X-Men (Film Series) - Timeline

While I'd normally agree, out of the 5 or 6 comics released for the first two films, that's the ONLY one that fits, and only in terms of continuity. It's tone and art certainly don't reflect the film series, and considering EVERY other comic released for the first couple films doesn't fit, I think its safe to assume the one which can fit into continuity isn't canon merely because it can be, when every other one in that series doesn't fit.

My point is the earlier comics were obviously cash-ins as opposed to canon extensions of the story, including the Nightcrawler story.
Eh, I guess I see your point, but from a completionist mentality I have a hard time throwing it out until there's continuity issues. I guess I'll just have to keep it in mind as a "second teir of canon" and just chalk it up to a mental note that it's there and leave it off of the actual thing.

I understand the completionist mind-set all too well, and have only recently taken to accepting some things don't fit, or even if they do fit, aren't meant as canon.

I look at it like this: if a series of comics, like say #1-50 of a given series, didn't fit within another series' canon (even if 49 issues did but one didn't), ideally, from a canon point of view, it kind of negates the entire series from that established canon. While the X2 prequels are different one-shots, they all fall under the same "series", as in a series of one-shot prequels related to X2.

I guess that kinda makes sense. I guess it could sorta be set up as a multiverse kinda thing though. I.E. main canon (like what we've already got on the established timeline) and then an original trilogy only timeline (including the prequel comics, and non-canon games). I'm not gonna take the trouble to map that all out, but it could be done.

On a second note, I added tenative placements for Deadpool, The Wolverine 2 and Apocolypse.

Finally got a copy of The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition. Will update my timeline as soon as my brother stops hogging the TV my PS3 is hooked up to.

I watched The Wolverine after Ice said it was actually pretty good, unlike Wolverine Origins. And....well, it was pretty good, unlike Wolverine: Origins.

The Silver Samurai suit was kind of silly but at least it was decently done and not as corny as the concept.

My dumb self still hasn't even opened my Wolverine Blu-Ray (I probably should soon.....) but, this just came out recently so we probably oughta check the timeline against it. It seems that X3 actually happens in 06, but other than that I don't think much else was off.

I posted it over at the X-Men: DOFP thread, but forgot about this thread.

Notice Wolverine is at the Berlin wall protest in 1988 and Storm at the South African reform in 1991.

Ugh. Why are they killing characters off screen? Especially Kelsey Grammer's Beast. That was the best thing in X-Men: The Last Stand.

May occur on screen too. But i doubt Fox would drop major spoilers like that. May have just not been able to negotiate contracts with the actor and thought they needed to explain his absence.

Why not just say they're in a camp then? I'm seriously starting to think we're getting a soft reboot with this film.

Interesting. I updated the timeline to reflect that, and made a few other changes. That's actually the first instance of specific placement for any of the X-Men films from the original trilogy, so that helps concretely place that trilogy around 2005 - 2006. And since The Wolverine occurs 8 years later, that places it in 2014 and the post credit scene in 2016. Thus, apparently Wolverine has been with Xavier, Magneto, and the mutant resistance for about 7 years by the time Days of Future Past begins.

Nice, didn't even notice that.

Man, you complain entirely too much.

Why not just say they're in a camp then? I'm seriously starting to think we're getting a soft reboot with this film.

You're only just now figuring that out? Of course this film will serve as a means of rebooting the franchise. With the actors from the original trilogy tiring of playing their characters (specifically Jackman as Wolverine), and the heavy time travel elements and changing history aspect of DoFP, it's a guarantee they'll use the events of this film to alter the timeline (or reboot, but in a way that respects and continues the storylines from the previous films).

As for why they killed them off instead of saying they're in a camp, it's for the stakes. It helps paint a picture of the world at that point.

I'm tired of crappy movies based on things I like. Also it's not the first time I brought up the reboot. I said that I read it would create a new timeline remember?

so, as far as timeline creating purposes, would it be.....

Timeline one: Origins Wolverine, X Trilogy, The Wolverine, DofP (Present)
Timeline two: First Class, DoFP (Past)

or does First Class (and maybe Wolverine) belong on both timelines? and things just branch off at DoFP (Kind of like Ocarina of Time on the Zelda timeline).

I think as of right now there is one timeline. When Wolverine goes back in time in DOFP, it will cause a new timeline to split off, which may or may not include some element of the films that are now in continuity. After DOFP is over, the only films that are definitely in continuity will be the first part of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (up to when he walks away from Team-X, I'm guessing), First Class, and the 'Past' part of DOFP.

Bryan Singer Talks ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Days of Future Past’ Connection “[The 'Apocalypse' movie] won’t necessarily create an alternate universe [like the comic], but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with,” admits Singer.

Singer likely won't be playing with any future X-Men film elements due to his allegedly forcing an underage guy to "play" in the late 90's.

Wonder if Fox can get Vaughan to come back for Apocalypse, and if not who they'll hand the reins to.

Here you go. I may have missed some post-credit scenes (I only caught them in Last Stand and Origins), still haven't seen The Wolverine yet so the time markers are left blank on those, put Fantastic Four's placement in 2015 due to release date, and placed X-Force there as well until further information comes along. I kinda want to check out the tie-in comics to see if any of them could possibly fit (I mean, the films already have so many continuity errors, what's a few more?). I kept with your dates for the most part, but if I notice anything while rewatching that makes the dates seem odd I'll mention it.
