New Marvel Shows

I mentioned a while I wanted a Ultimate spider-man one with each series been 1 arc. However I now realise that would not really work for tv so here is my suggestion :

Punisher - Now for this we need some liberalities and we could need some kind of main cast that can stick. It can't really be Max or main series as one thing a tv show needs is surprises and twists.

How I see it working is like The Sarah Connor Chronicles. NO this is not a debate on the quality of the tv show so don't start that. I mean that in It's an action series about the never ending war. That is what Punisher series needs IMO. It needs action, A good branching story BUT with the "never ending fight" feel to it.

Now I have not read that many punisher comics to talk about characters it should have ect... However I know about the over-all theme and that it's one of the series of comics that would be great as a tv show.

Think about it for a second. Spider-man, X-men, Fantastic four, Hulk and more all require now days cgi to stay a float. Having seen How the budget got cut in smallville I wouldn't want to see a Spider-man series where he can't web swing or Green goblin can't fly. X-men they tried as Mutant X and the effects were piss-poor..

Punisher you need guns and explosions. Effect wise that's pretty standard as Soap operas can do that all the time. So this then takes the money they save effects wise and can put it in to decent camera men, good writers , good directors and a good cast. That makes the series but fun to follow.

So yeah that is my thoughts on Marvel shows.

A Punisher show would work best with no rogues gallery. just mob boss after mob boss and some occasional nick fury drop ins.

Isn't that pretty much what Punisher is? I mean he doesn't have a rogues gallery to begin with.

Put David Simon in charge and we have a deal.

Oh... and mole... My ears are bleeding because of what you typed. I think I have a concussion.

I disagree. I think his villains should show up as main villain of series e.g Jigsaw as the villain of one series. but do not call him Jigsaw. Simply call him Billy (or William as billy is short for it.) Russo.

It could work very well. E.g The Maggia hire him like comics to kill the Punisher. Punisher leaves him horribly scared. Season final he shows up for revenge in a big way. Not once do they call him Jigsaw (of course we know who he is. Even call the episode Jigsaw if you need to) and It just works for a big showdown.

Or end of season we seem get horribly scared. Following season is the "punisher is framed story" with no one knowing who has done it. then end of that season we get showdown.

It works but I think some new villains need making too. E.g Lois and clark made Tempus. Why can't a punisher show? But at the same time ignore his actual villains and people will get mad. So both is best way.

Because what you outline seems to be a pretty soap operatic format for the Punisher, which is the exact opposite of what needs to be done. If the Punisher is done right, it's not going to be network primetime.

It was not "soap operatic" at all. Firstly I mentioned what it would be. Also how can your ears bleed from reading? Wouldn't it be your eyes as that's what you use for reading?

no, jigsaw sucks. and what is the point of revenge when you're already hired to kill punisher? I don't know if that is how revenge works.

The Wire kind of theme works best. Punisher as a seemingly normal street denizen who murders street pimps and registered sex offenders. Also mafioso's and yakuza's.

The problem is what makes Punisher unique in comics, makes him pretty standard in the world of tv and movies. How many movies have there been about a vilgante who blows away street scum? A lot.

well, it's not like we want to recycle every ****ing Knight Rider plot and substitue Michael Knight with Frank Castle. Although that would be badass.

plus, we're talking about tv show adaptations, not movies like you say.

OK, let's talk TV adaptions, Punisher is a psychopath serial killer who only targets criminals, what does that sound like to most non comic fans? Dexter, of course. A lot of non comic fans would think Punisher is just a Dexter clone. Face it Punisher like concepts have been done in movies and TV for decades now, so its hard to seem unique with Punisher on the screen, unlike say within a comic book.

My problem with the Terminator TV show format is that it's a pretty standard, generic route to go. If you make the Punisher the hero of the piece, then that means either toning down the character's intensity so much that he's really not the Punisher anymore and just falls into generic action hero format. He's just Jack Bauer. If you make him the Ennis Punisher we all know and love, you alienate the audience by having an unsympathetic psychopath in the principal role. Taxi Driver was great, but Taxi Driver: The TV Show would have been awful.

The Punisher's a psychopath. There's no getting around that. Sometimes we can take perverse pleasure in what he does, looking at it from a distance, knowing it takes place in a fantasy world. Garth Ennis kept Frank Castle in the scope of the camera. That works fine for comics, but I don't think it would transition so well to television.

If the Punisher is going to work in any serious manner, then you need to temper him with characters who aren't part of his struggle. There's already been an extensive cast built around the character with JW Bridge, Soap and Von Richtofen, and the various and sundry copycats and criminals that color his world. They should be the lead characters. They should be our point of entry, and their perceptions should color our understanding of who the Punisher is.

The problem is what makes Punisher unique in comics, makes him pretty standard in the world of tv and movies. How many movies have there been about a vilgante who blows away street scum? A lot.

Everything's been done. A lot. Look at how many ******* cop shows are on the air. I think your problem (and I've seen this other places too) is that you're too dismissive. You cast away ideas without looking at the fresh, creative opportunities they offer. David Simon and HBO could give the concept the respect it deserves. Show a character who's gone over the edge and given into his baser instincts, and temper it with the complications of the real world. Most criminals aren't irredeemable, sadistic monsters, and even the ones that are have a reason for being that way. Show us the impact a character like the Punisher would have on the various strata of the city. Broach the complicated ethical considerations of the whole high concept. The Punisher isn't the primary character. He's a force of nature that seeps into the professional and personal lives of the real leads.

Punisher's hard to do in comic books, too. Which is why it took us decades to get a proper riff on the character.

And really... a Dexter clone? I can't see anybody possibly believing that. That's just nonsense.

I think you'd be surprised to find out that most plenty of people care about quality storytelling more than they do about the higher concept of the show. But when you get down to it, everything in TV is a riff on something else.
