So will I be able to use my gamecube controllers for Wii games? Not all games obviously but maybe SSBB.

Super Smash Bros. isn't using the new control scheme. The Gamecube style controller is what it's being made for.

Yeah. I sure wouldn't use the Nunchuck for that game!

And now that my Gamecube keeps freezing on me (I accidently spilled some soda on it a couple months ago) I'm eagerly awaiting this even more and more. Next week, since I get paid tomorrow, I will go and reserve for a Wii and the Wii Zelda version just so I can make sure I get it.

Does anyoen know how much (typically) it costs to reserve a system? Or would that depend on the store? I got to Gamestop (only place where I buy my games).

Normally to reserve something at GameStop...you need to put down like 10%. But for the systems I believe you have to put down 20-25%. But don't quote me on that....

Oops. Too late. :p

But I'll be able to afford it.

Wii release

Somebody supposedly leaked some info too soon....The Wii release date in the U.S. will be Nov. 19th and sell for $250.00 ($249.99 or $249.95 more likely) and will come with Wii sports. Not the most exciting game but at least it comes with something. Also the games should retail for around $50.00 with something like 20-25 games at launch and 30 or so out by the end of the year. Nintendo should make the official announcement today.

I guess Japan gets the Wii on Dec 2nd with no Wii sports for a little cheaper.

Wasn't the Wii relase suppose to be on the same date worldwide? Or is it just The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that is (confirmed by Nintendo by the way)?
But that would be pretty stupid since it is confirmed by Nintendo that they will be relased on the same day in the US and if LoZ: TP for Wii is released before the actual Wii in Japan and EU then it would just be bad planning

Re: Wii release

I guess there is a chance that the information is false. The article I read was in the new york post. Nintendo might annouce something different today? I do think it's strange that I can't find anything about the European launch.

Re: Wii release

I'm quite excited about this; I was expecting a late October launch, but I don't honestly have the money that month, so it's a bit of a blessing.

Anyway, I don't mind it coming with Wii Sports, it looks like a fun little game, it's accessible to almost everyone, and it's the one launch title that I think really shows off the controller in a multitude of ways. It's the most logical game to come packaged with in my opinion, considering they're aiming for a mass market, non fanatic gamer market as well.

I'm awaiting the European launch date and price quite eagerly, but knowing the near extorniate price ranges for games here in the Netherlands (as an example, Mario Golf on the GC is STILL E60 {about $73 or so!}), I'm unfortunately expecting the Wii to come in at least E250 ($270), with games at E50 ($62). Looks like I might have to look to internet shopping for games at least.

EDIT: and no, the information is correct, according to all the sites I've been on this morning.

$250? Blech. I'll wait till it drops to $200, wich should be within a year. Or untill they do a better bundle like Twilight Princess. Wii sports doesn't intrest me.

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

Totally worth it compared to other systems. And I thought LOZ was coming out Nov 1st.

Never seen a system released in October. Always in late November to get the holiday season sales.

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

So it was just pointed out to me that I'll be getting my vacation pay (about a free $500) from work two weeks before the Wii comes out. Now I was concidering using it for a new computer, or a trip to Atlantic City (Big MTG GP that some people I know are hitting, then the casino's after) but now... I dunno.

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

We'll I'll be reserving mine real soon with also reserving the Wii version of Twilight Princess. I already had the GC version reserved, but going to give that to a friend as a late b-day gift.

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

So after a little research on Wii and LoZ: TP this is what I found out:

- Wii will not have a worldwide release (as posted before). It's November 19 for US and December 11 for Japan (no words on EU).

- The two different versions (GC and Wii) will not be released on the same day (in US). The Wii version will be a launch title for Wii so it will released on the same day (November 19). The GC version will not be released until December 11.

- The release date for the GC version MIGHT be November 26 in EU and the Wii version will be probably a launch title in Japan and EU too.

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

Gay. What happened to Nov 1st release on GC? *sigh* I hate Gamestop employees. They don't know **** about anything.

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

Hey, figured I would throw my opinion in the mix and this is NOT trying to debate with anyone....

XBOX360- pricey, nice graphics, but nothing I havent seen on my computer before. honestly, most, excluding like ONE title that comes to mind, I could play on my PC with better graphics, or at least so close that it wouldnt matter. I know someone said that no one likes to buy games on the PC, and this may be true for most people, but I would much rather play a game there (perhaps this is due to having a high end system, a 27" widescreen HD monitor....... and a son who hogs the tv with Bob the Builder, but thats besides the point)
In conclusion, do I think the 360 LOOKS cool? Yea, but sure as hell aint worth all the money to drop, although if I didnt have a sweet *** pc i might think differently...

PS3- So far, all I hear is blue ray, and there was talk about them banning the resell of games.... blue ray sounds cool (and purchasing the PS3 also a cheaper alternative) but I REALLY dislike the ban part. I also heard its gonna be pretty damn pricey, which is a big negative. Also to be honest, Sony and I arent on best terms atm.... PSP was medicore, nothing has come out worthwhile in a LONG time, and after TWO PS2's both crashing, I vowed not to buy another, so out of all the systems, this has the least chance of landing on my shelf.

Wii- The name IS pretty gay, but who f***in cares? I doubt many people will say "that name is really lame, Im never gonna play it..." and when it comes down to it, how "cool" is the "xbox360" or "playstation"?
Besides the point, as of now, I think the controller idea sounds really retarded, that was my first impression, but hey, i havent seen it in person yet, so i could be totally wrong.

As of now, I own an Xbox, which I love, and a gamecube. The gamecube was my sons, and to be honest, it looked like a good portion of the games sucked, or maybe were just too kiddy, but for the sole reason this system had RE 0,1, and 4, made this one of my favorite systems. I think we all know Nintendo isnt going anywhere soon, or even by 2008/09. They make games that are fun for all ages, and will as long as they have icons like donkey kong, metroid, mario or zelda, they will always be in the game.
Based on the past though, I predict the PS3 being on top again, but with the xbox360 and the ....well, u know the name, i think this could totally go either way. microsoft established with the xbox they can make a system, and now with some more experience in the field, i think they could pull off much better numbers than with the original, providing they get some more exclusive games (other than Halo), and I really hope they pull off some RPG's (since they were basically non-existant on the original).
Nintendo has obviously established themselves on the field, and their kiddie geared are a good bonus.... or can also be a minus, depends on ur age. This controller thing could also sway or disway alot of people, although Im sure if the concept is hurting numbers, they will have a regular controller and still do awesome.

Im actually wondering when Microsoft is going to produce a portable system of their own, since this seems to be the trend, and I would be interested to see this.

One thing I kinda am hoping to avoid with the next gen is console categorizing. What I mean is, if I want to play alot of good FPS, then i need xbox, or platform, gamecube, or rpg, ps2.... end of rant

Re: Nintendo Wii - prerelease news & discussion

Some new release dates for Wii:

- Japan Wii Release: December 2
- Europe Wii Release: December 8
- Australia Wii Release: December 9

And the worldwide release for Zelda GC:

- Twilight Princess GameCube release: December 11

- Zelda for Wii will be released at the same date as the launch of Wii in your region.

Edit: Some rumours have started up that the GC version of Zelda will ONLY be released in the US (after an article on IGN) but Nintendo has said nothing about this and no EU stores has removed Zelda GC from their release list so don't believe it (yet anyway).
