Didn't **** any of those *****es
They are now my favorite band
So funny story.
I just got into the Beatles less than two years ago. I had heard a lot of their earlier stuff (I wanna hold your hand, a hard day's night, etc) but none of their later (and better) stuff. So I bought Beatles 1 probably a year and a half ago and listened to it through and fell in love. The first time I listened to Lady Madonna, I thought to myself, "this song kind of sounds familiar..." and found myself wanting to insert the line "Got to find the reason that my money's all gone" into the song. But much to my confusion that line isn't in the song.
Fast Forward to today: I was listening to some old 90s stuff and "What I Got" by Sublime came up and that line ("Got to find the reason why my money's all gone") was in the song. And then I realized that the song has the exact same melody as Lady Madonna. Sublime unabashedly stole the tune to Lady Madonna!
That's all.
Well of course I'm right...
and by the way, you were clearly listening to the wrong 70s stuff.
Get some Simon and Garfunkel, Michael Jackson/The Jackson 5, Queen, the Who, Boston, the Eagles, the Police, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the Grateful Dead, etc.
Although, the only artist there I would classify as pop is Michael Jackson.
I grew up on that stuff. It's what my dad listened to all the time.
I love The Who - I saw them during the Quadrophenia tour in 1997.
Look who's in the new My Chemical Romance video...Grant friggen Morrison

Cut me some slack here. I put this in the internet worthy videos thread.
A few years ago my mom got one of those Time-life collections called AM Gold. It's a series that runs from 1962-1979 - a disc for each year then a ton of compilations like early 60s, mid-60s, etc. that seem to collect extra stuff they couldn't fit on the year-based discs. There are about 35 of them altogether - she had around 12 or so of the discs and I found a torrent containing the rest of them.
Soon after I organized and converted them I started the laborious task of listening through each and ever disc. Laborious because, while I grew up on and love 60's pop/rock, the 70s discs are almost impossible to sit through. It's all crap. Once in a while you get a rock song or two but many of them are terrible pop/soft rock. It really is some of the worst music ever made. The 70s were terrible for music. Pop, anyway.
I'm almost done. I've got about 5 songs left and I'm finishing them up tonight. I'm so proud of myself.
