I thought that was Mysterio disapearing without leaving a trace for the police to follow. He'll be back as soon as he sets up his base somewhere else.
It made it very apparent that the only purpose of this first arc was to set up the new status quo.

What is leading you all to believe that Mysterio is Wade Wilson? I remember one of you said that a bit ago... What evidence is there of that?
Evidence? There is none, it's just a hunch.
Remember when Bendis made Deadpool talk to his audience on television, making him look like he was breaking the fourth wall? Mysterio reminds me of this, he loves exposition and talking to an audience he cannot see. How many monologues were there where he talked for no one but the reader?
There is also the illusions and the use of technology. Deadpool used a kind of illusion technology to change his appearance, and there is the whole thing about the Reapers and the fact that he was himself augmented through technology.
And finally, Mysterio really, really wants to get Spidey out of the picture, and quickly, it's almost an obsession. And Deadpool, in his arc, gradually shifted from mutant hater to being annoyed to no end by that "pest" Spider-Man.
I believe he set up Wade Wilson as a madman who progressively get a strong grip against Spidey, yes. Bendis has never completely forgot any of his plot points, even the one about Peter's parents, he got "wrong" in Origins, but then got it right in the War of the Symbiotes arc.
Never forgets a plot point? Even Geldoff?
I think this is giving him too much credit. I have really enjoyed most of Bendis' work. I love New Avengers, I've loved pretty much all of USM. However, time and time again we have seen Bendis play fast and loose with continuity and he has never been one to make really long connections (I honestly feel like Secret Invasion was Bendis leaving himself a lot of open hooks and figuring it out along the way. Something clicked and he used those hooks to tie it all together. The world may never know.).
I don't care about his 616 work, acutally. I was speaking about his Ultimate work. Which is not perfect, mind you, but in Deadpool case I don't see what could go wrong : Deadpool wasn't supposed to be involved in another book, he was a Spidey villain first and foremost. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch of imagining him becoming Mysterio. For me, it fits.
I love it all, too.You are so wrong. I love everything about it now.
