Dreamcasting: Adaptations #13 - Pride of Baghdad

Zill - James Purefoy
Purefoy is an accomplished actor. I truly believe that he can pull off any role imaginable. So in this case, he'd have to bring his flawed hero qualities to the role to become the leader that is Zill.

Noor - James Purefoy
Noor, young lioness who longs for freedom. You know what I think of when I think of freedom? You're damn right. Purefoy. Now, I know what you're thinking: Noor is a female. Well, like I said, I believe that Purefoy has the acting prowess to pull off any role. He would surpass the expectations of the audience and critics alike, adding to the tragic nature of this character.

Ali - James Purefoy
I haven't cast Purefoy in a while, and I think this is the role for him. He could pull of the lil' Lion with ease.

Safa - James Purefoy
When I say Purefoy is a brilliant actor, I mean he's a brilliant ****ing actor. Purefoy can do blind. Purefoy can do female. Purefoy would own in this role.

Fajer - James Purefoy
I cast Purefoy in this role because I think he has very bear-like qualities to him, which he can utilize in his performance as the killer bear. I think he can capture the brutal nature of Fajer.

Bukk - James Purefoy
This lion from Safa's past would be played by none other than James Purefoy. I wasn't sure at first whether I should cast Purefoy in the role, but I think he'd do pretty good.

Rashid - James Purefoy
James Purefoy will play the role of Rashid, a tortured lion. I feel confident that Purefoy has the balls the play this role.

  that's brilliant

Also Best cast this round

Here's my voice casting of the movie

Viggo Mortensen as Zill, the alpha male of the pride.

Dame Judi Dench as Safa, an old lioness, blind in one eye, who has become accustomed to captivity and views the human "keepers" as allies.

Jennifer Love Hewitt as Noor, a younger lioness, mother to Ali; she longs for freedom from the zoo.

Angus T. Jones as Ali, a young cub.

Clancy Brown as Fajer, a blood-thirsty bear.

Deal with it's awesomeness

Hmmmm....I'm not really sure I like this choice. As far as stage presence goes....Viggo's got it in Spades. But I'm not sure he's best suited for voice acting. I keep trying to picture Zill speaking, but all I'm not hearing Zill. I'm hearing Aragon. And it don't fit.

This is actually a brilliant choice. But seeing as how it's Dame Judi Dench, you can't really go wrong with choosing her to play an old fiesty woman.

Jennifer Love Hewitt as Noor, a younger lioness, mother to Ali; she longs for freedom from the zoo.

Hmmmm....this is one of those choices that will either work really well....or not all. JLH's voice has the presence of age, maturity and confidence required for the role---but another aspect to JLH is the fact that as a ****ty actress, who ranks right above Elisha Cuthbert, her inexperience to be anything but an aging teen scream queen brings a touch of naivete that comes with Noor's character. JLH's biggest crutch is also her saving grace here.

Angus T. Jones as Ali, a young cub.

This works well. Period.

Clancy Brown as Fajer, a blood-thirsty bear.

Big deep voice. Perfectly matching the big character. And like he's presented before, Brown brings a quiet air of royalty and respect to all his roles. Which works out perfectly for royal pet.

All in all....a decent cast. Some choices were off....some were on. At least it wasn't James Purefoy.

More casts people! More! Now!

I should have my non-votable cast up by this weekend. I'll leave you with this awesome nugget:

Michael Clarke Duncan as Fajer. Bask in it's brilliance *****es.

I thought Pride of Baghdad was a comic. It should have probably been done in the Comic Book Movie Discussion Dreamcasting then.

Langsta is right!

Well it is a graphic novel so I guess it could fall under book and comic and so be a Adaptation or normal comic one

I don't participate in this much, though interesting, but I thought I'd take a look. I think these strong male leads doesn't really fit Zill. I kind've took him as a bit more insecure. Was I wrong?

You are correct. Which is why my choice (to be posted later) makes a bit more sense.

Zill may in fact be the leader of the pride but its mostly due to the fact that he's the only male lion. King by default. Plus with the lions being pacified in captivity---he's not really the alpha male type.

It is. But it isn't.

I look at it as a completed illustrated book. There's no series. No minis. It's one complete story. This could've just as well been written story only and the poignancy would still apply.

It could've been done in either format/round.

That would mean that just about EVERYTHING that is a 'graphic novel' could be spun into this Dreamcasting.

And since nobody seems to agree on what is or isn't a graphic novel and is or isn't a comic book, that would be a ridiculous idea.

I mean graphic novel as in "Written just for that book" Like Doom said

So this would be ok but say Ultimate Spider-man vol 1 would not be.

I'm not explaining this too well am I

So's Watchmen.

The 'one complete story', therefore it is a graphic novel/illustrated book is a strange and altogether silly argument used only by people putting on airs.

It's still a comic book.

Neil Gaiman would agree with this.

I think we may have to merge the two Dreamcasting rounds in the future as though there is a limitless amount of ideas to mine, we seem to be running out fairly quickly.

I don't think we're running out of ideas at all.

I think the problem was that somebody up and went and decided to make the 'remakes' thread I initiated into a 'adaptations' thread.

Which is silly.

Making two threads between comics and 'everything else' is a completely uneven way to divide the ideas for rounds.

I started 'remakes' because the idea was 'everything known to man that hasn't been made' and 'everything that has been done before'.
