go watch DC's "Mask of the Phantasm"......or even "Return of the Joker". But if you want to be so bored outta your mind that you'd rather slit your wrist and bleed all over everything so you have to clean it up and give you something to do while watching your favorite comic character run around on screen----watch this or anything Marvel animation has put on DVD.

It's sad really. While this is leaps and bounds far better than Ultimate Avengers----it's still weak sauce when compared to some other animated DVDs.

The Dr.Strange clip did look good. I'd like to say that I'm excited---but given Marvel's track record---I can't get pumped.

Marvel---I'm gonna say this as serious as possible---call Bruce Timm. Just give it a shot. I'm not saying that you have to get into some 3-film deal with him........but at least try. Anything he gives us has got to be better than the stuff you guys are pouring out. Even Superman: Brainiac Attacks was better than this.

1.5/5

For shame Marvel........
