Spore: Possibly the Greatest Game Concept Ever

It's going to turn out that the "game" is waiting for the game to come out.

Now that's high-concept.

It's the greatest birthday present.... ever

(the release date is September 7th, my birthday ^_^)

It's becoming popular to use the Creature Creator to recreate classic characters.

Spore (Discussion)

So if you haven't heard of this game that has been in development for about six years it is an evolution simulator... and it is fan-freaking-tastic!!
Seriously, if you don't have this game download the trial for just the creature creator! (You can find it here )
Anyway... I have been blown away by the complexity and simplicity at the same time. I love it. It's sooooo good. So anyway, get the game and then post Spore username so we can all share critters!

My Spore User Name: AnTwanRumbo

I got it.

The customization is amazing, really. The amount of things you can do with any of the creators is incredible. As for the game itself. . .so far, it seems a bit overly simplistic. It's fun to fool around in for a little while, but gets a bit repetitive after awhile. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I do wish that the game itself had a bit more depth.

Not to say it's bad, however. It's a fun romp when you want something cute and fun to play. But, don't expect a very deep experience. At least, not until the last part of the game.

Ever since this game was presented at the GDC way back, I have to say that I'm very happy that Will Wright is pushing games where they should go...

...but I'm also annoyed by the fact it takes Will Wright to think of going in this direction.

Procedural content has been around since the 80s, and Chris Crawford has been harping on the industry's focus on data/content in game design rather than on process intensity for a long time...

So I kind of feel like it's absurd for people to call this a 'leap of genius' when I think of this more as common sense from A genius.

I want to get the iPhone Spore game but I have some kind of automatic brain function that prevents me from paying $10 for an app.

This game is fun until you get to the space level, then you spend most of your time running back to where you just came from because of pirates or hostile aliens. You can't get anything done dammit!

All of the creation tools are nice though. I hope they make some expansion kits for this as far as tools, though, because even with the broad selection of pieces and parts it seems like there's only so much you can do.

Yeah, between Origins and Force Unleashed, my sense of righteous indignation has flared far more than it should.

I LOVE Force Unleashed on the iPhone. I wish it were a little smoother but it's great.

I bought the iPhone version the other day because it was on sale for 3 bucks or something like that. I played the first 4 levels of it and really liked it.

The only real complaint I can come up with is that it's too easy to get killed because you r little spore guy doesn't stay in the middle of the screen, so you run into a lot of things unintentionally.
