Cue the theme to CSI: Miami, "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who... Because nobody asked for it! Because I suggested it to VVD! Because VVD demanded I make it real! The first ever Dreamcasting SPIN OFF! Enter Dreamcasting: The Remake Edition!

In this spin-off of Dreamcasting, no comic properties are used. Instead moderators take existing Hollywood properties --- box office bombs, long-defunct TV franchises and classic films --- and put them for a remake to get recast!

The Carusobot Shades of Justice Will Find YOUUuuuuuuuuuu!!!

The rules are largely identical to The Original Dreamcasting, (heretofore referred to as Dreamcasting: Las Vegas, or Dreamcasting: The Original Series).

1) The winner of the last round becomes the moderator of the round, and thus gets to choose the property or story in question to be adapted. Winner may also declare whether this property is an animated film, or a live-action one. He must also name the core characters to be cast, which should be at least 4, but no more than 9.

2) Participants may not use actors who have played the role before in the same medium before. Voice talents may not reprise their role, nor can film/TV ones.

3) After the time period set by the moderator, the round is declared closed. People will vote via PM and send it to the moderator, who will count the votes and declare winner. Like the Ultimatization Game, you CANNOT vote for yourself. REMINDER: Moderators don't vote either.

4) The winner declared gets to choose the property in the next round.

For this round, you must cast:

THE ADDAMS FAMILY

Gomez Alonzo Addams, charismatic gentleman with a child-like excitability.

Morticia Frump-Addams, elegant vamp with artistic tendencies

Wednesday Friday Addams, cheerfully morbid elder sister.

Pugsley Addams, the nigh-invulnerable mechanically savvy younger brother

Uncle Fester Frump, devilishly mischievous uncle with an electrical charge

Eudora "Granny" Addams, slightly spazzy dabbler of the arcane

Thing, disembodied 'right hand man' er 'right hand' to Gomez Addams

Lurch, shambling groaning butler with the 'heart' of an Addams

Round ends at May 26 4PM GMT.

Is this movie or TV series? Just asking because it'll affect granduer of my cast.
I honestly couldn't decide, because I was hoping people would just assume.

But I guess it should be a TV series. The TV series is like decades old now. High time for a remake.

I tried to keep my list narrowed down to somewhat unknown tv stars. Also picked younger actors to play Gomez and Morticia (not too young but younger than other versions) to make it more modern.

Heres my list
  • Gomez Alonzo Addams, = Will Friedle (eric off boy meets world) Only due to different characters he's played all having similar qualities to Gomez. If he could town down the eric character for example he would be cool.
  • Morticia Frump-Addams, = Juliet Landau , She looks the part and we know she can do it from previous role of Drusilla in buffy (just with out the fake accent)
  • Wednesday Friday Addams =Miranda Cosgrove , If you don't know who this is think "Megan" on "Drake a Josh" I really can't put my finger on this one but I think she could pull it off.
  • Pugsley Addams, = Angus T. Jones the first person I cast straight away. The description of pugsley is just like the character "Jake" on two and half men. So I know he could pull the role off and he is a bit chubby as well , chubby enough to be Pugsley.
  • Uncle Fester Frump, =Andy Dick , I honestly think he would make a crazy , ok different , but still a great Uncle Fester that would be funny and entertaining at the same time.
  • Eudora "Granny" Addams, =Betty White (Golden Girls) She is so perfect for this role I'm surprised this was the one I picked last. It's a no brainer when I think about it.
  • Thing, = CGI
  • Lurch, = played by The Great Khali (longest yard and WWE) for height and the right look. Voiced however since The Great Khali has a hard time talking by Patrick Warburton as I think his voice would be cool for Lurch but he does not look right. This way combining the two I get the perfect lurch

Cast Cousin It also, everyone.

And wasn't Fester Gomez's brother, or is that only in the movies?

I can't do this. The cast they had for the movie was perfect, and no one I can think of can come close for any of the parts.
That's why it's a remake. Change everything, pillage aspects of the different versions of the characters, make your own spin. I know Compound is going for a Six Feet Under style approach.

Ooooh. That sounds good. Can't wait to see his choices.

I'm not sure of the feel for my cast. I have some who specialize in drama and some in comedy. 2 of my people have never even played this kinda role.

It's still in the early stages.

When making an Addams Family TV show I would make it this huge comedy. It would border on Family Guy levels of absurdity.

Gomez: Darell Hammond (Saturday Night Live) He has an ability to play any part perfectly and I think he would do this well. I think the thing about him is that he would pay honor to the role well. This was the hardest pick BTW.

Morticia: Katey Segal (Married with Children, 8 Simple Rules) With her regal look and experience in absurd comedies (Futurama) she would be graet for the motherly Morticia.

Wednesday: Hannah Marks (Accepted) She was the intellegent and smart-*** sister in Accepted. She could probably play the devious sister trying to kill off her brother.

Pugsley: Angus T. Jones (Two and a Half Men) I had to steal this one. There is absolutly noone who could play this better. He was the first person I thought of.

Uncle Fester: Michael Chicklis (Fantastic Four, The Shield) Just look at him, he looks the part great and he can do oddball humor. He does comedy scenes really well which would be essential to the character.

Granny: Cloris Leachman (Beerfest, Beverly Hillbillies) Just look at her recent movies and don't tell me she does zany comedy work.

Thing: David Ducovny (X-Files, Zoolander) This is soley for his portrayal of JP Pruitt, the world's graetest hand model ever, in the Oscar worthy film Zoolander.

Lurch: Richard Kiel (The Spy Who Loved Me, Happy Gilmore) He's gigantic and looks the part great. Plus he does funny bits really well.

Heres my list
[*]Uncle Fester Frump, =Andy Dick , I honestly think he would make a crazy , ok different , but still a great Uncle Fester that would be funny and entertaining at the same time.
I actually think this a very nicely unorthodox choice.

Also, am I the only person who thinks people should be looking at hand models for Thing?

One of the biggest challenges, for me, is deciding what age Wednesday and Pugsley should be, since (a) that determines what kind of stories you can tell with them, and (b) it obviously affects casting decisions.

Right now, I'm inclined to use pre-teen versions of the characters -- more like the ones depicted in Addams Family Values (which is one of my all-time fave movies, in terms of pure entertainment value). But it's frustratingly difficult to find able 12-year-olds in contemporary Hollywood -- especially those who can handle the inherent weirdness demanded by the role.

(There you go, Ourchair... I've set up an easy opening for you. Will you bite?)

Doesn't she look so beautiful when she sleeps? So innocent and virginal.

That is all I have to say.

Achem.

Looking back I see some of choices were really , really bad. So I did a second one.

My idea is a comdey type show similar to original but a bit more serious. Than I wanted at first..

Writers – David Crane (friends) , Stephen Godchaux (dead like me) and Jeffrey Bell (angel) This combination is to get the comedy and goofiness of friends , the dark comedy of dead like me and the seriousness mixed with comedy of Angel.

Director – Michael Spiller (He directed a few episodes of scrubs including "My Big Brother")I just like the way scrubs is directed and feels very unsitcom like but yet is is a sitcom at the same time.

Cast

Gomez Alonzo Addams, = Jason Behr (max on roswell) the reason behind this is I'm going for more serious so I think Jason Behr would go well and I would be interested in How he would do Gomez.

Morticia Frump-Addams, = Juliet Landau , She looks the part and we know she can do it from previous role of Drusilla in buffy (just with out the fake accent) also thinking about I can not see anyone else now days as Morticia but her.

Wednesday Friday Addams =Macey Cruthird (Hayley on hope and faith) If her hair was dark (wig or dye) I honestly think now looking at it she would play a good Wednesday

Pugsley Addams, = Angus T. Jones the first person I cast straight away. The description of pugsley is just like the character "Jake" on two and half men. So I know he could pull the role off and he is a bit chubby as well , chubby enough to be Pugsley.

Uncle Fester Frump, = Andy Dick , I honestly think he would make a crazy , ok different , but still a great Uncle Fester that would be funny and entertaining at the same time.

Eudora "Granny" Addams, =Holland Taylor (Evelyn on two and half men , Professor Stromwell on Legally Blonde , Dean Susan McMann on saved by the bell) this choice was I was going for a fairly younger cast (compared with the films) and figured she could do the character justice with her style while also adding a real meanness to it which goes with more of the serious tone but also comedy that I'm going for.

Thing, = CGI

Lurch, = Neil Flynn (The Janitor from scrubs) tall , Lurch qualities to him as the Janitor so I think he would be perfect. In fact I'm ashamed at myself for NOT having him in my first list.

Edit---damn...I meant to type all this last night but forgot. I see Ourchair closed it as I was typing. Am I still too late?

If not.....

Ok....so my pitch for the show is that it's a tongue-in-cheek mock of the original show. Much like NBC's "30 Rock" and "Studio 60" are to it's SNL.

With that concept of tone in mind---the show would actually pick up a few years after the end of the second film. The kids are no longer pre-teens, and due to county re-zoning laws, now must attend a new high school. The family fortune, having a good portion of it being spent on Fester and Dementia's "Lover's Trip Around the World", Gomez has decided to start a business (not really sure what kind yet). Morticia is still a stay at home mother entrenched with constant PTA battles since their baby has now started elementary school.

Fester is still Fester. Granny is still Granny. Lurch will be Lurch...but to take full advantage of the actor's comedic skills....Lurch we'll be able to hear Lurch's thoughts. They'll mostly be one-liners.

And now onto the cast.....

Gomez - Alec Baldwin - I want Baldwin to channel "30 Rock" Jack....with a twist of the macabre and add delusions of granduer.

Morticia - Melora Hardin - Hardin is no stranger to comedy...but I feel she can bring a more comedic maternal feel to the mother who is constantly bewildered by normal parents' methods on how to raise a child.

Wednesday - Zooey Deschanel - My other choice was Evan Rachel Wood.....but I feel that Zooey's experience and coupled with her impeciable sarcastic comedic timing harkens back to a Jeanine Garafalo (and yes I know my spelling is horrible today). Plus Wood tends to be a bit more serious in nature. I need dark sarcasm....not dark "I cut myself to feel".

Pugsley - Jonah Hill - Not just chosen to be the token fat guy in a comedy. Hill's been slowly coming into his own in the past few years. Pugsley is still this bright-eyed boy who sees wonderment in all new things. I can just imagine how Hill would add depth to the character.

Fester - Tony Shaloub - Bald Monk without the germophobia and artistic freedom to be as wild as he wans to be. If you're thinking of casting anyone else.....you're wrong.

Granny - Jessica Walter - Add make-up just like they did in the film and tada! While the movie casting of Granny was perfect....I'd like to see what Walter can bring to the character. Her role as Bluth matriarch on Arrested Development gave the perfect balance of slapstick comedy and drunken absurdness.

Lurch - Neil Flynn - Best known as the janitor on Scrubs. Flynn's ability to remain a secondary character and yet still steal all the scenes he's in is nothing short of genius. Keep in mind that while he might grunt thru the show....we'll be able to hear his thoughts randomly when applicable. More often then not Lurch will have the answer to everyone's problem....but since the lumbering sage can't speak...he'll often be ignored. Still an important character to have.

Thing - David Cross - For Thing...I want the most absurd and outlandish exagerations of hand movement as possible. And no one brings out the WTF more than Tobias Funke. I imagine if Thing was trying to sneak across the room to grab something....how absurd with Tobias do it? And then I laugh uncontrollably.

Aw, damn! Too later for the competition. Was hella busy, for the past week. I started work on this last weekend, but I left my original choices on my girlfriend's hard-drive, at her place. Anyway, rather than let it go to waste, I might as well share my ideas...

THE PREMISE

My proposal is for an HBO mini-series, intended to "reboot" the franchise, by starting over from the point where the Addams Family first encounters the residents of present-day Westfield, NJ (creator Charles Addams original home-town). My approach would be a more "grown-up" take on a fantastic concept -- one part Edward Scissorhands-like sympathy for the macabre; one part Nip/Tuck 21st-century risque humor, mixed with wry social commentary. It looks Edward Gorey, but feels like Alan Ball.

2007. The Addams Family have become something of an American institution -- apparently unaffected by the passage of time, ever since they came into public knowledge in the 1930s (as established by a montage of news footage from various eras). At various points, they have been reviled as freaks and corrupters; in more tolerant times, they are hailed as maverick individualists, casually moving on with their unique lifestyle within their reclusive household, regardless of passing trends. Now, they're just another footnote in pop Americana.

That is, until a renegade TV producer decides to issue a challenge to patriarch Gomez -- to reintegrate his family into everyday society (something they have not done since 1967), and to do so under the watchful eye of his film crew, 24/7. The real question is -- is the post-9/11 world ready to accomodate the Addams?

Will Gomez get screwed over by jealous co-workers, as he joins a swanky Wall Street stock brokerage?

How does Morticia inadvertantly win over a PTA full of soccer moms and desperate housewives?

Does having an extensive chemistry set in the basement single out Uncle Fester as a potential domestic terrorist?

Is Grandmama just a little too enthusiastic about her dire predictions for WASPy brats at a children's Halloween party?

Can introspective Wednesday avoid being caught in the conflict between the generic mean girl clique that are secretly threatened by her family's resurgent popularity, and the annoying Emily Strange wanna-bes who idolize her?

Who is the school misfit with the My Chemical Romance obsession, and what does he want from nigh-invulnerable, technologically-gifted idiot savant Pugsley? And just what kind of sinister device does he want him to build...?

It's the same old Addams Family you know and love, given a shot of post-24 TV adrenaline, starring...

THE CAST

gomez.jpg

Andy Serkis as Gomez AND Thing. Enough with the CGI and freak make-up. It's time for the man behind the Gollum to be front and center, as the dashing head of the Addams Family. He's no stranger to misunderstood outcast parts, obviously, but if you saw his wonderful supporting role in 13 Going on 30 as a flamboyant, arch magazine editor, then you know that he's got the commanding presence necessary to bring Gomez to life. He would do double duty as his right-hand man, Thing, given his obvious experience with that kind of effects-based acting.

morticia.jpg

Tilda Swinton as Morticia. Combine her captivating, otherworldly appearance from the Narnia movies, with her blase parenting style as the mom in Thumbsucker, and there you have it: "Ultimate" Morticia.

wednesday.jpg

Dakota Fanning as Wednesday. I'm surprised nobody else picked her! If you've seen her memorable performance in Uptown Girls, you'll know that she can act simultaneously bratty, petulant, unimpressed, and cynical -- exactly the kind of combination I'd want to see in a pre-teen version of Wednesday. I know the original comics portray her as a more oblivious, naive character -- kinda like Lenore, the Cute Little Dead Girl. But I'm definitely partial to the more sinister interpretation used in the 90s movies, and with a dye job and the right wardrobe, i'm totally convinced that Fanning could pull it off.

Philip Wiegratz as Pugsley. Ideally, I'd just cast a very charismatic unknown as Pugsley. Seriously, do you have any idea how difficult it is to cast an established, competenet 12-year-old in contemporary Hollywood, let alone a *chubby* 12-year-old? But since the rules of the challenge demand I pick somebody with a previous track record, I might as well go with Philip Wiegratz, who had a short but effective role as gluttonous Augustus Gloop in Tim Burton's version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That means he's got a basic familiarity with the demands of "normalized weirdness" that The Addams Family calls for.

granny.jpg

Ellen Burstyn as Granny. Grandmama needs to be a little flaky, but nevertheless intimidating -- like she's not quite aware of just how dangerous she can be. On the strength of her performances in Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, and the (otherwise disappointing) remake of The Wicker Man, I'd say she fits the role quite nicely.

fester.jpg

David Cross as Uncle Fester. I know that some of you may scream "Typecasting!", but Fester is really a very different kind of 'weird relative' as Tobias Funke from Arrested Development. Yes, both share a kind of reckless playfulness, but while Tobias takes himself ridiculously seriously, Fester is really more of an over-grown kid trapped in a mad scientist's body. Honestly, I'm not 100% confident about this pick, but it seems better than my initial gut response: Jack Black, who doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the cast I picked. I also considered Enrico Colatoni (the dad from Veronica Mars, and Elliott from Just Shoot Me!).

Peter Mayhew as Lurch. Chewbacca, *****es! Enough said. Just convince him to cut his hair, or find a way to hide it, within his costume. I would have picked the late Matthew McGrory (the giant from Big Fish, and "Tiny" from The Devil's Rejects) if he hadn't passed away in 2005. He was a genuinely skilled actor who could handle subtle changes of mood using just his actions.

Okay fine. Two people tried to fit in their entries before the deadline.

Just to be nice, that means VVD is STILL eligible to win because he missed me closing the thread by a few minutes.

Compound is not, unfortunately, for in spite of the excellent effort put into his entry, he was still over 12 hours late.

So, TEH VOTING CONTINUES.
