This is the sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball (Gamecube). The game is coming out on June 19th in Japan, and sometime in July (no date given) for N.A. and AUS.

-- Simple, Active Controls: Rookies and veterans alike will be hittin' it home in no time. Simply swing the Wii Remote controller like a bat, or use a pitching motion to test your strike power from the mound!

-- Live the Dream: Show your face at the plate; play as your Mii!

-- Play Ball! ...With Friends: Up to four players can challenge one another on a single Wii console. Go nine innings or try one of the minigames - including a home run contest!

-- Stadium Mania: Select from nine unique stadiums - everything from an ice-filled castle to an urban cityscape! Many stadiums can be acccessed day or night, allowing double-headers under the lights!

Dixie Kong wasn't in the previous game, so don't know how she isn't a new character, but here are new ones being brought to this version (which one is seen in the list posted above):

So R.O.B. will make another appearance, as will Baby Peach (Created for Mario Kart Wii- far as I know), and now they're creating Baby DK? Okay then...

I'm surprised that Baby Daisy (Mario Kart Wii) isn't also added.

More news:

Multi-Characters: Some released images show that characters that have different colors, such as the Shy Guys, can be played as separate characters. For example, The Hammer Bro and the Fire Bro can be on separate teams, just like a Red Shy Guy and a Blue Shy Guy could be separated.

So far, the characters that have been seen to have this ability are as follows:
