I could've sworn I started a thread for this...

Any-Hoo, got Volume 3 on Sunday. Great stuff, though it was a step down from "The Painting That Ate Paris" (I suppose nothing can top the Dada Society). Danny the Street is insanely fun and The Men from N.O.W.H.E.R.E. are both creepy and hilarious at the same time. The Cage VS The Kaleidoscope thing was just confusing in the way that's more annoying than delightful. The series seems to switch a lot between "Fun, colorful insanity" to "Creepy, overly-wordy madness". It's the wierdness without all the colors and fun.

I'm pretty sure I'm writing my next review on Doom Patrol.

I can't wait to read "Musclebound" for one sole reason...

FLEX MENTALLO!
MAN
OF
MUSCLE MYSTERY!

I have the Flex Mentallo mini but haven't read it yet.

Volume 4 was CrazyGood FunTimes to the Max. Flex Mentallo and the Pentagon secrets may be the best arc so far. The Beard Hunter was hysterical and it was great to see the Brotherhood of Dada return.

I want to get my hands on the Flex Mentallo mini now... I love his character so hardcore.

I downloaded it because the mini is so hard to find, apparently due to the Charles Atlas estate suing them or something.

Doom Patrol is great. Musclebound is great fun - turning the Pentagon into a circle?! WTF?!

Flex Mentallo is awesome just from the sheer WTF-ness of his power. Reality warping via muscle flexing! Not to mention the "Hero of the Beach" halo over his head.

I've had this series on my computer for a long while and I havn't started it yet.

Should I start from issue 1 or from where Morrison takes over.

Morrison starts with #19 with "Crawling From The Wreckage". I've not read any non-Morrison Doom Patrol, so I don't know if it's worth reading the others. I wouldn't bother.

Yeah, Morrison took over because the book wasn't getting bought (I think), and since that sometimes has something to do with quality...

And anyway, the arc doesn't take previous knowledge. I could have read 1-18, but didn't.

You could read 1-18 if you like Erik Larson. . .

I would best describe them as "unessential." And no, I haven't read them, though I have flipped through a couple of them and seen the covers. The whole team dies during Invasion anyway.

Are these with the original line-up or did MOrrison do something Morrison-y.

I've heard very good thing about the Relaunch before last. Not the Byrne but the one before.

I need to read this.

Doom Patrol is possibly the second most Morrison-y thing out there... The First being The Invisables.

I expected that, but is the taem Robotman, Elastigirl, Negative Man? I was wondering if it was the original team line up.

With Morrison's run, it's somewhat altered.

Robotman is there, but he's a little more introspective. Negative Man is there but he's been drastically changed. The negative energy being that inhabits his body melded a female doctor into it, becoming a bandaged, hermaphroditic...thing, that calls itself Rebis. There's Crazy Jane, a woman with dozens of multiple personalites who each have their own individual superpower. There's also Dorothy, a deformed girl with psychic abilities, and a few other revolving characters.

Awesome. I was thinking of getting into Vertigo and I thought this would be the best place to start.

I tried it and couldn't get into it.

It was boring and way to confusing. I don't know. I read like 20 issues to see if it got better.

But alas. I did not care for it.

Which issues did you read?

I know John Byrne and Grant Morrison have worked on this book. I haven't read any of it though.

Why would anyone willingly read John Byrne's issues?
