The All-New Dreamcasting Adaptations #2: Ultimate Central And The Awesome Remake

Bass

Nexus of the World
1) The winner of the last round becomes the moderator of the round, and thus gets to choose the property or story in question to be adapted. The new round is now to be any adaption from any medium. Comics, books, remakes, video games, etc.

2)They must name core characters to be cast, which should be no less than four, but no more than 9. It is up to the moderator if they should include optional castings. YOU MUST CAST THE CORE CHARACTERS CHOSEN OR YOUR ENTRY WILL NOT BE VALID. There can be an acceptation to the rule if the moderator allows certain characters to be switched. Say for example the round is Teen Titans. The classic Titans are chosen to be cast, but someone wants to cast the current Titans. It is up to the moderator to decide.

3) You may not use actors who have played the role before in the same medium before. Voice talents may not reprise their role, nor can film ones.

4) After the set amount of days, the round is declared closed. People will vote via PM and send it to the moderator, who will count the votes and declare winner. Like the Ultimatization Game, you CANNOT vote for yourself.

5) The winner declared gets to choose the property in the next round.

Righty-kokey, my friends. I, like much of you, was not happy with the latest installment of Dr Jones' series; INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. So here's what you gotta do:

Remake Indiana Jones.

Treat this like I did for my entry in the "Spielberg/Lucas pitch" dreamcasting round: Indiana Jones and the Resurrection of Babel

Now, here's what I did - I treated it like CASINO ROYALE. It was like when they redo Bond. All the actors change, but essentially, this movie could (if they were the right age) be done as just the next film with the same cast. There is nothing inherently special about CASINO ROYALE that means Sean Connery couldn't play the role if he was young enough.

So - it's 1930s and Doctor Jones has to save the world again.

Basically, you MUST do the following:

Title - Indiana Jones and the "TITLE" You gotsta pick one. Make it evocative and super cool.
Indiana Jones - You have to cast this guy. And no, you can't pick Nathan Fillion.

Now, here's where it's up to you. You don't need a full cohesive plot, just the title is all the premise you need, but every Jones film has these core characters and I want you to fill them out as appropriately as your film needs:

The Girl - Marion, Willie, Elsa Schneider - my one was "Diaspora Song". This is the love interest. Marion was dark and reckless and cause problems by being headstrong and stubborn, Willie was a glamour girl who caused problems by being completely useless, and Elsa was an undercover Nazi spy.
The Villain - This is the big bad of the movie. Belloq in RAIDERS, Mola Ram in TEMPLE, Donovan in CRUSADE, and Irina Spalko in SKULL. My choice was for "Alexander Midas". Feel free to cast his subordinates if you wish; characters like the Gestapo guy in RAIDERS or Mac in SKULL. For example, I made two: Balthazar Untergehen and Ulysses Cliffhanger. You only have to cast one villain, but you're more than welcome to cast more.
The Sidekick - This is Indy's best friend; Sallah, Shortround, Henry Jones Sr, and Mutt. I decided to recast Johnny Depp as Sallah.

The point is - you can recast anyone you want or create new characters. The only thing is - you gotta create a villain because they're ALL dead. Can't reuse them.

So to summarize:

Title
Indiana Jones
The Girl
The Villain
The Sidekick

So it's light on the number of things to do, but those things are more creatively intense than usual. :)

Indiana Jones new trilogy.

Indiana Jones and the Shroud of Turin.

The first of the trilogy and the story involves Indiana searching for the Shroud of Turin. This film’s theme is very much finding yourself. It is done like that as this film will be finding it’s footing too at the same time. It starts off a 3 story arc that will be like the originals but with more depth to them.

However like I believe all trilogies should have, this been the first film will stand on it’s own

Key movie points

  • This movie helps to establish the relationship between Indiana and Nelson Rockwell as a father son type.
  • This movie starts the will they won’t they with Maria Perez

Indiana Jones and the Pyramid of Tutankhamun
This movie now that the key storylines and relationships have been set turns the action up. I picked the Pyramid of Tutankhamun as it can be a huge Pyramid filled with traps like what we are use to e,g Arrows flying through the air.

Key movie points

  • This film helps us see Indiana in the more fearless hero type role but will also help get across his fear of snakes as a room will be full of them
  • The movie will end with Indiana and Maria kissing
  • The ending will also hint at a big main villain ready for third film.

Indiana Jones and the Holy Lance.

This film is about answers. the Holy Lance signifying that as looking for it is in a way searching for religious answers. This ends the entire arc and wraps up everything in a conclusion that will make the journey worth it.

Key movie points

  • Eddie’s story comes to end with him been shown as top of his classic
  • Nelson reveals himself as the guy behind everything

  • Indiana and Maria get married at the end of the movie

Cast

Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones – James Van Der Beek – This is my choice and always for an Indiana Jones. I’ll I’ll explain., Like I mentioned last time the way I see it is, if someone like Tobey Maguire can do action scenes in Spider-man anyone can (in a good way) , So instead of looking for someone who was good at action I looked for someone who can show intelligence , Indiana was after all a professor. So if you pick a guy who can’t show the intelligence you are loosing an important aspect of the character.

This was my thinking. Plus he has a kind of young Harrison ford vibe going on which is great. He is my only choice. Plus in rebooting and starting it again I figure you need someone young despite Harrison been 40 in when he was in it.

Maria Perez – Judy Reyes – I wanted someone who was attractive but could also play a intelligent feisty woman. That is where Judy Reyes comes in. This character I see as been able to challenge him and make him rise to the occasion. The character herself will be almost a female version of Indiana Jones that Shroud of Turin it will set up the chemistry and the “will they won’t they” dynamic and then they will get together in the sequel.

Edward “Eddie” Gray – Angus T. Jones – This is “the side kick” Only I don’t see him been quiet like the others. I see him as a kid in Indiana’s class who is failing and has no parents to help him out so Indiana adopts him by the end of the first film. He is a lazy genius. By that I mean he can be very smart if he tries but never does. His story arc involves him having to try to help out Indiana and at the end of the third film his life will be together.

Professor Nelson Rockwell – John Glover – The main bad guy of all 3. He is the professor that taut Indiana everything he knew and in many ways is like a father to him. He is just like Indiana but he is what if indiana was on the wrong side. He pulls the strings in movies 1 + 2 before revealing himself as the mastermind in 3. He will using his findings to try and get the relics to sell on the black market. He will challenge Indiana in every possible way.

Richard Sheppard – Harrison Ford : The villain in Shroud of Turin. Mainly he’s there for a heads up but he’s also there as a different character to help establish this is a new series starting from the ground up not a remake, prequel or sequel. This character is a arrogant old gang leader in charge of “the Dragons” He will play the part pretty much like he played Indiana and Han solo but on the opposite side. He’ll die at the end of the first movie.

Nicholas “The Scourge of the east” Ronson – George Clooney – The next main villain in movie two. Think his character in “From Dusk Till Dawn” if he was really a villain. He is in charge of “The dragons” after Richard Sheppard is killed and is shown to be the type of man who gets off on torturing others. He will take Indiana to his limits and help him realise he is only human.

Just a quick cursory glance Mole: Love Clooney and Glover as villains. And I the title I like is "The Holy Lance". "Shroud of Turin" and "Pyramid of Tutankhamun" are a little dry. It's not "Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail" or "the Ark of the Covenant". It's a bit more evocative. "The LAST CRUSADE." "The RAIDERS of the LOST Ark." "The Temple of DOOM."

The Holy Lance I like. And great villains. Will give it a proper read later. :)

I so thought this was going to be a dreamcast about Ultimate Central.

I am now sorely disappointed.

Thanks dude. As far as names go I couldn't come up with anything I thought sounded right so I named it after the thing he was looking for or exploring and decided things like "the Shroud of Turin" and "Pyramid of Tutankhamun" sounded bold and epic enough to work (one of the reasons I picked the items)

But I'll be intrested to see what you think when you do get a chance to read it all.

Indiana Jones and the Shadows in the Steam

The first act is reminiscent of James Bond movies, with Indy taking control of a German Zeppelin during a bombing raid on London. The Zeppelin is carrying agents of Ahnenerbe, Hitler's study society for Intellectual Ancient History, who have apparently stolen a reliquary containing the pinky finger of the 9th century monk Peter Bartholomew. Indy and the Nazis are soon blown off course, and wind up in a corporate city-state filled with Gothic skyscrapers.

This society is divided into two rigid groups: one of planners and thinkers, who live high above the city in luxury, and another of workers who live underground toiling to sustain the lives of the privileged. The beautiful and angelic figure Maria takes up the cause of the workers, advising them not to start a revolution and instead wait for "the Mediator," who will reunite the two halves of the city.

Indy meets the benevolent Maria, who believes him to be the Mediator. The tired archaeologist reluctantly agrees to help her cause. In the mountains he finds a Nazi scientist named Fritz von Drexler von Langsta, who has stolen the ruby amulet that has brought the city together for ages and is using it to power a steam engine machine that will cause mass destruction.

So pretty much, Indy steals back the ruby and brings it to the heart of the city, and everything goes back to normal because people realize their selfishness and everyone's happy again and Indy clicks his heels together and realizes that there's no place like home. The end.

Pretty much everything's been done - the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, the Crystal Skulls, Bass' Tower of Babel movie....

Indiana Jones - James Purefoy
The general trustee on the governing board of the Archaeological Institute of America, North America's oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology. Jones assists them in their mission of increasing public awareness of archaeology and preventing looting and the illegal antiquities trade, and also leads a double life as a globetrotting explorer and mercenary.

I like Langsta's cast.

Agreed. It's intimidatingly good. Especially the Bowie part. Just plain awesome.

I don't know why Roger Moore isn't filling in as Marcus Brody, though.

Thanks. I don't think it's that good though.

Cheers Langsta. And Proj... no. You can do Indy 5 but you have to recast everyone.

The point of this is a remake, not a sequel. Sorry.
