Don't post a lot about 616 stuff this made me sit up and think "oooohhh that''s actually looks cool"

Summer might be right around the corner for most, but school is back in session for the five original 1! That's right true believers, you demanded it and Marvel was more than happy to oblige—the original team is back. Writer Jeff Parker and artist Roger Cruz are back with more in continuity stories about the early years of Xavier's first students and this time, it's an ongoing series! It all begins with guest-star Invisible Girl, picked by Professor X to be a role model for Jean Grey…but will things turn out fantastic or "madtastic" when a certain villain shows up?

I may be wrong in saying this but going back and doing stories in original continuity sound kind of like Marvel are coping the All-star idea but i may wrong like said. Still this looks great to me , old looking costumes , cool art , modern story telling all in one , might be the first time i've bought a 616 X-men comic just to enjoy it for a while (last time was years ago , civil-war buying does not count as that was just to get the full story not for the comic it's self)

Re: X-men First Class

From what I've heard this is a pretty good series that most people enjoy. If your interested I believe that the first trade is out (it actually was a mini series, Marvel just recently decided to pick it up as a series).

Re: X-men First Class

Nice , I might buy the trade in a month or two when i'm in usa and I go to a good comic shop.

Like i said looks great everything I see is pro. Only con is I don't think Wolverine is in it is he? (My favourite X-man) but still looks great with him.

No he's not in it, but it's plausible that he could guest star later.

Re: X-men First Class

First Class indicates that its Pre-"All-New X-Men", I can almost guarentee that Wolverine will never show his face in the title... Mimic on the other hand could pop up.

I read the first issue of the original mini, it was garbage.

The mini (8 issues) was actually supposed to be an ongoing. Then Marvel decided to make it a mini. Then an ongoing again, so they started with a new #1.

Re: X-men First Class

That bad huh?
I've read most of the mini-series, in the store. If I may attempt to be a little more objective... I guess it all depends on what you're after, really.

The story-telling *is* over-simplistic and also very over-blown and dramatic, in a way that's purposely intended to replicate the uncomplicated narratives of the Silver Age.

But it's also not written in a deliberately a "kid-friendly" way, compared to the Marvel Adventures kind of titles. So it's a nice little 'gateway book' for pre-teen-age readers, hoping to get into the franchise. At that level, I could appreciate the series.

I also read many of the Silver and 'Bronze' Age X-Men stories that were republished in the Classic X-Men comics, in the late 80s and early 90s. So I enjoyed the stories in First Class, in an odd nostalgic kind of way.

Unlike many other people, I have no problem with Roger Cruz and his ever-shifting art style (and not just because he and I share a family name). It's lively, functional, and suits the tone of the book.

I say, flip through a couple of single issues when you're in a comic store, or look for an open copy of the collected mini-series, before deciding. It's hardly a sure-buy, must-read title, but it's not without its own charms and merits.

I doubt I'd ever pay for it, but I don't regret reading it at all.

Re: X-men First Class

I read the HC of the first 8 issues, and it's great. Mole, if you haven't checked it out, I recommend it.

This title, as I've said a couple times and was telling TOG last night on MSN, it's not a "serious" title that's on the level like the other X-books, but it's a nice fun side read. It's meant to be light-hearted and fun and charming. It's not really a die-hard-have-to-read-now kind of book, but it's great when you check it out.

The art is cool and fits the title well. This book isn't "garbage", either.

These are all new brand new stories, so there's no getting lost. Not even with just starting with the second #1 (though getting the first eight would still be a must to read more coolness). It's very funny and cool.

DSF is just crazy, we all know that.

Re: X-men First Class

Sounds cool Ice , any sign of Wolverine yet?

Re: X-men First Class

I got the original mini, the one-shot and the first 5 ish's of the ongoing

I loved the mini and the one-shot, but the ongoing seems to be missing something, i think i might be dropping it next issue

but i read that Eric Nguyen is doing the interior art for #8 (featuring Man-Thing) so i might hold on until then

Re: X-men First Class

I loved Marko Djur's covers for the first one, and Eric's cover for the ongoing now have been just as great.

I also got the one-shot (back at Philly) and it was awesome. The short stories were cool and the comic strips were really funny.

Re: X-men First Class

A bad thing for Mole (he said he likes Wolverine).

A good thing for everyone else.

Yeah I do like Wolverine , but i might still check this out

Never remembered seeing Black Widow like that before.

I am in love with this series.

That is all.

....

wait a second!

Where's Eric Nyugen on the covers?! :(

Though I do like Cruz's work, don't get me wrong.

I was about to say that I think that's Mocking Bird (because of the mask), but then I saw the wrist things. Also, Black Widow makes more sense to use for a cover.
