INFORMATION
Saw: The Video Game is a third-person perspective, survival horror game based on the Saw film franchise, which has grossed more than $665 million worldwide and sold more than 28 million DVDs. The game features many of the deadly mechanical traps seen in the film, as well as terrifying new ones. Players will pit their wits against Jigsaw as they navigate his world in an attempt to evade and escape his gruesome traps, while also struggling against his minions in brutal combat by using weapons found within the environment.

The game is based on a treatment from Zombie Studios and the creators of the Saw franchise, Leigh Whannell and James Wan.

The timeline for the game takes place between the the first two films, giving the game its own story, yet fitting within the narratives of the movies.

PLOT
The story centers on David Tapp, whom awakens in a decrepit, abandoned asylum. He has been captured by his longtime nemesis, Jigsaw. Obsessed with catching Jigsaw, David's mission has consumed him and ruined his family, resulting in divorce, mental imbalance, and abandonment. Worse yet, this frantic hunt destroyed David's career while he watched his long-time friend and partner, Detective Steven Sing, get killed by one of Jigsaw's traps. Now Jigsaw has the upper hand and has captured David. He must play a deadly game—the likes of which he has been investigating for years—to escape, and in order to do so, he must survive the lethal traps and puzzles that Jigsaw has put in place for him and others. But each victim has a dark connection to David. Will he save them? Can he survive his obsession to find the Jigsaw killer?

FEATURES
Traps of Lethal Cunning – Jigsaw has laid out a gauntlet of torturous traps for a handful of innocents. Only you stand between them and the most brutal death imaginable. Think quickly and act! The clock is ticking.

Choices of Conscience – The player is forced to make difficult moral choices. Who lives and who dies in the game is determined by the player's choices.

Mysteries Revealed – Unanswered questions from the films are finally laid to rest. Gamers will discover the origin of Jigsaw and why he devoted his life to games, while also finding out what happened to the characters from the first Saw movie.

An Ecology of Terror – The asylum in which Jigsaw has trapped you is abandoned, but it is far from empty. It is a living world of horror populated by Jigsaw's minions and the insane souls they torture… and they have no intention of letting you leave.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Why?

It looks like it could be a lot of fun, despite the franchise itself not seeming like a likely source to turn into a video game, from what I've read it seems like the developers are using the Saw storyline in interesting ways in terms of gameplay elements. The graphics look nice, though the jury's still out on the gameplay (combat, glitches, etc).

Granted, most spin-off games suck, but lets not take the usual knee-jerk reaction and assume it will suck (especially when what little has been shown seems to look pretty good). After all, the new Wolverine game based on the movie is hella fun (at least the 360/PS3 versions).

Its wrong because the saw movies are nothing more then torture porn and I have feeling the game will just be interactive torture porn.

Thats simply an oversimplification.

The first film was actually quite interesting...the sequels have all been awful caricatures of the first, granted, but the first was suspenseful, scary, and out of the box (at least when it was released).

and I have feeling the game will just be interactive torture porn.

As I said, the Wolverine game was surprisingly good, this could be too. I don't think classifying the movies or game as "interactive torture porn" is fair given the fact you're trying to escape the torture, not willingly or actively participate in it. Seems like a pretty common plot element: something bad will happen to you, so escape it. Does this mean Indiana Jones running from the giant boulder at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark could be classified as "potential torture porn"?

And don't forget that every politician that's up for re-election and every bleeding heart liberal . Will want to jump on the "Violent Video Games = Murderer" bandwagon again and try to get this banned and probably a few other games for good measure.

Actually, its usually the Christian Conservative Republicans who try to get video games banned, etc, NOT "bleeding-heart liberals".

See Jack Thompson.

Its a pretty safe bet that if you're trying to control what other people can or can't do, you're a douchebag. Jack Thompson proves that in spades everytime he opens his mouth or files an injunction.

I doubt this will make a big enough blip for them to bother. And even if it did.... what's your point?

That it's stupid to think a video game can make you a murderer and this will be something they'd jump on right away since, everyone know the movies are so gorey. So they'll just assume this will be a gorey, gorey game and that they need to save us all. And that I'm just tired of the utter, utter ignorance people like to display...

...

Also there's a few games I want to get and don't want anything (Such as this) delaying them.

If they had a problem with Manhunt 2, they'll most likely have a problem with this one. And I dunno if you guys like the Chronicles of Riddick series, but I loved Escape From Butcher Bay and Assault On Dark Athena. And the only reason I liked 'em was 'cause they weren't adaptations of the films, they were expansions to the storyline. Which is why I'm definitely gettin' this game when it's released.

I won't mind if there's a few minor problems with graphics or gameplay or somethin', 'cause I have a good imagination, I can work with it (unless it's like Lost: Via Domus, I think they could've done a better job with that). It's s'posed to be like Silent Hill, so that has me interested as well, even though the only game in the series I ever played was Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams.

But, in the end, I hope they stop the film series at VI and, if they want, continue the storyline through games or even comic books. But I've already read that, if the fanbase is good enough, they will continue the series. Even Tobin Bell (who portrays John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw) has stated that there may be a seventh and eighth film.

So are these the characters confirmed to appear? Jigsaw and Tapp were already confirmed, but Young and Gordon are new. Hopefully if Gordon does appear, it'll put to rest all the annoying 12 year olds hoping Gordon will appear in the next Saw sequel.

Yes. But the only confirmed voice actor is Tobin Bell reprising his role as John Kramer. David will not be voiced by Danny Glover and it is highly unlikely that Cary Elwes will reprise his role as Lawrence. It has not been said if Shawnee Smith will voice Amanda, but I don't see why she wouldn't.

As for what happened to Lawrence after the end of Saw, the answers will be in the game. I think that's mainly why they're making this game, to answer some unanswered questions and reveal more of John's past. Maybe they'll even explain why you see Obi walking in the park during John's memory flashback in Saw III.

In other news, Konami plans to make Saw: The Video Game its next big survival horror franchise, although no plans for a sequel have been discussed. I hope they make it a franchise.

Based on how much the movie series has been franchised, I'd say yes, its a good bet they'll attempt to milk multiple sequels from this game. The odds of that happening are entirely dependant on how good a game it turns out to be.

We'll see.

Saw: The Video Game controversy

Saw has been the subject of much controversy, even prior to the game's release. Critics have even regaled the game into the widely hated "torture porn" genre. The game's violence and visual intensity received many allegations that the main goal of Saw is to mutilate characters simply for the sake of doing so. It was compared to games such as Grand Theft Auto IV, Madworld, and Manhunt, but contrasted for the claim that the aformentioned games violence served a some-what humorous purpose or a moral reprieve. William Usher of Cinemablend wrote that Saw pushed the controversial boundaries and called it a "tutorial for sadists to get pleasure from." Usher also claimed that the lack of a moral message or choices make it even more controversial. In response to these claims, Konami and previous publisher Brash had revealed that Saw does indeed contain choices like choosing what characters will live and die, ultimately resulting in a few possible endings depending on the player's decisions.

The game contains one scene that allows players to cut open bodies and sift through their insides to retrieve a key. This area was particularly criticized by critics. It was stated that this scenario was "sick" and "tasteless." In defense, many forum users have replied that the action does have a purpose and is not as bad in gore as other games such as Gears of War. As of September, Konami has already had indefinite BBFC and ESRB ratings, so no plans for censoring or editing have been made.
