DC Extended Universe / DC Universe - Timeline

I already planned on blindly believing, but is there a source for it being part of the DCEU
Well, for one, James Gunn has already confirmed it's not part of the DCU due to Creature Commandos being the start of the canon. Secondly, Blue Beetle was developed to take place in the DCEU and always has been, so if you count that, there's it's development history.

James Gunn's statements:
"I mean, the first DCU character, for sure, is Blue Beetle, and the first full DCU movie is Superman."
Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year – a sort of aperitif to the DCU – & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It's a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it's okay to be confused on what's happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.
And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they've played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.

He's essentially saying that the character is in the DCU but not the film. Blue Beetle is not considered a DCU film and was made to be set in the DCEU.

This is not a spoiler because it's not answered in the movie and James Gunn revealed this mysterious detail before the movie was even out -

Any ideas of who the first metahuman(s) 300 years ago could be? Been reading comics for a long time and does. It does not directly correlate anyone I know of. Wondering if it's Martian Manhunter? Supergirl introduced idea he had been on Earth much longer than in comics. But... of course he is not human. I wonder if it's a magical or mystical character. That time period is not tied to any specific character or am I forgetting someone?

also could be one of the creature commandos

personally if we want to make this work i justify it like this: the movie starts in late 2022, around october/november with the opening montage ending in december; then "5 months later" the main events of the movie occur, then a few weeks pass before arthur addresses the surface world; this still places the movie a month before blue beetle and allows the "4 years" after the first movie to be a full four years after june of 2018

also could be one of the creature commandos
Have not watched whole series but that did occur to me based on knowledge of those characters origins outside of DC. Forgot that it specifically says "Gods and Monsters". That's probably more about recent historical records and knowledge. DC is full of characters from ancient cultures and long dead civilizations that the average person would not know or assume are myths and legends.

I think the first parts had weird pacing where it kind of felt like a TV show (I guess because it introduces a lot of things), but the rest of the movie had normal pacing IMO, and it was a good movie.

Selfish. What about this book?

also there's this book which I don't know anything about, but the sinopsis says it's a book to introduce young fans to Superman for the 2025 film, so I guess it's set between the prequel book and the film?

I guess the events of TSS and Peacemaker got pushed up a few years and happened a lot differently somehow.

Which is infuriatingly confusing....
The way I see it, in the DCEU, they are canon as presented in 2020-2021. In the DCU, they are non-canon and happen differently in 2022-2023.

The same way Krypton exploded in 1989 in the DCEU but 1995 in the DCU. Events in DC sometimes repeat throughout the multiverse, like Earth-9 and Earth-21.

Heck, statements suggest that Batman and Batman Returns happened 10 years earlier in the Flashpoint timeline, lol.

As of now:

The Suicide Squad (project Starfish retroactive canon) - 2022
Peacemaker S1 (Economos fighting aliens retroactive canon) - 2023
Creature Commandos - Late 2024
Superman - May 2025
Peacemaker S2 - June 2025

Still not sure how Rick Flag Sr. healed from all those injuries he got in CC in such a short amount of time but I guess he just has a fast metabolism. Unlike Economos...

That's not good enough, tbf.

It's already on there.

i agree with this take personally, except for the dcu i place tss in 2021, based on gunn saying it takes place the year it came out, and peacemaker in early 2022; also im personally going to leave creature commandos in fall 2023 for now, that fits the "about 2 years" ago line referring to flag jrs death and
is still "months" away from superman, plus it leaves more time for flag srs wounds to heal by may 2025

Feel like TSS' placement depends on the Bloodsport backstory with him shooting Superman, with DCU Superman being confirmed to have only debuted 3 years before May 2025. TSS as a whole isn't canon so you could ignore that part entirely until Bloodsport ever gets mentioned again, or stretch the "3 years ago" quote so August 2021 can still fit, but something to consider.
