No one asked for it, but here it is. A thread all about Magic the Gathering!

Here's a link to my two favourite (and by far most expensive) decks:

Elves

Goblins

It's not very often that I feel really nerdy posting things on here. But right now, I feel really nerdy.

I have a self made dragon deck, black and red.

I also owned a white green deck when I was in high school (1995) and it was awesome. That deck got stolen from me though.

What's important is that Friday is not part of this thread. :p

I don't build decks anymore because I can't be arsed. What I do is by a 4x playset of all the commons and uncommons of the sets and just draft them. :)

Ice, there's a bunch of ways to learn. I believe the easiest might be Duels of the Planeswalkers which is a video game. I don't know what consoles it's on. Magic is an expensive hobby, but I think that's one way to learn. Another is intro packs. But the best might be going to a local gaming shop on a Friday and getting someone to teach you. :)

It runs Bladewing the Risen, bladewings Thrall, and Dragonspeaker Shaman, right?

I had that happen once. It was a R/G Land Destruction deck back in Onslaught/Mirrodin standard (Think late 2003) and it had playsets of Birds of Paradise, Wooded Foothills, Ravenous Baloth, all back when they were money cards. I'm almost positive I know who did it too. A Kid with a cooked head asked to look at it earlier, then it dissapeared when he did. I saw him once about 5 years later (seriously, his head was crooked, he's pretty distinctive) and considered confronting him about it but decided against it.

I don't have a link to it online but my favortie deck is my foiled out Zombie commander deck. Its not all that good, but it makes me happy.

My favorite deck I played in a tournament was probably THIS. Damn thats worth a lot now... That tournament was insane. We drove to Detroit for it, which is a good six hours away, then I had to play Patrick Chapin in round 4 or 5, and this was a most a month after he took second at Worlds. We ended up drawing. Then look at that top 8. Chapin, Phillips, Boggemes, Yurchick, thats a Pro Tour top 8, not a PTQ.

I buy a common/uncommon playset when each set comes out but I don't use them to draft, I just got tired of a few random uncommons being $3-5 a pop. I can get a set for about $20 and not have to worry about anything else.

Duels is probably the best way to get familiar, and its on the XBOX and PS3 as a downloadable game. After that just go to the shop and play some. most players are friendly and would love to bring someone else into the fold.

...one of us. one of us. one of us.

There's only one comic shop in my city and it's really small so games are done. I'll check out the game for the PS3.

Needs Buried Alive. And probably some Mana Rocks.

I know, its almost a commander/EDH deck.

Does anyone else here ever play Commander/EDH? I loves it.

I like the one offs, makes the opponent not know what's going to happen.

Granted, it also makes me not know what's going on, but that's the fun of it.

It is ridiculously cool. I'm also digging the curses, the devils, and I really like the transforming Demons.

I haven't played for fun or anything going on six years now. I've bought cards here and there, but nothing extreme.

The introduction of purple rare cards and the planeswalkers makes me laugh though.

Well the purple rarity was only for Time Spiral to denote the hidden reprint set. Now Mythic Rares have been in effect for a while. I'm still not a big fan of them.

Planeswalkers... I'm still not sure R&D has a handle on them. Now they're deffinatly getting better. We just need more Tezzerets and Koths and less Jace The Mindsculpers.

I've watched this game from afar. Never got into it, although I did get a starterdeck of every color at some point (they were free).
I really admire the idea and the company though. They've created a game that you need to keep pumping money into if you want to keep competing.
'Have a great deck? Nope, not anymore; a new set of cards came out, your deck is hopelessly outdated.' And fans happily buy new cards. And all WotC has to do
is print some new cards for a fraction of the money the fans are paying for it.

You see it a lot in MMO games too. You've already payed for the original game (starterdeck), but if you want to keep up with other players you need to spend money
to get the update (boosters). Someone is getting incredibly rich off this and I tip my hat to that person.

That's really only true for tournament play. Some of my favourite cards are old. My elf deck (which is not tournament legal) is nigh-unbeatable and mostly made of older cards.
