DreamMovie #17- I am the Vengeance, I am the Knight...

****, I can't decide who to cast as Dick Grayson. I'm thinking about casting Scott Mechlowicz, the kid from Peaceful Warrior.

And damnit Zombipanda, you just blew my ****ing mind.

We start with Gotham City in the throes of a violent class war. Batman has been revealed as a cop killer, and the GCPD is chomping at the bit to take him down. Commissioner Gordon's hands are tied and Batman's only eye into the police force is Anna Ramirez, who suspects the truth given her role in TDK. We open on news footage of the city streets, aflame, steeped in violent looting, curfew in effect, riot police storming the blocks. The dissidents roam the streets in full clown war paint, railing on the decadence and the irresponsibility of the rich. Batman is in the midst of it, as a gang of clowns overwhelms a cargo truck and, through sheer numbers and ferocity, beat the **** out of the heavily armed men onboard. Batman dispatches both parties and uncovers a massive stash of heavy arms loaded in the back of the truck, but before he has time to investigate, the police arrive, and he has to flee. But he's worried. The attack suggests a method behind the seemingly anarchic looting of the clown plague, and the threat of these young lunatics armed to the teeth is simply terrifying. Further, with organized crime in shambles, there's a question of who the men driving the guns were working for. Meanwhile, the GCPD's hands are full with the business at hand and have no time to go tracking down the Batman. They contract private eye Eddie Nashton to investigate for them. Nashton briefly visits Hugo Strange, who starts to point Nashton in the right direction. He makes the big break when he sifts through the background on the accountant who was looking to break open the Batman story (who's name I don't remember), pulling background on the guy to narrow down the possibilities of who the Batman could be, and after stumbling on design specs for the tumbler, it all clicks in place, and he realizes that whoever is the Batman must be associated in some way with Wayne Corp. Speaking of Wayne Corp, Lucius Fox is in a board meeting with Kathy Kane (cover for Talia Al-Ghul, played by Uma). She's the head of Kane Enterprises, a monolithic international company that specializes in import-export and has cornered shipping in and out of Gotham. She's negotiating a partnership where Kane handles all of the shipping for Wayne goods, and Kane gets stock interest in the company. Fox is reticent, but other investors seem eager. At the end of the meeting, Kane offers her disappointment that Bruce Wayne couldn't make it, although she understands how a meeting like this would be boring for someone like him, and suggests a better place to become acquainted with his future partner may be the opening party of the new Iceberg Lounge. Wayne's dogged, the state of emergency putting its toll on him, and almost all of his time is spent in the cowl. Wayne Manor's been rebuilt, with the cave expanded, outfitted with a massive mainframe, which he's using to investigate entrepreneur and new Gotham resident, Oswald Cobblepot. Alfred's worried about Bruce, gently suggesting that the Wayne personality needs some exercise. He suggests Wayne show up at Cobblepot's Iceberg Lounge - Bruce agrees entirely. We meet Selina Kyle, elegant, rich, mysterious, seen chatting with Kathy Kane. She's coaxed to go meet Bruce Wayne, who's certainly charmed. He meets Kathy Kane, as well as Bane (who I'm sure has a real name in the movie. I'm just not sure what it is). He also manages to plant a listening device in Cobblepot's office. Things hit off well with Selina, and after some teasing him in the right direction, he suggests she visit Lucius for a tour of the company. Back at Wayne Manor, he monitors the bug, which clearly reveals the deal between Cobblepot and Bane. Cobblepot is serving as the arbiter between Bane and the mysterious third party, in an open exchange of guns and drugs from the island. Cobblepot's using the Lounge to launder the money and make everything look legit. Bane is heading home overnight: he rarely leaves Santa Prisca, being intensely paranoid and over-prudent, and admits the only reason he agreed to actually come to Gotham was due to his fascination with the city's Bat. Wayne decides that night that he's leaving for Santa Prisca to neutralize Bane. Alfred, incredulous, asks how he's going to wage war on an entire island. Wayne's unsatisfying answer is that he'll simply make it unprofitable for Santa Prisca to continue doing business with Gotham. Batman emerges from the bay into Santa Priscan port. Here, he rigs a number of ships (marked Kane Enterprises, he notes) loaded with coke. He then heads for the President's mansion, a massive fortress on a cliff overlooking the coast. It's been retrofitted from the penitentiary that locked away so much of Bane's life, as a shining emblem of redemption. He works his way through the heavily guarded stronghold until he comes upon Bane's private quarters. Batman shows Bane the detonator in his hand. They talk, about the nature of their missions, about who's right, who's wrong. Batman shows what he's willing to do, detonating the cargo ships out in the port. Bane comes at him, and he monopolizes the fight. He cracks Batman's back over his knee and flings him out of the window. Batman spins to the sea below, his cape unfurling behind him, in a fluttering spiral like an injured sparrow, and he plunges into the water.

And that's the first act.

There's a problem, though. Lucius Fox retired at the end of the last movie.

No he didn't. He said he would if the machine was there. It was destroyed so he didn't retire.

Oh. I thought that him typing his name in the computer and walking out with his coat over his shoulder during the end montage was supposed to symbolize him retiring.

Typing his name into the computer killed the program, and he was all happy, so i think he'll be sticking around.

Oh. I thought that him typing his name in the computer and walking out with his coat over his shoulder during the end montage was supposed to symbolize him retiring.

No, him typing his name in destroyed the computer thing, symbolized by the explosions. He's still at Wayne Enterprises. Did they change the building for Wayne Enterprises in the movie, or was that just a different building? Because the building they show them in for that board meeting (where Wayne is asleep) isn't the same one from Begins.

I think I quite possibly may have outdone myself with this superb Dream Movie.

BATMAN AND ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER
(Feat. Egghead and King Tut)

WARNING: This movie actually does not feel like a Batman movie, more like a science fiction movie....And I'm not saying that in a good way. That was unintentional.

The film takes place not long after the end of TDK. Batman has been condemned, no longer in contact with Commissioner Gordon. Bruce is still mourning over the deaths of close childhood friend Rachel Dawes and Gotham's white knight Harvey Dent.

Dick Grayson/Robin - Patrick Fugit
A mournful young boy whom Batman discovered in the Narrows, being abused by some corrupt police officers. Hours before, his parents had been murdered by a mobster named Anthony Zucco. Through a bond of commonality, Batman adopts Dick and takes him under his wing as his ward - Robin, the Boy Wonder. Grayson has a long history of acrobatics and kickboxing.
normalwhite06.jpg

Renatus Cartesius - Terence Stamp
An intellectual who seeks to control Gotham's criminal underworld. His real name is unknown. He was named after Descartes, the philosopher. He has egg-shaped capsules that lay "psychic eggs" inside the minds of those who....eat them. Or something. I dunno.
terence_stamp.jpg

William "Tut" McElroy - Forest Whitaker
A radiologist who is notorious for putting the dead bodies of his victims through the process of mummification (sometimes even mummifying his enemies alive), which has earned him the nickname "Tut" among the other criminals in Gotham. He may have also been a museum curator in the past, which introduced him to and made him more familiar with mummification. Actually, I'm gonna go full Tanzler with this and say that he's a necrophiliac who encased his love's corpse in wax and plaster. How's that for dark? Who said King Tut was too camp for Nolan's universe?
toronto06portraitv.jpg

Dinah Lance/Black Canary - Erin Cahill
I dunno. Dye her hair or something. I'm tired. I think she's probably part-Irish. I included Black Canary because she seems less campy than Batgirl. And plus she was in All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder, which this is partially based on.
ErinCahill.jpg

Roy Night Wing - Adam Beach
A Native American loanshark who owns Gotham's largest casino, the Mohican. He's in business with Cartesius. He has a very small role.
adambeachblackandwhite.jpg

Anthony "Fats" Zucco - Vince Curatola
A low-level thug working for Sal Maroni. It isn't explained in the film why he killed Dick Grayson's parents. His role is pretty minor, like that of Joe Chill's in Batman Begins.
JohnnySack.jpg

You guys are probably going to say that my movie could have done without King Tut and Egghead. Oh well, I tried my best to make them seem less "camp." I may have completely failed and inadvertently returned Batman to the camp era, but oh well.

KUNGRADU LAYSHUNZ, UVE JUZT BIN MEnTLY RAPED N UR BRAIN'Z ***.

Also, I was going to have Helen Mirren as Leslie Thompkins. But no room for her in the story.

Well... it's different. A Batman movie? Yes. A Nolan Batman movie? I don't think so. Neat idea though.

I'm going a different route with my Batman movie. Not to give too much away but so far Batman joins forces with Jesse Jackson to take down Barack Obama, after stumbling upon the terrible truth that he is the anti-christ. So far Hilary Clinton, Pat Robertson, Jeremiah Wright, Al Gore, and George W. Bush also make appearances. It is shaping up nicely.

That was a joke, right? :sure:

If you're going to do something that outlandish, you should just do Holy Terror, Batman!

It was a joke. But now that I'm thinking about it I don't know...it's pretty tempting. Maybe for kicks and giggles since a lot of the ideas I had have been incorporated into other stories. We will see. :D

I really your idea, Langsta. Since it's set in a sort of dystopian future, you could get really garish with it - splashing thick, tacky TV Batman style all over it in bizarre and horrific ways. I would definitely, definitely see that. Hell, I want to write it. It could be Philip K. Dick's Batman. *****in'.

Mole, I think making Robin a stunt driver and having him convert the Batman bike is a cool modernization. But I don't know what else to say. It doesn't really grab me.

Random, Eva Green's inspired. and I kind of like the idea of Batman training Gothamites to take their city back. and it could potentially move the series into a very cool and very different flavor for whichever director took over after Nolan.

Whew.

I really dig Langsta's idea. Since it's set in a sort of dystopian future, you could get really garish with it - splashing thick, tacky TV Batman style all over it in bizarre and horrific ways. Thanks. You don't have to bull**** me though....my movie has psychic-egg-laying and necrophiliac radiologists who mummify people.

uuhh... yeah.... Exactly. It could take every TV portrayal of Bat-characters and mutate them all neon psychotic cyberpunk. I think that would kick total *** - maybe kick The Dark Knight Return's ***.

You make my movie sound so awesome.:lol:No, but I see what you mean. But that was just two characters. The rest of my cast isn't like that.

Batman: Knightfall

The movie begins with a bunch of criminals dressed as clowns robbing an armoured car or something. Batman arrives and beats the **** out of them. He says they're pathetic. This references the opening of The Dark Knight, where there were both thugs dressed as clowns and Batman imitators. Now they imitate The Joker.

Wayne Manor has been rebuilt and Batman arrives. He has no time to rest. Crime is rapidly evolving across Gotham - the mobs no longer have the power, but the freaks. References to "that monster in the sewers" (Killer Croc) and "the paedophile with the hats" (Mad Hatter) and "the jewel thief" (Catwoman) are mentioned. Alfred tells Bruce he needs to rest or he's going to kill himself fighting both the criminals and the police. Batman is determined to save the city.

The police are still after Batman, Gordon being the reluctant leader of this new Anti-Vigilante Squad. If they didn't spend so much time hunting Batman, they'd be out stopping these other freaks. Harvey Bullock, Renee Montoya, Crispus Allen and Edward Nygma are members of the squad. Bullock thinks Batman is a crook, Montoya thinks he may be innocent and Allen doesn't care either way. Nygma is always at his computer. He is obsessed with Batman.

Tony Zucco, the leader of the only mob family in town is desperate. Batman has completely pulled apart his group. He's got nothing left. The freaks are moving in on his territory. He decides to fight fire with fire - he hires a man who calls himself The Riddler (actually Edward Nygma) to find out exactly who Batman is. Riddler constructs an elaborate and complex riddle spread across Gotham in order to tap into Batman's psyche and figure out exactly who he is.

Batman finds most of his time consumed with this riddle - it taunts him. The detective in him needs to solve it. He knows it's a trap... but he must solve it. He fights more Joker wannabes along the way, except this time, it's harder. It's not just that Batman's tired... they're stronger now. Faster. Smarter. He takes a blood sample and delivers it to Fox. Fox analyses that there's some kind of stamina increasing drug that these guys are using. This is VENOM. Fox, along with Alfred, finally manage to convince Wayne to take some time out and he attends a party, where he meets the lovely Selina Kyle, just as mysterious as he is.

Batman begins tracking down various drug dealers in order to get to the origin of this Venom. He turns to Oswald Cobblepott, an arms dealer with England who is known as "The Penguin". Batman doesn't like him, but there's no way to connect Cobblepott to the various crimes he's committed, especially because he uses a local club, "The Iceclub Lounge", as cover. However, Batman condones Penguin as long as he gives information. Penguin explains he's got nothing to do with the drugs but that a mysterious enforcer has been bringing the Venom into the city and has been killing anyone who opposes him. Yet another thing Batman has to deal with.

Alfred is worried. Bruce is not getting enough sleep. He's pumping himself full of drugs and stimulants to keep himself standing. He even tests the Venom drug on himself... and likes it. But he knows he can't give into it.

The Riddler's plan is working. Batman is getting tired... making mistakes. As he has access to both the mob and the police, Nygma is getting very close to identifying who the Batman is. Not only that, but he's finding flaws in Gotham's history... namely the whole Dent incident. There's also various inaccuracies in Wayne Enterprises' accounts. Just as he's about to figure the riddle out... it all comes crashing down. Someone's interfering with his plan. Someone who's not Batman. Someone who kills. One of Zucco's guys tell him that there's this big guy with a mask, like a Mexican wrestler or something, just killing guys. He has men with them but he doesn't need them. He just kills everyone himself. "He calls himself Bane. And he's coming for you."

Riddler panics... and runs. But not before taking the last of the mob's money. He plans to flee Gotham... anywhere but here. Batman encounters him and makes short work of him. Gordon and the rest of his team capture him. While this is all going on, Bane is entering Zucco's hideout and killing all of his men. Zucco pleads to Bane to make some kind of deal - but Bane doesn't deal with scum like Zucco. He shoots him in the head, claiming that the city is his now.

Batman talks to Penguin again. Cobblepott states that this "Bane" has taken over the underworld. Batman realises he has to stop him now.

He tracks him down. It's not hard. They fight. It is epic. It seems pretty equal... until Bane takes some of the Venom. And Batman is so tired now. He can't fight much longer. And then Bane crushes him. Bones crack. Blood oozes. Batman moans. "Gotham is mine." He then tosses Batman out a window like he was a rag doll.

Batman is dying. He knows it. Alfred picks him up. The two reach Wayne Manor in time. Alfred does what he can. Bruce is determined to go back, that maybe with the Venom drug he'll be able to beat him. Alfred yells at him that Bruce is going to kill himself. It's too dangerous for Bruce to be in Gotham now. So he leaves.

But he has a plan.

A month passes. Batman is missing. Bane has taken over the city. He controls everything. He's even muscled Cobblepott out of his guns. Gordon and his team can do nothing. Everyone now answers to Bane. Gotham is closed off by the National Guard - "it's too dangerous to go in there now". The citizens want a resolution, they want safety, they want hope... they want Batman. Gordon finally admits in a press conference that it wasn't Batman who murdered all those men... but Dent. Batman is the hero. He has always been.

Gordon states he is going to retire. Without Batman, Gotham has no hope. It is doomed.

But Batman has a plan. During the missing month, Wayne has left Gotham... and retrained. He has made himself stronger. Faster. Smarter. All without the help of the Venom drug. He's investigated Bane... he is the Anti-Batman. He served his father's life sentence in prison on the corrupt island of Santa Prisca. He quickly learned to fight to survive. He took over the prison. And then he escaped. Using the experimental military drug Venom, he took over the nation. He was a conqueror. And then he heard about Gotham and the Batman... and finally found an opponent that was a challenge to him.

Wayne follows Bane's life, training along the way, until he is sure he is ready. He cuts off the Venom distribution outside of Gotham (hints to the League of Shadows - they are using Venom to destroy corrupt cities) and then arrives back in Gotham. He is greeted by Fox, who has crafted a new Batmobile for him... and it is the best vehicle ever seen on screen. As Batman, he confronts Gordon, telling him to be ready. Gordon gathers his squad... but this time they're not going after Batman, they're going after Bane.

Batman confronts Bane once more. Bane is pleased. He wants Batman to improve. He is Bane's only equal. They fight. This time, he is not tired. He is as strong as Bane. He is as fast. He is as smart. But he also has hope. He defeats Bane, and Bane wants death. Batman doesn't kill. Bane escapes, and takes vast quantities of the Venom drug. He tries to fight Batman again, in a state of pure rage, but can't. He collapses. He can't feel anything. He's having a Venom overdose. Gordon and his team arrive to find a dead Bane. Batman is not there.

With Bane gone, the city now again turns to Batman. He has brought hope back to Gotham. He has saved them all. The mob is gone. The Venom drug is destroyed. And the police are back doing what they should have always done. Gordon turns on the new Batsignal, a warning to all of the villains that are still out there...

Riddler sits in Arkham. He's not insane. Just because he won't share his secret, it doesn't mean he's insane. He knows who Batman is and now he has the advantage...

The mob is gone. There is no one to claim the title. Cobblepott is alive. He has protection. Batman can't touch him. The underworld is there for the taking...

Ubu, a member of the League of Shadows, informs his boss that Bane is dead and the Batman has returned to Gotham. Talia Al Ghul steps out from the shadows, exclaiming it's time to do it her way.

Back at the Manor, Wayne finally rests. Alfred informs him he has a date with Selina Kyle tonight. He pulls up a computer file and asks Bruce what it is. "Insurance," Bruce states. "I realised Gotham needs a hero. And I need to make sure I have a plan for when I'm no longer around." Alfred asks: "A sidekick?" Bruce replies: "Something like that."

And in the dark streets of Gotham, young Dick Grayson waits. His family's death the result of the Bane/Mob fiasco. He prepares himself. He wants revenge.

END.

Tony Zucco is played by Paul Adelstein (Kellerman on Prison Break). He's played a vicious bastard on that TV show and now he's playing a cruel gangster in this. He also has that slimey look to him and I think he'd fit in well with the Falcone/Maroni crowd. It's also a nice little Prison Break cameo (Mahone in TDK).

Oswald Cobblepott is played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. His role is quite minor in this, but it's open for any sequels down the line when he really becomes a force to be reckoned with. He was rumoured to play Cobblepott before, and I've thought it was a brilliant idea ever since.

Edward Nygma is played by Guy Pearce. He has that strange severity to him... it looks like he's got a lot going on. His brain is always ticking. Plus, he's worked with Nolan before. I think this is a great pick and probably very likely if Nolan does The Riddler in a sequel.

Bane is played by Kevin Durand. He played Martin Keamy in Lost, so you know he has the big, manipulative scary **** down. While I don't think he's that great a choice, I'd rather pick someone original than go with Bardem like everyone else. He wears a mask the whole time too.

Selina Kyle is played by Rosario Dawson. I'm thinking a combination of her characters in Sin City and Death Proof. She is also Catwoman... just not on screen. Catwoman is mentioned but not shown. She may be in sequels. Right now, she's just a mysterious girl that Bruce has an eye on. Maybe Alfred will do some research on her. How did a former prostitute become such a wealthy girl? By stealing jewels, of course.

Dick Grayson appears at the end (and probably during Bane's takeover of Gotham) and is played by Liam Aiken. He is young and I think would play a great Robin. TOG cast him in the previous Batman thread and I thought it was great. He's a talented young actor and would fit this role well.

Woah. I am tired now. I said I probably wasn't going to do this, but I did anyway. While there are lots of bits that I'm not happy with, I think it's alright. By already trying to do a movie and fit it into the tight restrictions of the Nolan universe you're going to have trouble. And of course everyone is going to have Bane or The Riddler or whoever. I guess that means we all know what we want in the real sequel. :D

Also, I think the idea of Batman taking on the entire nation of Santa Prisca so awesome. I want to steal it for my movie where Bruce realises he's going to need to train harder then ever before... and then ignites a gang war with himself caught in the middle of it. He then proceeds to defeat everyone. Wayne getting himself imprisoned under an alias (Matches Malone?) would also be great, especially if he reached Bane's cell and there was a giant bat symbol carved into it. And then he could escape from prison.
