Question is this really James Bond 22?

I mean I thought casino royale was a reboot so to speak in the same way begins was for Batman. The dark knight is Batman 2 in this series not batman 6 or 7 right? So shouldn't this be James Bond 2 in the franchise or am I wrong?

Because it still doesn't sound like a Fleming bond title. He could've written a Bond story called Laser Star Moon Explosion.... it would still be a really off-putting title for a mainstream Bond movie.

Half the general public doesn't know it's a real story either.

I say it's a much worse title than "Casino Royale"(which was a good one) because not only is it not catchy or descriptive, it's actively awkward to say.

I really can't tell what they were thinking on this one. The first thing you think of is paperback sci-fi opera.:(

I think QUANTUM OF SOLACE is a great name. Would work for Indy too.

Well originally they said that they were going to use the title of a Flemyng Bond book that had never been used for a movie before - which left Quantum of Solace, Riscio, The Property of a Lady, and The Hildebrand Rarity. I would have preferred Riscio, because it's short.

Well I think they might as well call it Bond 22, because none of the titles are numbers, so it doesn't matter, this is just the 22nd bond movie made.

True , just a lot of movie sites called it james bond 22 I was confused if I had got the the whole "casino royale was a reboot" thing wrong and casino royale was actually a sequel.

I still think they should have completely rebooted the series and called this one From Russia With Love.

Calling it Bond 2 would have been confusing. It's the 22nd Bond movie so that's why they called it Bond 22. There wasn't really a continuity between the movies after Roger Moore anyways. But, Casino Royale is considered a reboot.

Ah cool , thanks. I thought it would have been "Casino Royale 2" or "Casino Royale sequel" like they called Dark night "Batman begins 2" not "Batman 6" if that makes sense. But thanks I thought it was a reboot. I was just getting confused :lol:

When I first saw this thread, the "Quantum of Solace" bit made me think of Indy for about a half a second.

ANSWER: English film franchises don't take continuity as seriously as American ones do and last longer as a result.

Seriously, there's no way that the Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan are all in the same continuity. It just doesn't make any sense.

I look at it like this: every time a new Bond actor stars in a Bond movie, the franchise is revamped. Bond finds himself in similar missions and situations (such as meeting Blofeld and having his wife killed), but overall, because of the different political climate, it's a different Bond for a different world. Watch 'Moonraker' or 'Diamonds are Forever' and then watch the Dalton films. That's not the same character.

Daniel Craig and Casino Royale were just unlucky because they were the first Bond film to be a blatant revamp of the series, because of the nature of the story and the style of the film (no gadgets, no Moneypenny, real world story).
