^^

I'm going to say what all the cool kids have said. Like Ultimates 2 and Daredevil, for instance. And .hack//Legend of the Twilight. o.o

Although I didn't really like Morrison's New X-Men.

When I was a kid (in the 70's), I LOVED Amazing Spider-man. Another title (was it Marvel Tales) was concurrently re-printing older ASM issues, so I was getting all the stories. I still have an issue in the 20's, and a few in the 40's. I have ASM#50, and a bunch up to, and including a mint #100 (which I paid $3 for)

I enjoyed USM when it first came out, but my interest has dwindled - I like to blame Bendis, but he's the same Bendis that wrote the first 30 issues which I liked. I think I'm just realizing that the dynamic of Spider-man really isn't for a 36-year old.

I'm enjoying UFF, which has brought me (at least in Millar's run) the same sense of wonder as the ASM comics of my youth.

...but the comic I'm REALLY enjoying now - I mean the one that has put the awe back in comics for me, and re-drawn me to the medium is Ultimates. How can you read Ultimates #5, and not be genuinely awe-struck? This really is the comic for adults who want to like comics in the way they liked them as kids. Not to read to much into it, but its a great balance between commentary, and action - between story and art. Its too bad that the run will end next issue.

The only comic I'm reading from DC right now is 'Justice'. I'm enjoying the slightly modern spin on the 'Legion of Doom'. Great art and an 'epic'-yet simple story.

I haven't read a lot of Indy comics, but I've enjoyed what I've read from Dark Horse (Hellboy and Conan), and my limited exposure to 'Invincible' and 'Walking Dead'

But for anyone interested enough to scroll to the bottom, but not interested enough to read my long-winded nonsense:

1. Ultimates (1 and 2)
2. Ultimate Fantastic Four
3. Justice

(also, I still have high hopes for Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk... hey, I'm a Red Sox fan - I've waited longer!)

I suppose I'll update my list:

Ultimates, Fables and Preacher are probably my top three. I could put together a list of the other seven, but those are the main three that stick out in my mind.

I don't have them in any particular order, but Kingdom Come is my favourite comic book story ever.

Planetary (Ellis/Cassaday) - A brilliant look into the history of the famous characters of stories, and how they all tie together into one magnificent comic.

The Authority (Ellis/Millar/Brubaker/Hitch/Quitely/Nguyen/Various) - A realistic look at how superheroes would act in a real world situation. Plus, everyone is so badass.

Fables (Willingham/Buckingham/Various) - A beautiful comic about the fairy tales, fables and nursery rhyme characters of our childhood.

Y The Last Man (Vaughan/Guerra/Various) - A realistic view at the world where there is only one man left, and w
hat he must do to save the world.

Runaways (Vaughan/Alphona/Various) - A fun comic about children whose parents are really supervillains.

Daredevil (Bendis/Brubaker/Maleev/Lark/Various) - A dark comic about a superhero's life presented in pulpy goodness.

Unless Seven Soldiers finishes horribly, it will be put on the favourite series ever list. I would have added X-Men, as New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, and Brubaker's Uncanny X-Men and Carey's X-Men have made the X-Men fun again, but it's not just one series. Once Ex Machina gets closer to finishing, I foresee it on the list as well.

These are all good comics. Go read them.

EDIT: Forgot goddamn Ultimates!

This is my new master list.

10. Ultimates 1 & 2 Despite the delays, still the best book to come of the Ultimate inprint
9. Seven Soliders Not as highly ranked as many of you would put it, but an EXCELLENT book.
8. Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. The funniest comic ever written. Ever.
7. Benis/Brubaker's Daredevil Two of the best DD runs since Frank Miller and they're back to back. Bendis' was probably better...in fact, it was probably my favorite ongoing ever when he was writing it. It's too bad he hasn't pulled out any great stories since he left the title.
6.Desolation Jones I don't even know why this book makes me so happy. Maybe it's the Hitler Porn? Maybe it's Ellis' fantastic writing. Whatever it is, the delays between issues make me angry. Very, very angry.
5. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Possibly the greatest Batman story ever told.
4.Kingdom Come This one is worth it for Alex Ross' art alone. A truely stellar story, that would
3. Preacher Garth Ennis is my favorite writer. Preacher would easily be my favorite comic ever if it weren't for the sheer amazingness of the above two.
2. V for Vendetta If you need me to explain this to you then you're an idiot.
1. Watchmen In my oppinion, one of the greatest literary works of all time, and easily a contender for the best in the graphic medium. Every comic fan should read this.

Honorable mentions: Hellbalzer, The Authority, Batman: Year one, Planetary, Fables, Ennis' Punisher, Animal Man, Morrison's New X-men.

Promethea is definitely still my favorite.

I'll think about doing a full list tomorrow.
