Ultimate Origins series discussion [Bendis/Guice] [spoilers]

I think Bryan Singer's "run" as well as Marvel getting all the UU guys to focus on 616 was a problem. Basically, I think the imprint was handled very poorly on a managerial basis.

And I think that happened when Bill Jemas left.

Basically, everything at Marvel went downhill when he left.

But ultimately the 616 universe is their bread and butter while the UU is just interesting side experiment, really having a large contuinity has benefits as well as drawbacks. With more characters to draw on the 616 u8niverse tell bigger stroies (like Civil war and the death of captain America).

Besides the general public is more familiar with the 616 universe anyway, almost all of the cartoons and video games based on Marvel characters are based on the 616 universe. So you really can't blame marvel for focusing more its bread and butter.

Could be. Though the first 3-4 years of USM and UXM were both quite good (though thats more the writers/artists). But at least that early on, the HUGE, DOOM-FILLED EVENTS hadn't leached into the Ultimate-verse, at least beyond Ultimate Six and Ultimate War, which were more simple mini/crossovers as opposed to the big crap like Gah Lak Tus or Ultimate Power, or the upcoming Ultimatum.

I do agree with you, though (at least as much as I can given my limited knowledge of the subject). From what I've read of the behind-the-scenes hullabaloo at Marvel during 2000, 2001 (right around Jemas' ousting), Jemas had basically crafted the idea of a re-launch of Spidey (calling it Ground Zero at the time...glad that changed).

Gah Lak Tus was what a ultimate event should of been.

while i only read the Gah Lak Tus (on an embarrassing side not, i didn't get the name... i totally thought Ultimate Nightmare and Ultimate Secret had been building up to Galactus until I read the name Gah Lak Tus and i was like, oh that's dumb, who's that? then about 2 months later I said the name out loud...)

anyway, i only read the Gah Lak Tus trilogy once right after it came out, I remember liking Nightmare, and thinking Secret was okay, but I didn't like Extinction, and i really didn't like the Vision mini that happened afterwards.

but i usually like Ellis' stuff, so maybe i'll have to go back and reread it.

(but at least is made sense in continuity)

Geez - are you from Canada or something?

My thoughts on issue 4:

There was no explicit mention of an infinity like effect on Fury. Just an inference of his lack of aging.

I was disappointed that there was no mention of Fury's strength and durability has been diminished. An apparent healing factor except with his eye, but I would like to see it mentioned that the SSS effected him differently and therefore his is no longer in CAPs Superhero Class.

The revelation that the first hulk out killed Parker's parents left me neutral.

I just bought this today so I haven't read it yet but.........what?

I thought in clone saga it was revealed that the parkers died in a plane crash that was set up by Roxxon or whatever company Parker/Brock were working for.

Am I wrong?

According to USM: the Game, the Parker were killed by Edward Brock Sr. in the Venom suit.

Nope. Bendy just doesn't care.

*sigh* looks that way.

I wonder if we could just have Millar and Ellis write the whole Ultimates line.

I mean, I could see another writer coming along and messing with continuity established on Bendis' run. But for Bendis to do this with continuity he himself established....not even that long ago. Well, that is just stoopid.

Wait wait wait.....I thought Bendis wrote the game also. And that the game was "canon" in the series? (I never played the game so I have no idea what transpires in it)

So which is it?

Plane crash, Brock-Venom or Hulk?

Well, technically, Brock-Venom caused the plane crash.

My speculation is that the Roxxon story was a cover to explain those deaths. Project Rebirths screw ups can't reveal the truth now can they....

Just a note: I don't follow ultimate Spider-man. Perhaps I should start. I love the Ultimates line focus on the genetic "arms race".

Ok....but cover up which death? Hulk killed them or Venom-Brock killed them? I assume UO wants it to be Hulk cover up.

You should. It is second only to Ultimates (not U3) in terms of quality month in and month out.

I realize that there were contradictions in #4, but I really enjoyed this issue.

Be warned, first 60 issues are great but it really drops in quality and hits an all time low at 100

By the way, is it Avengers or Ultimates mansion? The summary at the begining listed it as "avengers" but "ultimates" in-story.

what are you talking about?
I just played the USM game again about a month ago and watched all of the cut scenes. According to the game the Parkers and the Brocks died together in a plane crash. NOT caused by anybody in a venom suit and possibly caused by Trask (NOT Roxxon) sabotaging the palne.

This could have been a cover-up, but it begs the question, then how did the Brocks die? And when were the Parkers and the Brocks working on the venom suit? before Richard Parker was working on the super soldier serum? That doesn't really seem to fit.

Not to mention that Banner turned himself into the Hulk 3 times now (why would he do that?)

And it makes for a more interseting story if the Parkers and the Brocks died because Trask was trying to gain a SHIELD contract with the venom suit than if they got killed by the hulk. It's still connected, but the story has more dimentions that way.

*sigh*
