Marvel Cinematic Universe - Timeline

Madani's bio in Episode 9 puts her return from Kandahar in 2015 as well. Given how late in the year the Kandahar incident would be, based on Frank's birthday, 2014 seems fine, but it probably wasn't any earlier than that (just a note in case of future timeline shifts).

As for the Earthquake and other Defenders events not getting a mention, I'm pretty sure the establishing shots of the construction site early on in Punisher showed that they were in Brooklyn, rather than Manhattan where DD/JJ/LC/Rand are. So they were far enough away that no one brought it up.
 
I noticed that you put the Stark Expo promos in the timeline. I've been advocating that forever, so that made my heart flutter just a little bit haha

From Runaways 1x02 when Kip Pardue's character is checking Leslie's computer:

(The extra 29's and 31 make it a little more confusing. The calendar also remains selected as "Today" even when Kip's character is flipping through the days of that month, so I'm at a loss.)

If this is a clip from the show, I would guess it would be sometime around November since Alex comments on "the gang being back together".

I know the MCU's calendar likely has different dates from the real world since newspaper dates don't always line up with the real world with whatever the real world is, but disregarding there being two 29s in the calendar, it seems like this is the second of two straight months that have 31 days.

Assuming that the months in the MCU have the same amount of days as the real world (not necessarily the case), this means it's either January or August.

I haven't seen the show, but if there aren't clear indications of what the time of year is (which there probably are), perhaps this could be a starting point.

In the 3rd episode of The Runaways, Nico makes a comment like "we haven't gone out as a family since the Obama administration". So, maybe this one is more present day?

Depends on when Obama was president.

Remember that Ellis is currently the president in the MCU, and Iron Man 3, Winter Soldier and Civil War (since Ellis appeared in the tie-in WHiH videos) took place during his administration. Apparently he was also in Agents of SHIELD.

So it could be anywhere after 2012, really.

I think that was definitely the intent, to utilize that dialogue to place the series around present day. Since it takes place in Los Angeles its tough to determine time of year based on weather, only that it occurs sometime during the school year (they go to a private school but those generally operate around same time as public school year, which begins mid August and runs through mid June it seems). So, anytime after August since its probably set in 2017 (possibly 2016).

Obviously I think this is merely a continuity oversight on behalf of the writers, but this is a perfectly valid and logical explanation.
 
I think I pinpointed an approximate date.

Near the beginning of the first episode, Alex is playing the first Star Wars Battlefront game, which came out in November 2015. In several lines of dialogue, Amy is said to have disappeared "two years ago". If the game's loading screen is anything to go by, she had to have disappeared exactly two years or more after that game was released. It can't be less than that based on the game's "day/week/month/year" date estimation system (ex. 7 weeks ago, 8 months ago, etc.)

So I would guess around November 2017; especially if that Thanksgiving scene ends up in the show given the context that the Pride approached them during the feast.

Nice catch! As for the Thanksgiving short, I'm 99% sure its an original promo for the show, utilizing the Thanksgiving setting due to the show premiering couple days before the holiday. For now, I've got that promo on the timeline after the first season, though if the season spans a long period of time (anything more than a few weeks) I'll place it between episodes.
 
Yeah, the Obama thing is an error. Based on the dialogue from the recording of Ellis at the Cap exhibit in Winter Soldier, he was President in April 2012 when Cap woke up. Meaning he likely was elected in '08. You could shoehorn Obama in somehow, but I don't think he's ever been a President in the MCU, although he definitely does exist and we can assume he was indeed a senator.

But even though it's an error, it still gives an idea of when the creators want it to take place.

Iron Man 2 features a parody of the Obama "HOPE" poster, so Obama probably at least ran for president. In Winter Soldier, Steve also has a book about Obama on his bookshelf (although it may have been a mistake by the prop department).

Or maybe presidential election years are different in the MCU. It's not an ideal solution, but it wouldn't be the first time such an assumption was made due to contradictions between the MCU's timeline and the real world's.

Random notes:

Saw Ragnarok again, tried to get a clue about placement from the NYC scenes but didn't get much. With it clearly being several months after Doctor Strange (February 2017), I'd say it's safe to say it's Fall based on the clothes everyone is wearing. Also, Avengers Tower is under reconstruction at this point. About a year after its sale. (Even going by the erroneous Homecoming timeline, which I suppose places Homecoming in September/October 2017, Ragnarok would have to be November 2017 to allow for the tower remodeling to begin and still stay close enough to the two years since Ultron parameter.)

We'd discussed earlier that the mid-credit scene could have taken place after a time jump. Paying close attention the dialogue, that could still work with them discussing the decision as they slowly get closer to Earth, although it looks like the remnants of Asgard are still close behind them, unfortunately. Thanos' ship obstructed whatever it was though, so I'll have to wait until I see it again to confirm.

Lastly, the first 17 minutes of AOS season 5 are up on YouTube. Looks like they got transported to the future, but it's all a mystery. Before they're abducted, in a scene taking place concurrently with the final minutes of 4x22, a grunt talks about lying to his wife about being at a fantasy draft party even though it's "middle of the season". They don't specify a sport though, so I guess we can assume he meant hockey or basketball.

Might not mean anything, but Valkyrie's hair is visibly a lot longer in the new Vanity Fair pictures.
 
Disney and Fox have re-entered negotiations for Disney to acquire Fox's entertainment division properties (including X-Men and Fantastic Four)

Even better, it seems it very well may happen. I knew the original negotiations ending were merely a ploy (by both sides likely) to increase/decrease perceived value in the others' eyes. Always knew it was too lucrative for Disney to pass up, especially in regards to their Marvel Cinematic Universe IP, not to mention the continued franchise potential of various other Fox held IPs.
 
So in the Infinity War trailer,
there is a scene with Peter Parker in a school bus, meaning it likely takes place during the school year.

If they're still planning on having the Homecoming sequel be set during his junior year, that places Infinity War (and likely Avengers 4) either between March and June 2017, or between September 2017 and June 2018,
unless time travel is involved.
 
I think it's a safe bet to assume the Spidey sequel will muck up continuity.

But I remember reading that Homecoming 2 will begin mere seconds after the end of A4. So if there's not a big time jump after IW, it could all take place around May 2018 and still work out to be his junior year. If A4 ends up being in late 2018 or even 2019, it'd have to be his senior year.

That's just going off of the "correct" timeline. Going by the whack Sony timeline that puts Homecoming in 2017... hurts my head to think about lol.
