This thread is to serve as a revival of DIrishB's previous Askewniverse thread. With all due respect to DIB, there are a few things that I disagree with in regards to his timeline placing, and this thread will reflect my interpretations and/or interpretations that seem to be the consensus. This thread is also intended to be more thorough, and uniform with the other timeline threads on this board. As such, I'll be adding in Chapter titles and such where I can. Until I can go through everything with a fine-tooth comb, this is just a start. Dates from DIB's thread will serve as stand in dates until dtermined whether or not there's any reason to change them.

This post is reserved for Timeline Placement Reasoning:

View Askew Jay and Silent Bob Movies
Mallrats

According to the View Askew legend, packaged with DVD copies of Chasing Amy, Mallrats occurs the day after Julie Dwyer dies, and the day before Clerks. Clerks: The Lost scene suggests Julie's death is April 15th, 1994 which makes this movie April 16th. (NOTE: According to the legend, Mallrats occurs on Friday. In the real world, the 16th was Saturday.)

Clerks
According to the View Askew legend, packaged with DVD copies of Chasing Amy, Clerks occurs two days after Julie Dwyer dies, and the day after Mallrats. Clerks: The Lost scene suggests Julie's death is April 15th, 1994 which makes this movie April 17th. (NOTE: According to the legend, Clerks occurs on Saturday. In the real world, the 17th was Sunday.)

Chasing Amy
According to the View Askew legend, Chasing Amy takes place 2 years after Clerks. The opening sequence of this film also includes a ton of promo for Banky, Holden and their "Bluntman and Chronic" comic. Some of these can still be viewed on the View Askew website. Seeing as the most recent instances come from March/Spring 1996, that seems to be the setting. There may be something more concrete in the movie, but I'll need to revisit it.

Dogma
There's plenty of props in the film that suggest 1998. One newspaper is specifically dated April 15th. (See the 13:16 mark of this video). My DVD isn't working properly, so I'm unable to section off specific days any further at the moment. Depending on whether or not the Chasing Dogma comic suggests a shorter time frame between films either Chasing Amy or Dogma may be subject to move. Currently leaning towards it being Chasing Amy as the dates there are seemingly less concrete.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
March 21st 2001 date can be seen on a clapboard for Good Will Hunting 2 (00:34). Other dates are gotten by working backward from there. We're told what day of the week the movie starts and ends on, and these days don't match the real world calendar dates. The March 20th entry might be a bit off. We're told it's the day after the March 21st entry, but while some characters are stating it's night time, when we get to the girl gang (who were watching the same news report) it's seemingly day time. For now, I'm just chalking this up to time zones.

Clerks II
Dante and Emma's wedding is 3 months away, in January of 2007 (19:51)

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot
Jay suggests that it's been 25 years since Clerks. There's probably other evidence to back this up. I'll add it when the home release is available.

Other Movies
Zack and Miri Make A Porno

Kevin Smith has confirmed that Justin Long reprised the role of Brandon Saint Randy in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. This movie is set around Thanksgiving/Black Friday, but since we know the days of the week are different in the Askewniverse, the exact date can't be tacked down from that alone. Zack and Miri attend their 10-year high school reunion as part of the class of '98, setting this film in 2008.

Tusk
Date is based on this prop from Yoga Hosers. I lent out my BluRay copy to a friend a while back, and it wasn't returned before I moved across the country, so this is the best I've got for the time being.

Yoga Hosers
Miss McKenzie returns in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Current date is based on release date.

Scream Franchise
Scream

Scream 2 specifically states it's 2 years after the first one.

Scream 2
The movie marquee at the start of the film says it's April 12th 1997 (02:20)

Scream 3
Jay and Silent Bob appear in this movie. Some theorize that it's part of their Hollywood trip in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but seeing as that film features the filming of the Askewniverse's "Scream 4" it seems unlikely. This does open the door to both "Scream" and "Stab" franchises existing in-universe, but there are real world instances of similar movie franchises, so I don't think it's much of a problem. The current date is based on the Scream Wiki, and not very conclusive.

Scream 4
The current date is based on the Scream Wiki, and not very conclusive.

So the Scream franchise, the True North Trilogy and Madness in the Method is in this universe. Might want to add Drawing Flies too. I've looked and I can't see anything dictating Zack and Miri Make A Porno as part of this universe, I only see it being called the second View Askew Production not connected.

Madness in the Method is a bit iffy. Looking at the trailer, it's about Jason Mewes being type cast as Jay, but I'm also seeing reporting that the characters of Jay and Silent Bob pop in as the characters. This could work seeing as most of the Askewniverse movies exist within their world as films, but I've yet to watch this one so I'm not so sure about it.

Zack and Miri got brought in via Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Justin Long reprises the role of Brandon Saint Randy, and while he wasn't named on screen, this was confirmed by Smith (2:50)

What about Drawing Flies?
Much of the cast of Mallrats featured in a simultaneous View Askew Productions film titled, Drawing Flies. A couple of actors portray the same characters, with Kevin Smith credited as Silent Bob. Smith also wore the same wardrobe within the two films.

Sounds like it's possible. I havent ever seen it, but I think it's all clipped up on youtube so I'll try to give it a look

I just scanned through the youtube clips and cant find Smith's scene, I think they were all uploaded when youtube only allowed videos to be so long, so it looks as if it's not entirely the full movie. Everything I'm seeing though says he's referred to as John within the narrative, so for now I think it's safe enough to pass over it until a more concrete connection is established

My copy of Chasing Amy was missing the insert that's supposed to come with it, so I didn't know this existed until recently. Was able to get ahold of a copy from Goodwill, so here's a scan. Looks like Mallrats was officially retconned to be the day before Clerks (so Randall is just wrong about Julie having died the night before in that film). Also, the mention of it being Saturday in Mallrats apparently only shows up in the extended cut, so that works out. This also solidifies Chasing Amy being 2 years after Clerks/Mallrats, so that makes me feel better about the 94/96 dates (some folks put the first 2 in 95 for some reason.)

94 also works best with Dante's graduation. Since the legend marks early graduations (See: Tricia Jones), this means Dante was 17 or 18 when he graduated in '88, giving him a 1970 or 1971 birth year. He's 22 in the film, so 1970 doesn't work, but 1971 does if we assume that he hasn't passed his birthday yet. This means he graduates at 17 years old, which confirms he has a summer birthday and thus would be turning 23 after the events of Clerks (In April).

Amazon description from the Drawing Flies bluray suggests Smith is in fact Silent Bob. It looks like it was released through Smodcast so that may be the official word.

For the sake of completion, should we add YouTube videos where Smith and Mewes reprise their roles?

There are probably more, but I just came across these two

Removed Madness in The Method from the "other movies" section. Watched it last night and any footage of Jay and Silent Bob was archive from the other films. Kevin Smith plays himself in the film and directly says he created the character of Jay due to inspiration from Jason Mewes so unlike how some of the films exist within the askewniverse that cant be the case here.

Well, even if this thread it's abandoned, the synopsis says that Scream (2022) takes place 25 years after Scream (1996) AKA 1995, so 2020, and since a telephone on the film says "9/23", it should take place around September 2020, like on September 24th i think so

I wouldn't really consider the Scream films as part of the universe. At one point a Clerks VHS can be seen confirming that movie exists as part of the Scream universe. I think the cameo from Scream 3 wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Especially when we see them making a Scream sequel (rather than what would be Stab) in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. BTW, here's my personal timeline for Scream:

Scream- Late September 1996. We can see a calendar for September 1996 at Stu's home and it makes sense they got the costume at a time when costumes like Ghostface would be easily available and hard to trace (close to Halloween).

Scream 2- April 1998. The movie mentions how it's been a couple of years since the original. While there's an April 1997 date on the marquee, this is just from when the movie was filmed. I do feel however that the month can still work.

Scream 3 Late 1999. Roman mentions to Sidney that he found Maureen 4 years ago, a year before the events of the first movie. The movie is placed late in the year in order to give time for Stab 2 to release and for Stab 3 to begin production (remember Stab was released in April 1998).

Scream 4- Late September 2011. The movie falls on the anniversary of the original murders and in Scream (2022), it's mentioned these events happened in 2011. Making the movie 15 years after the original.

Scream (2022)- Late September 2021. The reporter at the end of the movie says it's almost to the exact day of the original murders and a phone shows the date of 9/23 at one point. Making the movie 25 years after the original.

Any chance this gets updated to include the new scream, clerks 3 and drawing flies

Heck, throw in the Scream TV series too. It's set in a different part of the world so it wouldn't have any connections, and the third season is a separate story that literally features the Ghostface mask and voice.

1. Mallrats and Dogma exist as in-universe movies in the View Askewniverse. Why not Clerks? Heck, Clerks: The Animated Series implies that both Clerks and an animated series exist, although that series is very meta and confusing.

2. I didn't see them state that they were making a Scream movie in the actual film. Let's say they were, the Woodsboro Murders are public domain. Why can't there be Scream and Stab movies in the Scream universe?

3. You say not to take it seriously, but Jay literally called him "Silent Bob" AND they appear on the credits as Silent Bob/Kevin Smith and Jay/Jason Mewes, meaning that they are 100% the same characters. Whether they are the same versions from their films is the question, but I don't really get any indication otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I see View Anskew, Scream, Zack and Miri and True North as separate film series. Logically they should occur in the same universe, but they don't crossover. It does mean that the victims in Scream would go to a Heaven with a God that looks like Alanis Morissette though, lol. Don't overthink it.
