Guardians of the Galaxy by Brian Michael Bendis (spoilers)

I agree. I don't the costumes are all too great. They try too much to make the,m look Tony Stark-y

So after being pretty up on the movie I decided to re-read the first TPB of this that I got as a digital code redemption. Its still terrible.

What's bad about it? It's way different than what was before it, but I'm loving it regardless. Bendis's dialogue is great as always, he has a really good handle on the characters, loving the interactions with Quill's dad, and Rocket is hilarious.

Those are the things that make it terrible to me.

Bendis's dialogue *isn't* great and is basically the same as every book he writes, no matter what the setting or circumstance. So much of the dialogue he writes feels like it could be swapped out and replaced with dialogue from any other books. Too many of his characters have the same speech tics and mannerisms. It's inappropriate, bad writing, and gets old.

And that goes with the good handle of characters. That's funny to me that you said that because I think Bendis has the WORST handle on the characters he writes than just about every other writer I've read. Everyone is exactly the same.

I want to drop this after seeing the movie because it's so bad and I don't want it to taint the characters in my mind but I feel like it's too important to what's going on in the MU as a whole and I need to keep up on it.

I hate quills dad. I hate that he went from basically being non-existent to being a major player in the galactic level with zero story resin for it. Bendis just needed him so he's there and apparently can tell the Kree to screw off but couldn't bother to help against the annihilation wave, or s against the phalnex. And I hate that star Lord is a bundle of daddy issues in it. And rocket isn't funny. He's basically just a sociopath in it.

And I miss when Groot could talk man! I know that came before this but I really do.

And as e said Bendis eyes everyone like they're from new York, which helped Daredevil add hurts every other project he's on, this one included.

And the costumes suck. They just suck. They look like something out of tron or the new 52. Gimme star lords old suit and Gammorah's skull clap ave some God damned personality to them instead of genetic jumpsuits.

Ok, I'm done.

I'm sticking with it to see how he explains Star-Lord's return from the Cancerverse next issue but then I think I'm done with it. It's a boring chore to read.

I actually thought #23 was pretty decent. I hadn't read the solits for it so I didn't know they were getting into the Venom symbiote's origin. It was kind of interesting and I'm surprised it took them this long to get into it. It made Flash's addition to the team make a little more sense.

Seems like I'm the only one who thought it was any good, though, because most review sites are tearing it apart for being too short given the buildup.
