Ultimate Fantastic Four #23 Discussion (Spoilers)

She blinded them with science.

"Eh". I didn't even think the mom reveal was all that thrilling. Hopefully, the Sub Mariner plot will have something much more interesting than what happened in Cross-Over.

The 'mom' reveal better be good because it is making me nervous.

Especially considering Mommy's reaction upon seeing her children for the first time in 15 years.

"Hello my little darlings. How's life been treating you the past fifteen years?"

That's all she has to say? Man, the next issue better be good with a real good story about how this whole mess began.

as an aside, the slack jawed expression of Sue on that final panel is hilarious. And slightly pornographic. I'm pretty sure this is not what Land was shooting for, though. But I find the wide eyed expression of Johnny in that same panel much better. If that expression had been at the forefront and sue's in the background, it would have been a better panel.

That's the problem I have with lands work. He seems to just copy 'model' poses and adjust them a little. And that image is a really bad adaptation of one of those gormless models that we're supposed to find attractive and so many men do because they like women to act like innocent little girls when in all reality they are hideous heartless beasts.

I don't rate land. He copies.
(Mind you, so does Hitch on a lot of close ups. Hell, a lot in general, but he dos it better. Most of the time. We can ignore the Brad Pitt Thor and the crushed face or Wasp in U2 #6 for a moment)

Jae Lee? I thought his art was good on the Annual, even if the story wasn't.

Not I, just not a fan of his art. Its too...convoluted? Its just often hard to digest, and often doesn't do a good job of illustrating the action of the story itself, least in my opinion. His art just makes the story often hard to follow in my opinion.

I agree, but therefor the art still can be beautiful ?

My problem with Land is that his art is fine and dandy in illustrating the spectacular aspects of the story: zombies, explosions, stretching and such... but his character work suffers from the stiff facial posing.

Which means sure, Reed looks great when he's using his powers and so does everyone else, but they've got like a limited number of expressions does little to convey any kind of emotion or character. Reed seems to have like three different facial expressions in the entirety of Crossover.

I think we were talking about Jae Lee. But that's off-topic anyway.
