Well, for one, James Gunn has already confirmed it's not part of the DCU due to Creature Commandos being the start of the canon. Secondly, Blue Beetle was developed to take place in the DCEU and always has been, so if you count that, there's it's development history.I already planned on blindly believing, but is there a source for it being part of the DCEU
James Gunn's statements:
"I mean, the first DCU character, for sure, is Blue Beetle, and the first full DCU movie is Superman."
Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year – a sort of aperitif to the DCU – & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It's a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it's okay to be confused on what's happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.
And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they've played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.
He's essentially saying that the character is in the DCU but not the film. Blue Beetle is not considered a DCU film and was made to be set in the DCEU.
