Battle Of The Comic Book Writers

:? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? that was the most confusing fake post i have ever seen, and Jenkins incredible hulk run was quite excellent, so i voted for him. You guys know he also wrote the new hulk video game?

Do you guys know I once had sex with the Hulk? Then Jenkins adapted it to a comic? I hear that's what the new Hulk game is about! Hehe!

Na, just kidding Lithium. You rock.

Grant Morrison has a better batting average than Warren Ellis, and even Morisson's tendency to flip the bird at the reader in his endings seems to be a lot less mean-spirited than Ellis.

So technically, I find that Morrison is the better writer even though I'd probably vote Ellis from a preferential standpoint. Simply put: Grant is more talented, but I am biased in favor of Warren.

Frank Miller vs Robert Kirkman
Mike Mignola vs Brian K. Vaughan

Why did they have to go and put these guys against each other? They're pretty much my four fav writers at the moment and it's a crime that two of them won't get to the final eight. (Btw, between these I voted for Kirkman & Vaughan)

Masamune Shirow
Chris Claremont
Mark Millar
Larry Hama
Frank Miller
JMS
Mike Mignola
Kurt Busiek
Ed Brubaker
Grant Morisson
Neil Gaiman
Greg Pak
Alan Moore
Mark Waid
Joss Whedon
Garth Ennis

Thats probably how I'd swing. Some of these were no-contests and some of them were the lesser of two evils. A few were hard as hell, particularly Mignola vs Vaughn. Hmmm, I wonder who'll wind up coming out on top? I'd personally place my money on Moore but he's got stiff competition, particularly from Morisson.

Johns over Gaiman
*throws up a little in mouth*

Sorry, but Gaiman's the shnizzledizzle (I hope he atleast makes it to the top 4) and Johns has lost a lot of my respect after his dreadfully dull first arc on Green Lantern.

I've never read anything by Gaiman i dont think.

Oh, then you should go get Sandman right now. Its truly awesome.

but....but......its DC
I believe it pretty self contained. If I remember correctly, only a few characters who aren't crazy powerful god like beings appear in the book (Dr. Destiny, Martian Manhunter?).

You'd be surprised how much truly excellent stuff is published by DC, or at least under a title DC owns. For some reason, they tend to draw in alot of talented people. I wondered at the reason, and a friend of gave me an interesting reason. Frank Miller said, "When you write Marvel, your getting to write very tall tales. When you get to write DC though, your writing mythology." Eh, I don't agree with it, but its a cool quote nonetheless.

Masamune Shirow (don't know the guy, but i want bendis beaten soon)
Todd McFarlane (i fliped a coin)
Mark Millar (ultimates baby 8) )
John Byrne (never read anything the other guy has written)
Frank Miller (do i have to explain?)
JMS (supreme power and babylon 5, thats enough to get my vote)
BKV (he's from the elite 4 of comic book writters i have)
Paul Jenkins (i loved the sentry)
Jeff Smith (bone is hilarous!)
Warren Ellis (fliped a coin, this one was hard)
Neil Gaiman (Neil Gaiman? Neil Gaiman? Neil Gaiman ****ers!!!)
Greg Rucka (just read his omac work, and i thing it was pretty good)
Alan Moore (if he doesn't make it to the final i'm going to be pissed)
Mark Waid (kingdom come was my first dc book)
Joss Whedon (never got buffy, but astonishing x men rules da house)
Bill Willingham (my nick says everything, although this one was the hardest so far, and i think Ennis is going to beat the crap out of him  )

Except for Sandman, his brothers and the other gods?

And the winners of Round 2 are bolded
Brian Michael Bendis vs Masamune Shirow
Todd McFarlane vs Chris Claremont
Mark Millar vs Peter David
Larry Hama vs John Byrne
Frank Miller vs Robert Kirkman
Brian Azzarello vs JMS
Mike Mignola vs BKV
Paul Jenkins vs Kurt Busiek
Ed Brubaker vs Jeff Smith
Grant Morisson vs Warren Ellis
Geoff Johns vs Neil Gaiman
Greg Pak vs Greg Rucka
Alan Moore vs Chuck Dixon
Mark Waid vs Judd Winick
Joss Whedon vs Jeph Loeb
Bill Willingham vs Garth Ennis

Here's Round 3 The Swank Sixteen.

Brian Michael Bendis vs Chris Claremont
Mark Millar vs Larry Hama
Frank Miller vs JMS
BKV vs Kurt Busiek
Ed Brubaker vs Grant Morrison
Neil Gailman vs Greg Rucka
Alan Moore vs Mark Waid
Joss Whedon vs Garth Ennis

plus a link to the voting...Swank Sixteen

Here's my picks...

Brian Michael Bendis
Mark Millar
Frank Miller
BKV
Grant Morrison
Neil Gailman
Alan Moore
Garth Ennis

and for future guessing I think it will be Bendis vs Millar in the finals of the Scribes, Miller vs Busiek in the Scripters, Morrison vs Gaiman in the Dramalists, and Moore vs Ennis in Wordsmiths.

Then it will be Millar vs Millar and Moore vs Morrison. Then Miller vs Moore. And then I'm not sure who would win.

Brian Michael Bendis
Mark Millar
Frank Miller
BKV
Grant Morrison
Neil Gailman
Alan Moore
Garth Ennis

I'm so pissed that Ellis didn't mkae it into this round. DAMN YOU MORRISON!

Brian Michael Bendis
Mark Millar
JMS
Kurt Busiek (sorry, but Busieks amazing run on Avengers v3 beats any UXM issue)
Grant Morrison (Havent read anything of either, but Morrison seems more popular)
Neil Gailman vs Greg Rucka??? (Never heard of either)
Mark Waid (Dunno Moore)
Joss Whedon

Brian Michael Bendis (gah, this sickens me. Still, I'd rather read Bendis than Claremont)

Mark Millar (I think this is pretty self explanatory)

Frank Miller (I love Frank Miller)

Kurt Busiek (detest me if you will, but I really dig alot of Busieks old stuff)

Grant Morrison (not even a contest, Morrison is one of the true greats)

Neil Gailman (this fight was just sad)

Alan Moore (the term curb stomp jumps to mind in regards to the fight)

Garth Ennis (Anyone who can write a character as bad-*** cool as Cassidy has my vote)

How I predict the final rounds going

Quarter finals

Millar Beats Bendis

Miller Beats Busiek

Morrison Beats Gaiman

Moore Beats Waid

Semi-Finals

Miller Beats Millar

Moore Beats Morrison

Finals

Moore Beats Miller

Champion

Alan Moore

Okay Nur, we need to lock you in a room with Sandman, Animal Man, Whiteout, Good Omens, American Gods, Keeper.... I can keep going, but god have you not read alot of great stuff.

I can understand him not knowing Gaiman, not being familiar with Morrison is the more puzzling question. The REAL mindfrag is his not knowing Moore. Its like being a playfan and having never heard of Shakespeare (popularity, not quality-wise).
