What she's 'about'? All we learn about her character in 'Power' is that she doesn't eat nearly enough and she's got blonde hair! Everything else is just cool action fights.

What is she 'about', then? So far, all I can tell is that she's just any old boring teenage girl that is sickly and anorexic in some stories and voluptuously curvy in others. The most interesting thing I've ever seen her do is hit on Hal Jordan.

If this movie is made that's what the majority of the movie will be, superficial. Supergirl is not a immediately lucrative character like Batman, WB has shown little interest in Superhero movies other than the big two. So if this is made it will be with as little expenses as possible, they will hire a cheap director and a pretty face. Why? Because studios only see it as a rehash and will treat it as such, they don't look at a Supergirl movie and think "He there's an interesting character with a potentially good story" they think "we could probably make a quick buck". The chances of a talented director with a passion for the source material with a low budget can turn out an authentically good movie is slim to none. I would bet money on it.
Now if they were say going for a Power Girl movie I'd be more optimistic because that shows the studios don't see it as a rehash and may take it into an interesting and original direction.
I'm just sick of people saying "If done right" without considering the chances of it ACTUALLY being done right. If they announced a Supergirl movie tomorrow, right of the back I'd give it a 95% chance of failure.

Exactly. Specify, God damn it. What does 'done right' mean? What angle would the filmmakers take with it? Who would star and direct in it?
Whoever says 'done right' means a good supervillain and plenty of action, they're idiots and I'm done arguing with them.

I've seen the same thing happen to superhero movies before. And I'd like to think I have a pretty good insight on studios point of view. And you assume a lot more saying that it actually has a good chance to make a good film
If you get a great director, a good actress and a willing studio than is can work, but again your assuming an awful lot there.

Since when does good character ever translate into good movie? How many movies have been made that had great, original, and interesting source material turn out to be crap? And if you consider WB's lack on interest in their superhero properties you can just tell their going to take the concept of Supergirl with a grain of salt. Its easy to make a good batman film, it's easy to make a good Spider-man films because studios know their popular and they don't hesitate to spend the time and money on them because they know they'll make it back. It's harder to make a Supergirl movie because her inherent concept is a knock off. Supergirl they'll just right off as a Superman knock and believe the general public will write it off, and will not invest the time or interest in it because they don't think they'll get a return.
This has nothing to do with Supergirl's character in the comics but supergirl as a property. I grantee if Supergirl is made it'll turn out to be just like Catwoman, just from logic about the studios and industry.

Okay, you clearly think a Supergirl movie is stupid, and you honestly have no reason to suspect it'll be so. Studios spend a lot of money on movies, they're going to try to make them as profitable as possible. They won't just make something bad to make it bad.
With Catwoman they made exactly the movie they wanted to make because they thought there was a market for it. Obviously they were wrong, which makes them even less likely to do something like that again. And you can't argue they didn't put big name talent in it.

Because they know the name alone will get people like you who love the character to pay for it. Their not going to pay several writers to make an award winning script
I said a good actress, not a big name so-so (though to be honest I haven't seen Halle Berry in any of her award winning roles) actress. And you know what I could go on her saying what a great character catwoman is and if done right it could have been a great movie, but I don't feel like going through all the work for that joke.

I'm going to divert subjects because the Supergirl talk is getting boring. What do you guys think about a Justice Society movie? With Flash, GL, Dr. Fate and Wildcat acting as the elder statesmen and Power Girl, Hourman, Mr. Teriffic, Stargirl and Sandman as the modern team? All of them against Vandal Savage would make a sufficiently awesome movie in my opinion.

I would like it if they experimented with different types of film in the movie. Like maybe at the beginning of the movie, we get some old fake WW2 footage of the JSA fighting or something. I think it could be really neat.
Like have the original JSA back in WW2 fighting off Vandal Savage and War Wheels alongside Blackhawks or something? Add some grainy picture with characters like the original GL, Flash, Black Canary, Atom, Sandman and Hawkman in their retro style costumes and it would indeed be awesome. All of this kind of makes me want to see the Captain America film done in black and white.

Yeah. I want the opening of Captain America showing black and white footage of the initial super soldier tests along the credits. Real grainy and not very good quality, but we can still tell it's Steve Rogers. The title would then appear and then we'd just cut straight to World War II and it would be ****ing insane. Bullets, blood and mud everywhere. Bombs going off. And then we see Captain America. I would love it.
