The highly anticipated film production of TV series Friends has finally been given the go-ahead, MailOnline has learned.

Cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer will reprise their roles for a big-screen adaptation 'within the next 18 months', according to insiders.

The actors have been inspired by the recent success of Sex And The City, which recently hit cinemas worldwide.

and

As we revealed in this week's heat, plans for a Friends movie are gathering speed – and it's now emerged that Jennifer Aniston has finally been persuaded that it is a good idea, meaning that production could start within 18 months. It's thought that the huge success of the Sex And The City movie has inspired Jen to sign up – so now they just need to make it official. "Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions," says a Hollywood source. "As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can't help but look at what's happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous. What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again. But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again. She says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly. In that sense, it's Sex And The City all over again. There's no movie unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy financially."

Now I know a lot of people here are probably going to see this and respond with "Oh god more friends  lame" or "LOLZ I bet it sucks" But I think most fans of friends will be pretty excited as IMO Friends was awesome. Sure series 5-10 wasn't as good as 1-4 but it was still funny and movie as the possibility of been great fun.

Friends ended long after it should have. Friends' first four seasons were absolute never-ending fountains of hilariousness and Chandler Bing of this period remains to me the funniest sitcom character, ever, because of this fact.

Sometime after the Emily fiasco, the series took a nosedive and prostituted itself to lame, everyday sitcom jokes that I myself could have written. I'd be inclined to think that a movie would go the same way.

Anyway, if they're going to make a movie, I don't know, just make it around Ross and Rachel's wedding or something. A long enough period of time has passed that it could actually work as a plot now and it wouldn't just be "Ross is getting married again?!".

Really not too pushed about this, but it might be nice to see.

I thought the same thing. I think a movie the writers would have had enough time to come up with something new and funny. The problem I think is that friends season 5-10 was riding on the success of 1-4 and they didn't have to try. I still laughed at parts of it a lot e.g season 8 when Joey got ross to hit him then ducked then punched ross thinking ross would duck  And the holiday armadillo.

However a movie in order for it to be successful as a movie they will have to try hard in order to do it. Hopefully it'll be 1-4 style of comedy.

Also agree with Chandler he was awesome in the first 4 seasons. Still funny later on but not as much.

After The Simpsons Movie, I'm cynical. That was not a funny movie, whatsoever (although I think you disagree).

Everything you've just described was either slapstick idiocy or over-the-top outrageousness. My Mom told me once that Friends was close to being cancelled a couple of times, but it was actually the post-9/11 surge in NY-related shows that boosted its popularity again.

I think it's the last episode, where Rachel is leaving and Chandler is trying to hug her and he keeps making fart noises...:furious:

Compared to:

Monica: "Guys, you won't believe what happened!"

Chandler: "That last dentist caved and now all five recommend using Crest?!"

...it's absolutely sinful how crappy the humour got.

I do disagree but the difference is the simpsons writers had like 17-18 years of writing the series and while writing the movie they were still writing the show.

The friends writers have like 12 (assuming some did the two years of joey) and haven't done it for years and won't be making a new series as they do movie. That could be a huge factor. E.g the sex in the city movie is said to be great as the writers could concentrate on just the film.

True but it's still funny. 1-4 had moments like that e.g Joey doing D.I.Y building the unit and cuts chandler's door in half and chandler falls straight over it. It was funny. Again though I prefer the earlier ones but still laugh at later.

True. I'm just saying he was still good later and I do like the development his charracter took where he could finally commit to a relationship, Could be serious and was very much the heart of group. Though I do miss his comedy.

Though the last line in the final he had was good.

One of them (Rachel I think) says "Want to go grab a coffee?"
He replies "Sure but where should we go?" That's funny.

and he did have some good lines later. But yes he was 100% better in earlier ones.

So, I guess the cast of Friends finally realized those are the only roles they'll ever get. Good for them.

Matthew Perry has become a fine serious actor whose presence I always enjoy on TV. As for the rest of them, there's really not much to say, I'll admit. Jeniffer Aniston is living off of romcom-of-the-weeks and interviews about her break-up with Brad (which happened close to a zillion years ago).

As for the rest of them, I'd say a large part of it has to do with the fact that they're rich enough that they don't ever have to work again (Matt LeBlanc is just easing into the high-life), so they're picking fun little projects on Broadway and on the Indie circuit, etc (this is certainly true of David Schwimmer). Also, Lisa Kudrow is probably devoting a lot of time to her family, so that's probably why she's not working.

On the subject of Lisa Kudrow, did anyone notice that her hotness doubled by the time the show ended? On the flip-side, Aniston was only half as hot by the time the show wrapped. Courteney Cox was arguably the same as ever (although I know Planet-Man will disagree with me).

I thought she got hotter every season

I think the smoking took its toll. She was unbelievably, impossibly hot at the start of the show, with the perfect voice, hair and curvy body...everything. As the series went on, she got scrawny and her face got distinctively smokery.

See season 1 I think she looked fatter than season 10. As the weight started to go she started to get hotter IMO.

Like sarah michelle gellar. She's fatter in season 1 of buffy but as she gets thinner she looks much much hotter. But this is my opinion

The way you say 'fatter' implies that you like the anorexic look. I'm just sayin' is all...

I'm all about curvy girls. I actually think Buffy looks hotter in Season 1, coincidentally.

Anyway, Friends movie. Gimme some Chandler/Monica/Richard.

No Richard, They ended his story perfectly on the show with him stepping aside because chandler was ready to pop the question.

But anyway, movie wise like you mentioned earlier it has to be Ross and Rachel's wedding as it's the only thing big enough to unite them again. The only things I can see is a wedding or a funeral and I don't think a funeral would end. Plus Ross and Rachel getting married sober this time would be a great end.

Also won't Monica and Chandler's son be 4-5 now? and I wonder if Cole Sprouse will return as Ben due to him filming The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Not a big thing I know but it would be nice to get him back.

Yeah, I guess. Plus, he was pretty old in his last appearance. He'd be just a bit too ancient, now.

Bingo. It would be the only plot that they could specifically do in a movie now, that they couldn't do when the show ended. Enough time has passed that if they got married again, it wouldn't seem silly; and a wedding is a grand enough occasion for a movie. Plus, Ross and Rachel were blatantly the main characters of the show, despite the actors claiming otherwise.

I really don't think a Disney Channel show that probably won't last ten minutes is going to stop a kid from being in a movie that would be probably the biggest thing of his career.

It's been going since 2005 so it's already lasted longer than some shows. But I was thinking contract wise. If the filming of the movie conflicts with his series he wouldn't be allowed to do it.

That Daily Mail piece is utter rubbish.

There no details, the studio denies it and no word around the Hollywood circuit that this is even being considered. In fact, a close reading of that post shows no actual quotes from cast or production teams expressing personal interest.

At least Arrested Development movie rumors quote the cast members saying "WE GONNA DO IT UH HUH" while the studios deny anything has happened.

To paraphrase the Risky Business Blog, it's not saying that a Friends movie won't happen, but that this likely won't be it's week, it's month or even it's year.

That Daily Mail piece is utter rubbish.

There is more than one place saying it though. Like the last link I posted plus

http://perezhilton.com/2008-0-02-awful-awful-awful/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FRIENDS#Film (though Wikipedia is very unreliable)

I think there is a chance. I think WB are denying it ect... now as the reports seemed leaked. So It's very possible they want to keep it quiet till they announce it.

Personally I think it's happening the Daily Mail does seem more reliable than that blog it is a big paper here. But who knows.

So is The Sun. And apart from page 3, which is full of boobs, it's full of bollocks.

No the sun like and the star are crap.

The Mail is the one like the Guardian and The Daily Telegraph. They are actually good papers.

are you sure your not getting the mail mixed up with the daily mirror? It sounds like it to me, that or you don't news papers with out the page 3 girl and pages of ****.
