I have to say that Speck's 'Shaw Theory' seems well thought out to me. I wouldn't consider it a canon, but it's well-formulated.
What do you think about this?
Do you guys have headcanon/explanation as to why it wasn't until 2000s that discussions about mutants began in Congress, proposing the Mutant Registration Act as an emerging issue?

They've been be knowing since the 1960s, such as in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, Magneto's involvement in JFK's death, and Mystique's assassination of Trask.

The real-life explanation is that mutants were a recent phenomenon when the first X-Men movie was made.

So it was a plot hole.

I know Shaw's Theory solved this, which is a good theory, but I'd like an explanation without the theory.

AFAIK it's just because there was a song playing on the radio that came out in the 2000s, and the start of the movie says something along the lines of "in the not too distant future" which would place the movie in 2002, based on its release date

I'm new to this website but I just wanted to share something I've been working on for a while now. This document is a complete day by day breakdown of all 14 X-Men movies (or it will be once I've finished it). As well as attempting to fix every single continuity error I could think of. To do this I had to cheat a little and say certain movies are in separate timelines but I came up with theories for how those timelines were created and how it can still work with the logic set up in DP&W.
Basically my timeline goes like this:

Timeline 1
Origins
X1
X2
X3
The Wolverine
Logan

Timeline 2
First Class
DOFP
Apocalypse
Dark Phoenix
New Mutants

Timeline 3
Deadpool trilogy

I explain all this in immense detail in this document

My headcanon is until late 90s-early 2000s there isn't so much number of mutants, at least that manifested to the main public, small % of mutants, then start to become more/they start to manifested more in public, which caused attention to Robert Kelly and others to be one of the people who started a big anti-mutant movement in late 90s.

The population already knew about mutants way before, because of JFK's death with Magneto involvement and Trask's death by Mystique, it's not a new phenomeon in 2000s, the public awareness of mutants are not low, but before they didn't see that are a major issue, since just few are knowing to major public (Magneto and Mystique, for example). Mutants involvement in Cuba Missile Crisis in 1962 are covered up to main public.

Since 70s didn't occurred major events involving mutants, ocurred some, but not to much dangerous (I think when Cyclops's powers manifested in his school, causing a no lethal incident), so people lived with mutants. Kelly are a congressman in 90s who start to discussed about mutants, by the time of X1 he is senator and then he proposing The Mutant Registration Act in 2000s.

I think this headcanon works.

Honestly, it could just be that what happened in Cuba became declassified in the 2000s, which led to the general public being much more aware of them and thus it was the perfect thing the government could "fix" instead of actually helping their countries (Google red herring fallacy)

That's the boring answer, but it seems the most likely one to me

But Magneto involvement in JFK's death (he didn't kill him, he was there to save him) and Mystique kill Bolivar Trask are awareness to public, two mutants involved in assassination.

Public perception would be very different to that of "mutants". Think of it from their perspective. Someone can move objects with their mind, and a blue woman who killed, then seemingly vanished. My first thought wouldn't be "Evolution has caused there to be a gene that can make people do things that have a massive range, despite only being one gene and not numerous"

Mutants in X1 aren't a new discovery. The public has known about them for decades through isolated events like The Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK's assassination, Trask's death, and Xavier's thesis. For most of the 20th century, to major public, mutants were seen as extremely rare, maybe around 0.1% of the population and their appearances were treated as unusual, one-off cases rather than a broader trend.

From the 1970s through the 2000s, mutant incidents were mostly small-scale and localized, reinforcing the idea that mutants were anomalies, not a political issue. By the 2000s, however, mutant powers began appearing more frequently and more publicly. This shift led politicians like Robert Kelly to reframe mutants as a growing, unpredictable population rather than rare individuals.

In X1, what's new isn't the existence of mutants, but the fear that they're no longer rare, controllable, or safely hidden. That's why just in 2000s comes The Mutant Registration Act.

I was think, what you guys think makes Erik split up his friendship with Charles again?, he was with him recruting Jean, which is when school reopen, after get closed in 1965-1966, due to Vietnam War.

I think it's because Charles didn't wanted Jean to have full access of her powers/Phoenix. So he leaves X-Mansion.

My Erik/Magneto's Original Timeline is like this:

1977 - Erik is released from prison, when the state learns that he is innocent of didn't kill JFK. Charles and Erik makes amends, returning their friendship. Charles, with Hank and Erik, built the Cerebro of original trilogy.

1978 - Xavier reopen school. Charles and Erik visit Grey's residence. Jean Grey joins school. Xavier and Erik have a discussion about Jean's powers. Erik decides to leave, to not get involved in school, but not leaving on bad terms with Charles, Erik lives as normal civilian. Same year, Mystique escapes Trask Industries custody, Charles and Raven sibling relationship ended.

1980s-1990s - Anti-Mutant movement increse, this cause Erik to returning to be Magneto, then he reforms Brotherhood of Mutants, with Mystique, Sabretooth and Toad. With this, Xavier restart The X-Men, with Scott, Jean, Storm, and Beast, to faced then. Erik acting behind the scenes, instead in field.

2002 - Robert Kelly have a idea to proposed ''The Mutant Registration Act''. X1 events.

2003 - X2: X-Men United events.

2006 - X-Men: The Last Stand events.

2015 - The Wolverine post-credits scene.

2023 - X-Men Days of Future Past's dark future.

What do you guys think?

I found this March 16th date in X2 (top left corner). I used this date to place the second movie in my version of the timeline. X1 has to be early November to avoid it being in the complete dead of winter.

I don't know if anyone here has read the novelisations of the first 2 movies but heres what I found in regards to the timeline. The X1 novel repeatedly refers to the time period as being winter, it also describes Jean as being in her early 30's. The X2 novel refers to the first movie multiple times as having happened 'months ago'. It also said that the night Mystique injects the guard with iron was a Saturday. We know this happened the night before Magneto's prison escape which is where the March 16th date was found. This would therefore make it Sunday March 16th which fits perfectly in 2003.

Guys I have a doubt. William Stryker is describe as "military scientist", this mean he have a science formation/graduation?, like biology, engineer, genetics, etc, so he is a scientist/doctor, besides being military (Major/Colonel). When he did this, specific? He concilate both science and army.

I think this explain his friendship with Dr. Bolivar Trask, both are scientist, when Stryker learn about mutants in 1962, he meets Trask and both studies mutants together, later Stryker became Trask's right hand, but not a official employee of Trask Industries, send mutants to Trask studies.

Stryker participate of Korean War and Vietnam War (Have medals of both wars).

William Stryker is born 1933. He had 30 in 1962 (First Class). 40 in 1973 (Origins prologue/DOFP). 46 in 1979 (Origins). 50 in 1983 (Apocalypse). 55 in 1988 (Weapon X flashbacks in X1/X2). 70 in 2003 (X2).

I'd say he just gets a PhD at university, we know he dabbles in science anyway. Occum's Razor, I believe
PhD of which specific subject?, biology?, just one, Right?

We known he also have a team of scientists later work with him in X2, Origins, Apocalypse.

I always view Stryker to be just a military (Major/Colonel), who was in charge of mutant experiments, he himself is not really scientist, not formed scientific areas, but I think he obtain knowledge about mutants through Bolivar Trask, in their partnership and have scientific team with him (he have we see in X-Men: Origins in Weapon X and Weapon XI), this made him considerate a "military scientist", because of him been military and been involved in experiements (Adamantium and mutants).

But this is what I think.

Other thing I always think, how Magneto made that machine of X1? We know he learn how to build his helmets, he get knowledge through the Russians scientists who made Sebastian Shaw's helmet, also to put protections around in his hideouts, like that mirrors in Shaw's submarine, he manipulate metal to shape in helmet form. But that machine he could ask someone to made to him? Forge maybe?

Also for me, he learned about Rogue, through Caliban, in X1.

Thanks of feedback, I change, now it's ''1950 - Charles meets Raven''
Cool, I just like to say 1951 though because if he only turned 12 in september of 1950 and given Logan's description of how his powers developed in dofp it just seems more likely that he met mystique in the first half of 1951 when he had a better understanding of his powers

It's implied in the last stand that the reason they parted ways was because of their disagreement on how to handle Jean's power

Where are you getting these numbers from for Stryker's age? Seems way too old. I prefer to think of original Stryker and prequel Stryker as 2 different variants. (I know a lot of people don't but it really helps explain the differences in their appearance). Original Stryker was born in 1938 and prequel Stryker was born in 1946
