This is a timeline of the Evil Dead Cinematic Universe, including the 5 Evil Dead films, the Ash vs Evil Dead television series, the Knowby Recordings from Evil Dead: The Game, the Within the Woods short film and the soft-canon tie-in videos.

Timeline Reasoning
Within the Woods is a prototype of The Evil Dead. The spirit in this short film is known as Tinga, which is one of the names the Kandarian Demon takes in Evil Dead: The Game. It has no indication of its timeline. It is placed in its year of release.

KISS/Army of Darkness is a prequel comic that seemingly creates the timeline of the films due to the fact it's one of the only comics that actually acknowledges the 1980s setting of the films. The way I understand it is that there's a previous timeline in which a version of Ash fought in the 1300s and was written about by the Wise Man, which leads into the KISS band being sent back in time in 1979, which prevents Ash and Linda from staying in the cabin in 1981 due to them not having as strong of a relationship without attending the KISS concert, then Ash loses his hand in 1981 because the timeline is trying to ensure the prophecy. Ash is sent back in time to the 1300s, then sent forward in time to 1979. Strangely, the Necronomicon is already in the cabin in 1979, but I guess it might have disappeared along with the 1979 timeline KISS and Ash. The end of the story is taken to be the main timeline, where Ash will go to Knowby cabin in 1982.

Evil Dead: The Game's audio recordings place themselves in 1982. It explains the events leading to the first movie after Knowby finds and reads from the Necronomicon.

The Evil Dead is set on October 1982 due to references in Ash vs Evil Dead and Evil Dead: The Game.

Evil Dead 2 is set the following day after the previous film. Ed Getley hasn't spoken to Raymond Knowby for a week. Ash vs Evil Dead places Ash losing his hand on October 9th.

Army of Darkness: Director's Cut picks up immediately after Evil Dead 2, with Ash in the year 1300. Bruce Campbell said that if Army of Darkness had stuck with its original ending, "it would have begun where Ash vs Evil Dead ended." This implies that Ash was stuck in the same future in the Director's Cut that he was in Ash vs Evil Dead. Additionally, Army of Darkness: Forever is a sequel to the Director's Cut that ties into the theatrical ending.


Evil Dead: Extended Cut has no indication of its timeline. It is placed based on it releasing 2 years prior to Ash vs Evil Dead. Ash's car has been rusting outside of the cabin for some time. The assumption is that the movie takes place before Ash vs Evil Dead starts based on Ash's appearance. Vivian Johnson's actress appears in the film, which could be the same character. However, this is unofficial.

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 1 is set 30 years after the original trilogy. Ash states that he lost his hand "thirty years to this day", placing the first season in 2012. Kelly's phone has a Monday 10th date. The Monday is taken as inaccurate. A small continuity error is that Kelly has an iPhone 6, which released in 2014.

Ash vs Evil Dead: Ash's Killer Crib takes place following S1. Pablo hasn't fixed damage done to Ash's trailer dealt during the first season yet.

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 is set a year after the first season. In 2x03, girls say off-screen "trick or treat", and Chet responds "Halloween? No you didn't", placing the season in October. Supporting the trilogy's placement in 1982, Ash creates an alternate timeline in the past shortly prior to when he found the cabin in the first film.

The Shemps Beer shorts are in-universe advertisements promoting the fictional beer. Based on Ash's popularity in S3, it makes sense that he was involved in creating these adverts with fictionalised settings from S2.

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3, Brandy says that she and Rachel will graduate in four months, and Episode 7 features a midwinter dance, meaning this is around January-February. Ruby says it's been roughly two years since the end of S2, meaning this is around January-February 2016, 2.25 years since October 2013. Ash also states he's in his "50s," meaning this is no later than April 2017 (a prop for the show indicates that he was born on April 8, 1957).

Ash4President is based around the 2016 Presidental Election. The timeline revolves around the twitter account. Ash likely returned to present day at some point.

Who's Your Daddy must take place following S3, since Ash is aware he has a daughter.

Evil Dead Rise occurs around Labor Day. At the end of the film, Jessica states that it is going to be "a great weekend" at the cabin, placing the film on the Friday and Saturday preceeding Labor Day. There is an iPhone without a button, which was introduced in the late 2010s. There are no references to the Ash vs Evil Dead finale, which is taken as an inconsistency. Lee Cronin stares it's 10 years after the last film and occurs in present day.

I don't really know whether I should include the beginning and end of Evil Dead 2 as alternate timelines. Ash somehow remembers both the first movie and the second movie's prologue. Army of Darkness is confirmed canon but Ash vs Evil Dead has flashbacks to the non-canon Evil Dead 2 ending. I think it could be an alternate timeline.

I'm keeping it clean and using the official explanation that the prologue of Evil Dead 2 is just a non-canon recap and the ending of the film is retconed by Army of Darkness for now.

Time travel is weird in this franchise for sure. It appears to be a closed loop but then Ash vs Evil Dead changes the timeline in 1982 but they return to the present and everything appears to be the same but the cabin is still gone. Best I can say is that when they returned to the present, they brought the destroyed cabin from the alternate timeline with them. :p
 
Different timeline where the movies took place in the 2000s and the TV show didn't happen. I don't think any of them fit unfortunately.
 
That's only every Dynamite comic ever made, lol. Earth-818793 is huge.
 
Not to mention the crossovers with Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Child's Play and Hatchet, with references to other killers as well. That alone implies that versions of those film series are also canon to Earth-818793.
 
Why there is an Army of Darkness in 1982 and another one before the first the Evil Dead?
 
Has the Evil Dead game any plot apart from the recordings or is it like the Friday the 13th game?

Like Friday the 13th: The Game unfortunately. There are "missions" that unlock recordings that basically explain how these different characters from the timeline are meeting, but those missions themselves aren't canon and the actual gameplay doesn't really have any definitive story to place.
 
According to tv tropes there are 3 licensed games in the PS2 era that have an original plot, the first 2 follow after Army of Darkness and the 3rd one happens in a parallel universe where Ash is not sucked into the time portal at the end of Evil Dead 2:
  • Evil Dead: Hail to the King (released in 2000)
  • Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick (released in 2003)
  • Evil Dead: Regeneration (released in 2005)
 
There might be a few standalone comics that fit into the timeline. The KISS, Darkman and Bubba Ho-Tep crossovers don't try to retcon the original films into present day, so they might fit - though I suspect the latter two would be better on a Darkman and Bubba Ho-Tep timeline instead seeing as they actually tie into those continuities more.

Seems a little strange to include any comics at this point, considering basically every comic counts the trilogy and nothing else a lot of the time.

When i saw the trailer to evil dead there was a part that i really loved and was really hoping to see but when i watched the movie it wasn’t even in the movie. I guess it was the extended movie trailer i watched
 
The Extended Cut released in 2018. Some scenes from the trailer were included in this version.
 
Should also note that there is a Director's Cut of Army of Darkness. Unfortunately it doesn't really lead into Ash vs Evil Dead well and the theatrical version is better canon-wize, unless of course the future scene is a dream like one of the international/television releases implied or Ash had an adventure in the future prior to returning to 1982.
