Ok so if any of you have been following my Wizard World Dallas Thread, you'd know that I picked up Scalped while there. Well, about three hours ago, while on lunch, I finished the first trade.

Wow. Dare I say better than the Boys? Ennis is hardcore, hands down, but his plot development is slow compared to Scalped. I mean damn, it just starts off fast, somewhat confusing but that gets cleared up soon. It's just a crazy and fun read wiht no apologies through red man's country. I highly recommend it.

The story revolves around Dashiell Bad Horse, a full blooded Indian who comes home after being gone for 15 years. Him alone is enough reason to read it. That and his handy nunchucks which have yet to make a reappearance and when they do, all bloody glory will rain down on us.

I won't get into spoilers just yet until more people have gotten hooked to this little rock of delicious crack like Doom, Ourchair and myself have done. i probably start getting the issues after reading this and then trades because it's to damn good to trade wait. Let me just say though, i think there is a bit of incest unknowingly going on before our eyes.

yeah so, today is comic shipping day so go get it while you're getting that piece of steaming "2 girls 1 cup" that has befallen the Ultimates. BOOYAH!

I tried the first issue but couldn't really get into it. The art was distracting.

Likewise. But then I bought the first TPB 'cos it was cheap, and found I really enjoyed it and will definitely be collecting this one in paperback.

When I think about it, there are a few series that I now consider some of my favourites that really didn't impress me with their first issue/arc, until I re-read them in a different frame of mind/mood.

I've been picking up this series from the first issue. Along with Wasteland (Oni Press) and some Ultimate titles, those are my monthlies.

I've enjoyed seeing how the plot developed over the past year. I think only a few weeks have passed in Scalped time, but a whole lot of story is crammed in. Its also got some very interesting allusions to Native American history and culture, as well as that of the white European descendants in contrast. Its brutal, sad, fast-paced, and brilliant. I love this title.

Ok...my thoughts on Scalped...

IT.****ING.ROCKS!

There's no ifs, ands or buts about it. It melts faces. It's that hardkore. So hardkore that it HAS to be spelt with a K.

I'll admit that the first couple of issues didn't really interest me much. I mean yeah, there's some badass named Dashiel, walking around a trashy rez with a pair of nunchukus....but when you read the rest of it, it's no different than any other "in your face" Vertigo title. But then something magical happens....you get pulled in by the underhanded dealings of the casino mob boss. The question of whether Dashiel and his mother will ever reconcile? Just what is Dashiel's plan in all this? The list goes on.

Jason Aaron's no-holds-barred writing literally slaps you in the face, sleeps with your girlfriend, and then dares you to do something about it. And while I'm not a huge fan of the art.....it does match the book perfectly.

If you're not getting this in single issues....then you at least need to be getting this in trade.

I enjoyed Volume 1, but I'm hoping it picks up a bit in Volume 2.

I think Dashiel being an FBI agent is the only thing that really makes the series "stand out". Without that, it would just feel like another crime book, except with Indians and some slightly preachy stuff about the sad state of the reservations.

i want to see the nunchucks make an appearance.
Yes.

I was pissed that we got to see Dashiel doing his whole badass nunchuk schtick in the first issue and then they just made him all...normal.

I want to see him **** up some mother****ers.

i love in the following issue where he demands his nunchucks back and they just disregard his demand. i just love how they brush him off at times. they're so bad ***.

This series is so good, I don't have the patience to wait for trades.

I think Lincoln Red Crow has got to be my favorite character in the series so far.

the crazy guy with the horse...im pretty sure he did the deed at the end of the series and i think he was one of the culprits involved in killing that guy. im also sticking to my guns that dashell and his love interest, i forget her name, are in fact brother and sister.

This books is just so amazing.

I read #13 last night and it almost break my heart at the end.

Bad Horse is comics' new official badass. I wanna torture someone like that too.

I also love how #12 was a solo issue but provided the perfect segue between the old arc and the new arc. I haven't decided on whether or not I like the guest artist. His art is almost exactly like the normal artist so it's hard to tell between the 2 of them.
